Difficult to know how much of the defeat was down to Humbert playing well and how much to Jack being knackered after playing virtually a full week’s tennis after a long time outPrincessFiona said:
When I was watching his semi yesterday, (bizarrely?) I wasn't sure I wanted him to win - I am hoping he has a chance against Fritz but 1 more match at Eastbourne might not be a good thing.blackpool72 said:
It's a big if I know, but if Draper somehow can beat Fritz I can see him reaching the second week easy.PrincessFiona said:

Completely agree. I was impressed with Humbert thoughLenGlover said:

Emma out of Wimbledon with a stress fracture.0
-
Yes. I'd not long read she was going to play. But clearly no one should play with a stress fracture.killerandflash said:Emma out of Wimbledon with a stress fracture.
No doubt there will be a lot of nasty, ignorant trolling. I haven't seen Draper get the same for his long lay off. But then again although he's had injury problems, he isn't nearly as susceptible as her. TBH she does well to be world 32 (for now as will change after Wimbledon) with all her absences, which many trolls don't seem/want to acknowledge - could Katie Boulter overtake her and become GB no.1 again after a tough year for her? What's happening with Sonay Kartal?0 -

So disappointing for her - seems very injury prone. Was due a good Wimbledon.PrincessFiona said:

Kartal still recovering from a back injury.1 -
Six of the eight remaining British women in action today. No easy games even though they are mainly facing unseeded players.0

A wildcard is worth £80,000. A massive payday for lower ranked players - the Brits have been given a generous share. I hope they make the most of them.MrOneLung said:hoof_it_up_to_benty said:21 Brits line up in the first round of the singles - nine women and twelve men. A decent payday for some of the wildcards.

Raducanu certainly doesn't need it but “Players who withdraw on-site become eligible to receive 50% of the first-round prize money only if they have competed in one tournament in the twenty-one (21) days before the commencement of the main draw for the Grand Slam Tournament.” She fulfills that criteria so will receive £40,000.hoof_it_up_to_benty said:

Sad to heat that Raducanu has had to withdraw because of a stress fracture.
My depressing words from 3 years ago that Emma will decide to retire at 25 because of injuries and that she just can't compete at the business end of grand slams will be too much for a person who is financially secure and does have that USA slam to her name even if that was a freak year in that she played Fernandez in the final and the favourites all beat each other.
Still a fantastic achievement winning so many matches being a qualifier but she has never stayed fit enough for long enough to even look like a quarter finalist in a slam.

Completely agree, have said the same, to be a true great she needed to be hoovering up titles by now, in preparation for a serious challenge for the Grand Slams, it hasn't happened due to injuries and that pattern seems set now.soapboxsam said:Sad to heat that Raducanu has had to withdraw because of a stress fracture.

Max Basing beaten by fellow qualifier Shintaro Mochizuki.

In fact I have never said critising is trolling - they are different words with different meanings
So I don't understand why you have posted this0 -
She's not good enough to be a 'true great'. I don't the USO was a 'freak' thoughEugenesAxe said:

Not sure where she'd get to if she could remain injury/illness free for longer - maybe top 20 at best? She can't deal with the biggest hitters and has too many mental frailties, but I doubt we'll ever know
I assume Draper will get the £40k too then?0 -
yeah think so he's withdrawn during the tournament.I think if she had an injury free career she could have been top 10 comfortably, it's consistency that gets you there as much as anything, think the US Open was an indication of what was possible, don't feel necessarily that the injuries were bad luck or bad conditioning either could be her body just isn't rugged enough.0
-
Haven spoken to people who know a lot more than I do (including a Charlton fan at Wembley!), her initial injury problems resulting in various back to back ops were ramping up far too quickly after the USO, only a few months after she was only playing a few hours a week whilst doing her A levels. It should have been more gradual over a longer period. Tehre are also question marks over her father's role and influence. But she is clearly injury prone and there are the mental frailties too - but would they be less if the injuries were less???EugenesAxe said:yeah think so he's withdrawn during the tournament.I think if she had an injury free career she could have been top 10 comfortably, it's consistency that gets you there as much as anything, think the US Open was an indication of what was possible, don't feel necessarily that the injuries were bad luck or bad conditioning either could be her body just isn't rugged enough.
I'm not sure could sustain top 10, but maybe top 20 with the off foray into the top 10? Shame we'll never know0 -
I thought Andrew Castle wasn't working for the BBC at Wimbledon this year? I've just checked and there are a number of articles on it. But he's commentating on the Sinner match now.

There are lots of what ifs surrounding here career, was some questions wether she's a bit of a sick note too, again this could be her mental frailties, there were some sliding door moments I suppose you could say.PrincessFiona said:
