I am going to say it!! Yes I am, Nathan Jones......................

I’m not in the Jones out camp yet! We are on a bad run but I think he will turn us around, I’d take finishing 19th all day long but it’ll be nice to improve on last season and what I see at the moment is a team performing worse, which on paper should be doing better!

He's slow and blows out of his arse after about half an hour but has some ability on the ball. We need players that can put in a shift over 90 minutes with how Jones wants us playing. Strange signing really.Gribbo said:Was Rankin-Costello a bad signing? Think he's been pretty decent when he's come on1 -
This is another of those miserable periods which come along quite frequently with this Club.
Those of us who have 'been on the journey' with Charlton Athletic for many years have grown used to the experience. It doesn't get any easier and the discussions are usually the same. Change the manager, change the players, change the owners.
Let's look at the big picture for a minute.
We've heard previously from Jones and Gavin Carter about 'the project'. Getting to where we want to be in a sustainable and sensible manner. We have KPIs apparently (key performance indictors) and last season we outperformed them. We are ahead (or at least on track) of where we want to be on 'our journey'.
So far so good.
But I wonder this:
What are we aiming for? Premier League? Has that been articulated by Carter and his colleagues? Because our owners need to know that won't happen with the current approach.
After our promotion (via the play-offs, as I recall) we 'strengthened' our fairly average League 1 squad with reasonable/decent League 1 players and a light sprinkling of Jones' Old Boys. After all, it worked once before at Luton, so why not do it again, eh, Nathan?
Subsequently we have moved on to the next phase in our 'journey' and added a raft of players who collectively don't seem to amount to much. You can cherry-pick those who you regard as successes and those who seem more like failures but, overall, our latest recruitment programme has been poor.
So, what are this season's KPIs, Gavin? And how are we doing against them?
And have the owners realised yet that mid-table Championship security comes at a significant price ... although that will be dwarfed by any attempts to go one better. Man City's misdemeanours are likely to have significant ramifications across football's finances, but things won't change overnight.
So ... big picture ... what's the long-term destination, Gavin? Because the ticket price doesn't come cheap.
I love this Club, as do most of you. I want a competitive team that I enjoy watching. Yes, I hope to win games.
But Jones is serving up a turgid style of football that will generally result in little more than Championship survival at the very best. He is a limited manager with limited players. Some of that is his fault, but I question the commitment of the owners, probably due to naïvity at the outset, coupled with a very poor player recruitment strategy.
So, big picture.
Sustainable and sensible gets us to mid-table mediocrity or lower. Let's not pretend that we are aiming for higher when the actions contradict the words.
I will still be there as long as health and the years allow. But the future of the Club depends on attracting and keeping younger fans. And that is built on decent football and success.
That's what 'sustainable' really means, Gavin.12 -

It’s been said I know but after Boro away you’d think NJ has two home games to save his job. Fail to win either and he’s a dead duck.3

There has to be a line in the sand, and i'd say he's tinkering on the edge right now, failure to get 5 points before the break and as you say he could be gone before the return on 21st November away at Wolves...LargeAddick said:It’s been said I know but after Boro away you’d think NJ has two home games to save his job. He has more footballing nous and can pick a creative pass better than anyone else in the squad. He's slow, so what, he's quick in the head.Talal said:

His attributes are great for a possession heavy, dominant team but not for a counter attacking one like us. He does make some fantastically incisive passes but he doesn’t have the bite and physicality we needRedskin said:

Not quite sure i'm in the Jones out camp yet, he's done huge amounts for this club and deserves more time.
But one of the saddest things with how this season is going is our inability to use it as a way of developing the next generation of our talent. This is no way for players like Mbick and Mwamba to learn their trade; both of who i was hugely excited about before the season started. Am just pleased that Fullah and Gough are elsewhere right now.0 -
Are we not ignoring the elephant in the room? We have an extremely low budget for this league and we can’t sign players with the required quality. Norwich have twice the budget we do and in the end it showed. NJ says himself he has a reputation for outperforming a low budget. Who on earth would we get in who could do any better with the money we have. I feel fans choose to ignore the fact we are skint because the reality is too hard to accept. Our owners say they want sustainable growth but there are rumours they want out and the failure to hire a CEO tells me they are not really serious about growing revenue and ultimately the player budget.

