Because who wants to work boxing day?
Well apparently, most of the retail trade, and footballers. Either its a religious holiday or its not. If it is, don't open the bloody shops or play football. If its not, then open the shops, play football, but don't fill up the roads with people who'd be happy to go by public transport. That's how they do it in other countries

It's a railway thing, I think, rather than public transport generally. There is a perfectly reasonable bus service usually. In recent years there have even been a few trains, but that seems to have been stopped again.

I believe Boxing Day is a peculiarly English thing (not even a public holiday in Scotland), but then I understand many countries get more excited about Christmas Eve than we do.
  • It is a public holiday in Scotland - has been for years.

Fair enough - do they play football on it?

I blame the football league. Surely boxing day games should be as local as possible!

No doubt they will be. Think they were £2 more last year on the day.

About the same time it takes me from Devon. Just ordered my tickets for the first away game of the season.
Remembered to use my Red Cad this time, just in case I need to prove that I have been to matches. Forgot about this for the home matches. Bugger!

Hope it isn't cancelled like the trip to the Valley last winter:-(
