Thats not necessarily good news, Amazon will want to wring every pound note of of the Bond franchise as possible. At least the Broccoli family protected Bond from spin offs and suchlike
I think the Craig Bonds were great but they were criticised. There have been so many Bond films there is no point making them exactly the same. You have to keep the spirit but innovate which is what the Craig films did for me.
Amazon haven't had anything like James Bond in their stable before. It’s a huge thing. I don’t think they’ll mess with it to the point of spoiling it. They’d be bonkers to. Plenty of people involved in Craig’s recent stuff they could get on board to transition it smoothly. Whoever they choose for Bond will be controversial to some extent so that doesn’t really bother me. There’s still of course how they deal with Bonds death and how they reboot. It does though provide massive opportunities.
The Broccolis and Wilson have had such a tight control over Bond I think it's the only reason the franchise hasn't been overkilled and still feels classy and like an event when a movie finally comes along.
The entire franchise has seen 25 movies released in 63 years. That's one movie every 2.5 years on average (even if they did throw loads out in the early years). The MCU, by contrast, has had 35 movies and 12 TV series in less than 20 years.
I don't know if Amazon are going to abuse it to the degree Disney have with Marvel, but I find it very hard to believe they will treat it with the same level of respect that the previous owners did. If we start seeing spin-offs and expanded universes then the franchise will lose it's aura.