Dave Rudd ! Well said, young man !
How about contacting Weegie at CAST and ask for those points to be put to whoever is likely to respond to them, whether it's a positive reply or not ?
THOSE are the questions we all need answered and soon ! But I'm not holding my breath...
The natives are becoming more restless day by day and rightly so.
Time to roll out Big JR to face the fans once again with the mission of trying to appease the faithful with that "slick" manner he possesses ?
Failing that, as a Lifer suggested a few days ago, let's resurrect the infamous LIAR banner

The SLT at the club are well aware of what is posted on here - the same old questions will get the same old answers. Do you expect them to say anyhing different like "yes, we are crap but we haven't got a pot to piss in and the owners don't want to spend any more money than they absolutely have to, and they want out"?The natives are not becoming more restless and I don't believe there is any motivation to move to protest mode - they are talking with their feet. It's apathy that is winning the day, not revolution.4 -
Jones choose not to spend it, or was it spend a lot of it on skipp.. you can choose!fenaddick said:
So where did the JRS money go? Or didn’t never exist? Because that seemingly got taken awayDubaiCAFC said:
I am not, Jones knew the budget, and it wasn’t the worse. But he wasted it. The model been the same since the start!!NabySarr said:
I think you have been used previously to push the owners agenda so I'm not going to believe you I'm afraid. You seem to be the only person here who is defending their investment this summer which I think says it allDubaiCAFC said:
Well it is. And that was Jones choice. Again Jones money spent badly.NabySarr said:
I wasn’t talking about then. This summer he was on trial at Sheffield Wednesday before he came to us.DubaiCAFC said:

He was trialling to earn a deal at Sheffield Wednesday before he came to us, they are only allowed to offer players something like 7.5k a week under the restrictions the EFL put on them.DubaiCAFC said:
So what you think he is on?NabySarr said:
If they think Chalobah is on 19k a week I'm not sure you can call them reliable anymore. It's a load of bollocks as is most of the stuff you see from people's sources about player wages. Some had Kaminski on 20k last season from their "sources" but it was reported when we signed him that he was on 12.5kDubaiCAFC said:
Heard these numbers from someone reliable. So choose to believe or not. Grant was WBA highest paid player by some distance. He was closing on nearly 40k a week with them. WBA paying silly money for years hence nearly went out of business.NabySarr said:
You are just making up numbers here. I very highly doubt you know the players wages (none of us do). But if you were going to make it up at least make it more realistic than us deciding to pay Chalobah 19k a week, not even we are that stupid.DubaiCAFC said:Grant 25k a week million signing on. NC 19k a week Skipp we are paying 50% salary he on 60k a week
Grant was on 25k a week at west brom in the championship, on a contract he signed when he was at his peak. He's definitely not on that much anymoreNo other championship club wanted him. So he’s probably on a bottom end championship/top end league 1 wage given that’s where he’s ended up being in demand. 7-10k a week based on all of that. To me that seems a lot more likely than your “source’s” 19k a weekI have just checked again, so he is 15k a week and then 4k appearance bonus
I know we are incompetent but there’s no chance we’d offer a player 15k a week when no other championship teams wants him and he’d barely been fit for 2 seasons. If you believe that you’ll believe anything3 -

Bob,
The speculative answer that you have provided does not reflect the question I posed. You are right ... no-one expects the SLT to say anything like that.
I'll re-iterate what I'm asking:
1) What are we aiming for? Premier League? Has that been articulated by Carter and his colleagues? Because our owners need to know that won't happen with the current approach.

We are on an Andy Burnham £2 bus ride. It doesn't go the The Seychelles or Miami. It stops at Blackpool and Grimsby.3 -
He can been a top end championship player. Someone that has not been used enough in games when we are on top and need some control why also offering killer pass. Yes he has physical weaknesses but we would of know that when we brought him in.Gribbo said:Was Rankin-Costello a bad signing? Think he's been pretty decent when he's come on0 -

I wouldn't mind him leaving as I think his football is terrible most of the time.
The issue is, we can't attract any decent coaches/managers cause our ownership don't have the funds for a truly ambitious manager.
Come to the realisation that we need Nathan Jones as much as he needs us for now. Ffs.8 -
Minus the tonking they just took, no one heard of Vitor Matos when he took over at Swansea and he has done a pretty decent job. Yes they have more money but still competing against the leagues big hitters.Braziliance said:I wouldn't mind him leaving as I think his football is terrible most of the time.

Have no idea if true but for the 1st time seen talk on socials tonight he has gone and an announcement 2mro. Personally I don’t think it will be that quick and I think he will get a win in the next 3 games and save his job. Some1 is either on a wind up or knows something. The Burnley decision could of moved things forward quicker?0

We are on an Andy Burnham £2 bus ride. It doesn't go the The Seychelles or Miami. It stops at Blackpool and Grimsby.I believe GC has provided an answer to the second question, Dave - continuous improvement a step at a time with this season's League performance to achieve the third quartile i.e. 13th to 18th.The answer to the first question has got to be 'eventually' otherwise the assumed investment model, that has got to be based on a return on investment, is only possible in the Premier League. I'm not sure GC has articulated that overtly but I'm confident the owners have realised that things need to change if there's more than a hope in hell of achieving that.Your third question - I think it's pretty certain that the answer to that will be yes - hence looking for further investment or an out.0 -
Do you really have any faith in our footballing decision makers to find a manager abroad that’s good? Absolutely no chance they’d even try but if they did it would probably be a disasterking addick said:
