Kelamity Man isnt the answer - how many goals has he scored in between his (numerous) injuries? Really dont get the love-in.

Kelman is always going to be rubbish in a Nathan Jones team. Good in the box when you supply service but when you ask him to battle and grind he’s going to get bullied week in week out.

He just doesn’t get enough game time to know exactly how well he could do to be honest, he’s generally coming on to fight fires after we’ve been shit and most of the team are fucked from being run through for 70mins.

Really made me laugh quite how annoyed he is by this kids drawing

It’s a con. Ouma did all those drawings and posted them in from his adventure…

Without his goals last season we'd have been relegated.
  • The performance against Hull at the end of last season shows what he is capable of, not just the excellent finish but the fact he also stretched the pitch and ran in behind, to then shug off a strong and experienced centre back.

I really hope Jones comments about being to loyal to a smaller group of players now means that we will see Charlie get the opportunity to play substantial minutes. Alongside the introduction of JRC, Carey and Knibbs more regularly

The equaliser at Burnley came from Kelman doing the hard yards, putting the defender under pressure, and causing the mistake which Knibbs latched on to.

Also think the stick for the one on Saturday was just weird; he reacted, got a good shot off off balance, and the keeper did well, only fit player who can do that at the moment

Kelman is a sniffer and we don't create chances for a sniffer to poach - just like Godden would be largely ineffective.  He will not be a regular scorer for us the way we play.  it's pretty obvious.  alongside Miles he might be effective like Kermorgant and BWP were with the big guy / little guy combo but we don't play that way.

I've said since day one, we overpaid for Kelman. If the plan was for him to learn from Godden that hasn't worked because Godden has been broken for the whole time.

I really hope I'm proven wrong but I can't see him ever being prolific for us under NJ

Given Miles link play is very good and his ability to get around the pitch has improved, would there be a sense in him playing that 10 role with Charlie in front?

I don’t agree with this assessment of Kelman. Although it is part of his game, I wouldn’t describe Kelman solely as a ‘sniffer’. He’s a threat with balls played on for him to run onto, and around the box as well. Leaburn is the same, despite his size, he’s not a target man. Much better with the ball into his feet.

The reality is, we don’t have a playing style (at all?) with possession that plays to the strengths of either player.

Shreks reaction is actually quite David Brent esque, and its great how Edwards goes straight back in to find him and wind him up.

We could play them both up top in last seasons 352. I think that would work tho midfield would still need upgrades and RWB is an issue.

The problem with that is where does it leave TC? either back at LWB which massively negates our best player or on the bench which is even worse. And I think that sums up the trouble - despite some gaps in key positions we have a number of good players but they dont fit into a system that gets the best out of all of them.

It would help Kelman but it would make our already problematic midfield issues a lot worse. So it’s not really something I think we should do

I think we just need to find the right combination with the front 4 that gets us the most goals.

That’s TC on the left, either Leaburn/Kelman up front, Grant/Alli on the right and then Carey/Knibbs/Costello in the 10. Jones needs to work out which combination is the best quickly, I’d probably return to the 4 that started the first 3 games given we actually won those
  • Play Leaburn on right wing. The best cross against Bristol City and Watford came from Leaburn marauding down the right wing. Play Kelman at centre forward, he’d thrive on crosses like that. Leaburn has produced zilch at. Umber 9.

Love this and have always thought it. Would give defenfes something to think about, doubling on him and tc.

Kelman up front, grant in behind and carey or mwamba and cov behind.

Just don’t see how Kelman fits in his success at Orient was because he had Donley O’Neill Agyei Galbraith in behind him all whose priority was finding his runs.

Grant wants to score goals, Knibbs/Carey always been goal scoring mids, TC wants to score goals. The only player capable of giving him something is JRC and he hasn’t got the legs for the entire game

Hope I’m wrong but I don’t think it matters where Kelman plays what formation in this team with these players and manager he’s going to struggle.

I think TC and Grant would try to find Kelman. The problem is more that we'd need to stop playing long balls in to him - he can't do the target man role - and would need more creativity through the centre of midfield.

I find it quite concerning/telling that people are suggesting turning our 1st choice striker into a winger because he isn’t being a good enough striker, says it all about how we are doing at the moment🤷🏻‍♂️

1st choice but not our best, there's a difference.

We would keep playing long balls with Kelman though. They’d just be a different type of long balls, into the channels or over the top for him to run in behind onto. Rather than with Leaburn we hit them at him for him to hold up

We just don’t have the players to play through the lines and through midfield to create chances that way. If Kelman plays he will give us something different and allow us to turn teams around more to get us up the pitch

At least he's actually played out there, a lot of Leaburn's under 18s and 21s football was playing wider instead of directly through the middle

I think that Jones should be given the chop and bring you in, you have all the answers.

What have I said that’s wrong there? I’ve just described how we used Kelman last season and how we’d use him this season (goal at Burnley came from exactly that). You can play direct with him there it’s just a different type of ball to what you’d play to Leaburn

His body has changed quite a lot since then, he isn’t a wide player now, certainly not for 90+ mins. Square pegs being suggested again, how about the club sign the right players in natural positions?

He also looks good out there in part because he's dragging CB's out of position. Moving him out there permanently is a non starter for me

I don't hate the idea of Leaburn playing out wide but it wouldn't be to put crosses in as a traditional winger. Leaburn started off his Charlton career being played out wide because he's deceptively fast and can bulldoze a full back like we saw against Watford. I'm always put in mind of an Everton v Arsenal game years ago where Roberto Martinez put Lukaku out on the right and Naismith up front. Lukaku was put up against Monreal and still received high balls but instead of having to win a header against a physically aggressive CB he could bring the ball down with barely any difficulty and then push forward and inside. Naismith was put up front to run off Lukaku and either receive a pass or open up space for him, which Kelman could do. Mirallas played on the left to make sure Arsenal couldn't double up on Lukaku for fear of the direct threat on the left and Osman was in the 10 because of his work rate. Arsenal were completely thrown by it and Everton won 3-0. It's all stuff that's completely doable with our setup.

Granted Lukaku was left footed and playing on the right gave him the chance to cut in to get a shot away but I could see Leaburn having a lot more scope to bring the ball down and do something with it up against a full back. Ben Chrisene of Norwich isn't a dwarf but I think he's only about 6ft so there's a clear advantage for Leaburn there. Also, despite and possibly in part due to his height Leaburn isn't that great at directing his headers on target. He gets up above his marker but he's generally on his way up under pressure as he meets the header so he sends it up and doesn't direct it well. He might benefit from coming on to headers at the back post where he's got more of a chance to get a run on it and get over the ball to head it down. Centre of the goal he just seems to get his head on it and that's it. Having TC's pace on the left, Leaburn helping us get and keep the ball high up and then surprising his full back on the deck and Kelman able to do something with the space that opens up would be interesting to see
