It’s like when anyone suggested Lee Bowyer should be sacked - he had the same cult like following.

The football has always been terrible, even in the promotion season but you don’t mind when you’re getting results.

Now we have terrible football and terrible results so what’s even the point.

Jones has been dealt a bad hand but his recruitment is partly to blame for that.

I also think the squad is much better than it’s given credit for, we’ve just lost all identity, leadership and any form of style of play, so no one has a clue what they’re supposed to be doing and that comes down to the manager.

RE: "Jones has lost the dressing room" - Has he... Has someone taken the signs down again?
We annoyingly went 2-1 down early, and Jones quickly made the changes which made us look "better" and were unfortunate not to score thanks to Campbell's deflection going the wrong side of the post, and then a disallowed goal which could have gone either way as the Lino guessed... What end the team spirit today was the third goal, as their heads slumped even more... confidence is low and it just killed them off today - Had we made it 2-2 there is every chance the game could have gone either way again as we could have been in the ascendancy and Norwich's own confidence would have taken a hit... We'll never know sadly.
Don’t agree. We were outplayed for vast parts of that game. I have to question why Grant was played out of position and even with the changes, Norwich passed and moved a lot better than us.

I agree we had some chances and that the ref made some bad decisions too, but overall we were well beaten by a much better team.

Our problems go much deeper than this one defeat. We have been playing poorly, in my opinion, for the best part of a year, with some notable wins splattered amongst the dross.

We all know that our midfield is a problem and many of us say that recruitment has been poor for a few windows now - we also know we cannot compete with most clubs in this league.  That’s not down to NJ alone.

Our squad is below average, unbalanced and too many in the 25 are just not good enough.

So, we either accept that our fate [likely relegation] or the Board replaces NJ with a better manager and then pump some real money in.

Sadly, I think they will hope we can “nick” another year in this league and then try sell the club.

There is a third option. Equip Jones with a squad capable of playing Championship football. Why do they have to wait until NJ is gone to pump real money in?
I suppose some [not me] might think that he is not a good enough manager in this league, despite his past record.

Either there is no money, or they do not want to give it to NJ.

Jones under pressure and rightly so but Phil Chapple is getting away with murder here.

3 CM’s signed. One predictably not fit, one AWOL and one not deemed good enough to get on the bench.

11 players signed in the summer and 3 deemed good enough to start today.

I suspect Jones will go. Interestingly used the term “they” when referencing the club which was telling, but my word has he papered over some cracks in the last 18 months and others are just culpable for this current mess.
    100% agree

Probably saw how poorly he spent their money and thought better of it.

Hard to justify why you should be given more money to spend when you loaned two of your most expensive signings back to league one and barley played the other two

Well if that’s the reason they are pussies for not sacking him, they can’t have it both ways. We needed better but they haven’t given the recruitment team the backing needed, don’t moan when we are in league 1 and you’ve pissed your money up the wall, they knew the deal.

If we sacked him, he'd be the exact profile I'd manager I'd want to replace him to keep us up...

He's not perfect - but he's the best manager we've had in an absolute age - and we still are about where would be a successful finish this season.

He's continually been digging the players out ever since the Stoke loss - I do think that has taken its toll on squad morale, you'd imagine it surely would.
Exactly this. Leaburn last week and Edwards today.
Deliberate attempt to be sacked?.  He talks a lot of crap, but he will know the implications of digging players out in the modern era of the precious footballer .

I honestly think it’s the opposite compared to Bowyer. People blindly believed in him because he was “one of our own”. Look at the age of this thread - for 2 of Jones’ 2.5 years people have been calling for his head. Yet in that timeframe  he’s been our most successful manager since Curbs. It’s madness, but such is modern football.

Problem is, I can't think of anyone realistic and half decent apart from Bow or Challinor
They'll go cheap and try to win the fans over with an ex pro like Pearce or bring back Jacko. That will happen after Powell turns them down for the second (maybe third?) time. While Gavin Carter is in charge any decisions will be the attempt to placate fans rather than actually improve us
Probably be Rowett tbh and I don't think that's any way an improvement.

Doubt it, word was that he left the spanners as he wanted out of London and move back up North.
He then went on to manage Oxford, famously in the north

Although I would imagine he would have been able to commute that, I gather that he was Midlands based.

I was thinking about this the other day.  If we are in this division next year, I think it’s time he moved on.  We’ve had too many failures in recent years, Tanto, Apter, Ouma etc - we can’t afford to get signings so badly wrong

Even though I think Jones should be retained now, if we get smashed by Middlesborough and then lose at home to Bolton a week on Tuesday then it becomes a hard case to make.

Weird post, throwing indisputably incorrect claims around to try and make a point.

Chris Powell comfortably our most successful manager since Curbs.

Seems like conversations have or are happening around Jones future as I’ve been given the name Lee Bowyer as a someone who’s in the frame to take over.

He was lined up after the Cawley game too. Let’s hope today is a turning point just like that was for NJ again….

Personally I’d hold off until the international break if a change was going to be made

I love Bow but can't see him doing any better with this squad than NJ. Just give him more time FFS, he's turned it around before.

I loved Lee Bowyer last time, but I honestly think he’d be a poor appointment. The squad we have doesn’t suit him at all, it screams of a cheap attempt at pleasing the fans but I fear will quickly turn things even worse

Bows isn't the right man for this at all. Feels like Carter wanting the cheap fan service option.

I love Chris Powell, but Jones is better in terms of PPG & win percentage. Plus I’d say we were in real trouble in L1 when Jones took over (19th and looking awful). We were 5th in L1 when Powell took over, almost in the autos. Jones took us from a much lower place and kept us up, Powell inherited a better situation in L1 and, ultimately, achieved a good championship finish.

Both great post-Curbs managers, but I’d rate Jones’ achievements ahead of Powell now as much as I know that’s not popular (especially after getting smashed at home by Norwich - recency bias etc). Still, both much better than the other dross we’ve seen so why spin the wheel and likely end up with more of that dross?

I love Bowyer and that stellar 2018-2019 season was incredible. But that was almost ten years ago, and he's done nothing since, not the right man at all. It would be absolutely crazy, and a sign of a club managed by people that do not have a clue.

I think Challinor is the best available and realistic name, but not actually sure whether he’d want it.

Because there aren’t any available good options it makes sense maybe to get someone in till the end of the season, but I don’t think Bowyer is the answer. (The answer is actually giving Jones at least till the international break)
