Just had a mental breakthrough and its 41 because 40+40x0 = 40 because only one of the 40's become's 0 and then you just have to add the one.I think.0

Not according to this...
huh, not gonna believe wiki ;-) ... sticking to my answer of 1 ... which is the most logical
I agree mate, but you would get a nice kiss from the teacher if you put that in your exam...0 -
40 + 40 = 80 x 0 = 80 + 1 = 81?
Well I keep getting 81, but I'm a thick as pig shit Nazi..... :-)

Could explain why the Portugese economy is down the swanny. It's 1
40+40 =80
80x0 = 0
0+1=1

I wish someone would actually read what I put, I think it's a load of bollocks, I think 1 is the sensible answer, the FACT is, due to BODMUS (read the link), It's 41.0

THIS. Logically its 1 but its 41 according to maths.0 -
Wriggle wriggle P :-)
Just to cheer you up I'm having to miss the Udders game as well as I'll be stuck in sunny Solihull.

...so 80 x 0 ain't 80? :-/0

Ok. This really annoys me!The order in which you do a calculation is BidmasBrackets firstIndicies secondDivision and Multiplication afterAdding and subtracting lastso 40+40 x 0 +1 = 41ARGH!!! Its not hard!!!0

It's 41. Take it from someone in the middle of a Maths degree, haha.0

I do advanced further maths A-level; it's 41.
Sums are done in order of
Brachets
Order of power
Division
Multiplication
Addition
Subtraction

Algarve, I'll take your word for it.
However, if anyone does subnetting on here (or you AA as you seem quite maths literate) how the Feck does 2 to the power of 0 equal 1?
0 -
AA's right it's 41 according to Bodmas.
40x0 =0
0+40=40
40+1 =41 simples

Seems to be some right brain boxes on here. Anyone want to help me improve my maths GCSE C into an A?0
-
Bodmas applies without brackets so mathematically speaking the answer is 41!!!0
-
...so 80 x 0 ain't 80? :-/
80x 0 (nothing) = 080x1 =80

42 ?(nah, not really. 1).0

Right.1) 2^5 is equal to 32.2) 2^(-5) is equal to 1/(2^5), therefore 1/32. (by rules of powers)3) 2^5, multiplied by 2^(-5) is equal to 2^0. (again, by rules of powers)Putting those three statements above together:2^5 * 2^(-5) = 2^032 * 1/32 = 1Therefore we can say that 2^0 = 1.0 - Sponsored links:

the + signs separate the rest of the sum from the 40X0 bit. We all agree 40x0 =0 I assume!
Hence: 40 + 0 +1 = 41
If there was a bracket under BODMAS (or other derivatives) it would still be 41
40 + (40X0) + 1 = 41
Bracket first ie 0 then the rest of it.
Well that's what I remember from the sixties anyway!

1 surely?0

1 surely?
To get 1 as the answer you would need (40+ 40) x0 +1Callum seems to be the man for all this though!

It's basic binary maths chief. Anything to the power of zero in binary equals 1 - because you only have 1s and 0s.
However, if anyone does subnetting on here (or you AA as you seem quite maths literate) how the Feck does 2 to the power of 0 equal 1?

I put it into my calculator and it came up with Kanu.
Go figger...
