There is one indisputable fact - our support is higher at times of relative success, and is directly related to our league position.

No human being on this earth will subsequently become a Charlton Athletic fan off the back of this. Sure, thousands of children will tune into his stream, they will send him messages and try and get him to say something silly like "Mike Hunt" or "Hugh Jass", he'll do it and pretend to be annoyed, and that mishap will be clipped up and shared on social media, which is essentially his whole business model.
It lowers the club's profile, clamoring for the attention of a target audience that will never be interested in watching football that isn't the "Big 6" or Champions League. I've already had about 10 messages from non-Charlton supporting mates to take the piss.
This marketing ploy doesn't bother me, it just reeks of Charlie Methven changing the walk-out music at Sunderland to EDM and expecting a response on the pitch.8 -

Some people will always be attracted to miracle options that don't require them to do any work. I think the point that times have moved on from ads in the Mercury is fair, but the fundamentals don't change. There has to be a narrative, which was especially powerful in the 1990s, and the club doesn't really have one at present.
This is a bit like advertising second tier games in a national newspaper would have been then. Very badly targeted. But I doubt if it matters.2 -

I don't really see the problem. If you're at the game you won't notice it. Unless he's on the pitch at some point, which I guess he might be, but who cares? Kids consume football in such different ways to us old fuckers. It's all about YouTube shorts and diaries like SEDons and Baiteze. Football chat like Filthy Fellas and the like. It's incredibly popular, especially in my house with my 18yr old and 9yr old boys. I'm not sure MG is cool enough for the kids, but he's a bit of a trailblazer in this stuff and has a lot of subscribers of various platforms. If you're not interested just ignore it.8

I don't understand the complaining from some, as someone suggested unless you actively wish to take part it won't affect you in the slightest. It all has a hint of "old man yells at clouds", as for those saying it will never work probably not but it might, kids watch this type of stuff and he has a large following.
Unless Goldbridge breaks in to your house and forces you to watch him watch a football match, I really don't see why anyone cares. Also I'm not sure if the 30/40/50 plus year olds on this forum (and im one I admit it), generally are in any position to say what appeals to youngsters nowdays.5 -

To supplement that, how do you boost the number of first time attendees at games to compliment the (hopefully) winning team? Through trial and error with schemes and stunts for a modern audience that may or may not work.2 -

The cringe factor and piss taking will be gone the day after the event - I don’t see this lowering the club’s profile in the short term, and definitely not at all in the long term.
In addition, I disagree with the notion that the audience he brings will never be interested in football outside the Top 6. For a majority of his million followers that may be true, but they’re not a hive mind and some will realise that they love it down here.I’m almost certain that some kids WILL become long term Charlton fans off the back of this, and I think that’s worth the short term cringe / the odd text off a mate trying to take the piss.4 -

I can at least understand the thought behind this idea - those others were either all about personal vanity (fan sofa, A2V) or god knows what was going through Katrien’s brain for the other example. Whatever they were, they were all far from any intent of trying to generate new interest in Charlton Athletic.1 -
