If you look at Aptor, it seems that sometimes Jones does not find these things out until the deal is done and dusted and they are on the pitch!

It might not be anything to do with budget maybe the players we want don’t want to join us ? You can’t force a player to join

If there are Premier League loans or purchases, it may not be feasible to bring them in till the last few days of the windows, whilst they finalise their squads.

Know next to nothing of him but going off of Pompey fans reviews it sounds a bit more to the meh side when they talk about his off days being proper off but its an attacking player option that we need.

Apter being mentioned as one of our wing options by Jones give me hope that he still has a future here, these two alternating will be a fun watch.

Especially this summer when most top clubs have half their squads still resting after the world cup so are using a lot of kids to play in friendlies.

I don’t know about this particular player.
However taken generally, not specific to one individual with an agenda, I think the view of opposition fans about a player who has played for them is valid.

He was actually born and raised in Ireland, though, unlike Connor Coventry, Josh Cullen, Harry Arter and tha other Irish players of that ilk. Moved to England when he was 14.

For most people accents are ‘fixed’ around the age of 13.
So it is no surprise that because he arrived in Great Britain around that age his accent became somewhat variable.
Curtis Fleming has a lovely accent. Yet he was born in Manchester.

I can tell Alli has been influenced by his time in the North west of England with some of his pronunciations but let's hope he can do his talking on the field as well as off it. 🤞🏻👏🏻

The only Charlton player that was consistently good and played wideish was Graham Stuart and he wasn't a winger.

I recall that Cliff Jones was very consistent ... it was a while back though and he was probably helped by 2,3,5.

Back in the days of Cliff Jones if you were a winger you used your pace to go on the outside and cross into the area where at Spurs, Bobby Smith would attack the ball with his head.
No defensive responsibility, or being double marked, just one slow full back to go past unlike today where most full backs or wing backs have pace.

Alf Ramsey picked 4 wingers in his squad and didn't use any of them once the KO stage was reached.
Alf used Young Alan Ball in a roaming role.

Steve Copell was one of the first 'wingers' to be adaptable with his play with more defensive play coming into the game by widemen.

You really can't compare the modern day 'Wingers' with the likes of Cliff Jones or Tom Finney.

Sichenje was brought forward from this summers budget to January. So should add that fee in if we're counting spend.

Appreciate the recency bias with comments from regarding his time at Luton and Pompey but just for balance my Exeter supporting mate says he’s very good, was mistreated at Luton.

Greatest respect to Exeter their a newly relegated L2. Care about the opinions of teams nearer our level much more.

That being said a 1M fee with 500k potential add ons considering how Tanto and Apter have turned out Alli has got a free hit would take some doing to be much worse

They finished 16th in league one when Alli was there. Wiki says 13 goals in 35 games through 23/24 and 24/25

Looks decent enough and shouldn't be ignored.

I followed Alli at Pompey and had mentioned in some other posts he would be a good pick up. So I am happy with this signing. Still need a midfield general though.

Absolutely. The only thing our current midfield create is soiled pants in our back line, hence they generally choose to miss them out completely and smash it to opponents keeper, time and time again (as seen against Wimbledon).

Possibly his final ball ?

I remember Lee Bowyer saying than about Jonathan Leko when he turned up on loan from Birmingham.
TBF to Leko who is a similar player to Alli, he did have moments of high skill in his 47 app and 7 goals in 2 loan spells but like so many wingers or wide players was quite erratic but could certainly have moments of fancy footwork.

Alli could play a cameo role to be a game changer coming off the bench.
As always, I want everyone to succeed who wears the CAFC shirt.

Any reason he didn't begin pre-season with Luton? No different from Karoy, Kanu, Apter doing so with us, I would have thought.
