Agree about the heat…that’s why we leave France at the beginning of July and before the thermostat gets turned up to full blast.bobmunro said:Solidgone said:Like others have said regarding longer stays it’s cheaper going out of season. In Spain, we know the owner of the apartment and get a very good deal.In France, we know the letting agency but it’s not cheap but we like the apartment and its location.
Yes, the figures I quoted were for March-May 'ish - much more expensive in July/August (but it's too bloody hot then anyway!)0 -
Has anyone been to Diani Beach Kenya. I was talking to a friend last night who recommended the place for R&R after 3 weeks travelling. As my tour ends in either Arusha or Nairobi. I was thinking of going to Mauritius but that’s quite a schlep from Nairobi/Arusha.0

I've used cozycozy.com a few times, they seem to consolidate most of the hotel booking sites as well as Vrbo and airbnbbobmunro said:PrincessFiona said:
Definitely self-catering - we stay at villas about 3 or 4 times a year with their own pool etc. But I'm looking at stopping working early next year, so we can stay longer on the villa holidays (not necessarily on the others which are at hotels and city breaks).superclive98 said:
Don't know if you are looking for hotels or just apartments, but we try to extend our summer by going to Spain for 7 to 8 weeks at a time in May/June and again from mid September to mid November and we always get good discounts on the apartments that we book.PrincessFiona said:
if you go for a month to the South of France and Spain, may I ask about accommodation as going for more than the usual 1 to 2 week trips? Do get a better rate as staying for a month? We're thinking of starting to do longer stays of 1 to 3 months including Spain and France (defintitely not in any school holidays)Solidgone said:Still early days for me with my travel plans but…
I tip toe into 2027 in the Canaries (going for Christmas and New Year).
Very early January I’m going to Rwanda, Uganda, Kenya and Tanzania - then thinking of heading over to Mauritius from Tanzania.
To escape the cold I’m thinking of touring Asia; Vietnam, Laos, Cambodia and Thailand or just Japan?

The whole of June is in the South of France
Summer in London.
The whole of October is in Spain. This might be useful. The first link lists hundreds and most of the properties link to one of the other two sites.Two/Three bed Villas with pool - anywhere from £3k/£4k upwards per month.0 -
Thanks. We get great deals, I was just wondering if you get better deals per week for 4 or more weeksbobmunro said:PrincessFiona said:

I’d be interested for hear any feedback on Albania after your travels. Are you touring around or a beach resorty type of holiday?captainbob said:Northern Albania from this Wednesday. Anyone been there?1 -

I haven't, but frankly anywhere that until relatively recently outlawed beards is worth visiting in my book.1 -
Mrs TT and me have just booked our ferry to ride our 50yr old bikes (xs650) to Norway and the Arctic Circle, late May to June for a month.
Hopefully we're all up for it, being a combined 230yrs.
We'll do the channel islands on our bikes later in the year.5 -
Touring around...Shkoder, Theth, Valbone. One day will be a seven hour walk in the mountains. I'll let you know how I get on.Solidgone said:

If you’re looking to escape the cold in January to early March, don’t go for Japan, that’s the coldest time of year there. Southeast Asia will be lovely that time of year, as there best ‘weather’ season is Nov-Feb.Solidgone said:Still early days for me with my travel plans but…

Mostly looking at trips within Thailand next year. Have visited around 30 provinces now, but there’s just over 70 in total, so plenty still to explore. If finances allow, we will visit Japan for 10 or so days to see friends and visit a few places not yet seen.0

A Tour of Sri Lanka in the spring for 15 nights. Includes a 1st class train trip, to keep Charlton relevant.
And the end of next summer is our 40th wedding anniversary so I would like to do something a bit special but thus far I haven't thought of anything. I would like friends to join us somewhere for a quiet celebration, may be a city break somewhere in Europe. Or me and my wife go somewhere nice by ourselves. Either way 2027 will be my penultimate year before retirement, (hopefully), so I'm determined to splash out a bit while I have a bit of earnings.0 -
I don’t know if anyone else is experiencing this but BA seems to be either cancelling flights or rescheduling the timings of the flights. I don’t mind the timings as the difference is only 20-30 minutes but one flight was cancelled and I had to rebook the following day. This has meant paying an extra night(s) for a hotel and my Heathrow Express ticket on another flight has meant its now null and void as it was a booked in advance to get the discount.
Somehow, I don’t think BA will be offering compensation.0 -

Almeria maybe (Aguadulce is nice), was in Malaga a couple of years ago in late November and it was around 70f on a couple of days. If not try the Canary Islands.MrOneLung said:got a chance to get 5/6 days away without the kids but have to go Saturday 26th March

I fly a lot with BA and find the same, anything booked 3-4 months in advance invariably changes, but usually sub 30 minutes. Call and ask, I find they are generally amenable but that may be the amount I spend with them!!Solidgone said:I don’t know if anyone else is experiencing this but BA seems to be either cancelling flights or rescheduling the timings of the flights. Had BA flights changed/cancelled at short notice recently and so have others I know. Got a text from them on Christmas Day afternoon saying our flight home from NY the following day was cancelled with no other info. Managed to get it sorted with the travel agent but BA were fucking useless. They also cancelled a work flight home from Glasgow on the morning of the flight. Got rescheduled to a later one but only got n standby (luckily I managed to get a seat). They’re wankersSolidgone said:I don’t know if anyone else is experiencing this but BA seems to be either cancelling flights or rescheduling the timings of the flights.
