I really can't understand this move, especially as we have paid a transfer fee. Cawley gets one right...

It might make a lot of sense if Hamer gets injured.

Because Sullivan isn't good enough and will be leaving on loan.

No, surely Hamer isn't leaving, Powell did an article saying how well he's played just a. Few hours ago:

I heard a rumour of Sully to Pompey pre season so makes sense

powell has previously said he would allow sullivan to go out on loan so it seems like this allows him to do so

Fair enough. What I can't understand is the transfer fee aspect. I think Cawley quoted £500k. If the doom and gloom merchants are to be believed, aren't we supposed to be broke?

A Tottenham fan in the office reckons he is pretty good.

Sully goes and it appears that we have replaced him with a better player thus making the squad stronger. Sully is out of contract end of the season as well

Friedel, Gomes and Cudicini aren't exactly terrible are they?
  • I can't believe we paid 500k for this fella

  • No idea what he's like but he strengths a position which needs strengthening. See you later Sullivan!

I should imagine that's what Powell means when he says he's trying to be fair to him.
If he goes out on loan and does well, then he might be able to earn a contract with that club.

Sullivan was set to be moving on this summer from back in March / April. Surprised this move didnt happen earlier, but makes sense.

£500k was a fee quoted in The Mirror - hardly gospel
  • The preported fee of 500k is without doubt nonsense.

No point in dragging up a "is Hamer leaving?" rumour. It's just good competition and a better replacement if Hamer is ever injured. I don't think Sulivan would be good enough if called upon, and for this league we need the best we can get.

could well be 500k based maybe 100k upfront 250k in promoted, 150k after 30 league appearances etc

He's a good age where as Sullivan (who was touted for a loan a few weeks back) is in his 30s I believe - EDIT - just seen he's only 24 !!!

Button has all the hallmarks to be the next Paul Rachubka

Seriously though, to have 3 decent keepers all under the age of 25 can only be a good thing can't it ?
