He talks about charlton as his club so surely he would be doing it for free

The offer by PDC was cos we were skint and he wanted a platform to prove he could do it

Which he will PDC will be a success because he is that sort of bloke

If he keeps them up ....he will hailed a hero and if they go down they will say he arrived to late .....time will tell ...could have been worse sunderland could have ened up with Dowie

Loved him at The Valley, but PdC is a total lunatic. He won't last 12 months. He's perfect Sky Sports News fodder. The press conferences will be hilarious, there'll be some ridiculous short term controversy, then someone at Sunderland will realise he's mental, fire him and realise the damage is done.

His brand of insanity worked as a player, but as a manager it won't wash. Swindon enjoyed the attention he brought. Sunderland won't.

I think the opposite i think sunderland will relish the attention

Warnock and holloway are just as nutts as is jose mourhino

Time will tell but i wish him well and hope he is a succesful mgr

The bloke gave us a great season

And dont forget when he caught the ball against everton as a gesture of fair play the guy is pure class

I wouldve pushed allcock over for being a cock

Did all you anti pdc feel so enraged when we signed him

Did you applaud the pen against arsenal or the other dimension to the play he bought to us that season

I didnt want him to play for us...It's my right to think that. It's also your right to like him, and that's why I don't comment on people that like him. Embrace the fact that we can all like who we like, and dont get too upset when somebody likes someone that you dont...simples!

  • Options
It was a genunine question not a dig i never heard 1 person criticise him when he played for us and i seem to remember the penalty was lorded as the best piece of brillance in that situation

Didn't the racist stuff really come to light the year after at Lazio?

I dont know enough about facism to know if being a facist makes you a racist

    Genuine question

I think PDC is charismatic, passionate, focused, determined, professional, articulate, volatile, fickle and most importantly as mad as a box of frogs. If he can get the players to buy into his particular brand of insanity then things might go well. Can't see it lasting for too long though. It is going to be great spectator sport.

Professional - pushing over a ref, slagging your players off to the press and openly fascist do not exactly shout professional to me.
Curbishley said that PDC was one of the most professional players he had ever encountered. That's good enough for me.

Being professional as a player isn't necessarily the same as being professional as a manager.
I don't like the word professional at all any more. It is the case that everybody in paid employment is either, um, in paid employment, or/and is 'professional'...as in 'the counter assistant at MacDonalds did a really professional job taking my order and dealing with my question', 'or the plumber did a professional job sorting out my leak' and so on. Everybody who works is urged not to be 'unprofessional'...all just meaningless tosh. Professional is a catch all word that is defined on the hoof by whoever is using it at the time.

Not necessarily but it's a very, very fine line as facism is nationalist at it's heart, and it's extremely easily to spill over into racism and xenophobia.

Plus most of the types fascism attracts are, simply, racist.

I think he'll keep them up as an impact manager ... long term not so convinced

    This
Also this. Sunderland's form was too dependent on Fletchers goals. Can see them getting that new manager spike in results and playing a poor Newcastle side soon is going to help get the fans on side if they win.

As an aside there's a few unhappy Hammers sobbing into their Easter Eggs today as they wanted him to take over from Big Sam.

    Interesting times ahead.
Not sure how you've come to the conclusion that he is an impact manager when he got Swindon promoted in his first season and left when they were top of league 1 in his second season. He doesn't let the players get complacent if they make one bad move they and everyone else knows about it and he won't hesitate to drop anyone. We need more managers like him.

I dont know enough about facism to know if being a facist makes you a racist

    Genuine question

You can be a fascist without being a racist. There were well over 1000 Jews in the Italian Fascist party until 1938 when, having previously described racism as ridiculous, Mussolini suddenly decided that he needed to adopt racist policies.

How comes all this fascism tripe and fake outrage didn't come out when he joined Swindon?

Just another example of the problem with Football in this country where the majority think the game starts and ends with the Premier League.

Good luck to him I say

    From PDC today

"I don't have a problem with anyone. I haven't had a problem in the past and I don't know why I have to keep repeating my story, to be defending myself on something that doesn't belong to me every time I change clubs.

"Talk about racism? That is absolutely stupid, stupid and ridiculous. The people who know me can change that idea quickly. When I was in England my best friends were Trevor Sinclair and Chris Powell, the Charlton manager - they can tell you everything about my character."

There we go even more reason to love PDC if powelly loves him then thats just a great reason to think i was right

this, and he only did it because Hitler was unhappy with italy "sheltering" jews and was done as more to brighten relations between the two countries.

Mussolini was the ultimate sell out.

Italian fascism has racist theories of white supremacy at the heart of it's philosophy. It is ridiculous to suggest that one can be a fascist without being a racist. If PDC thinks he can he either doesn't understand fascism, or he doesn't understand racism, or both. Idiot.

Regarding Jewish membership of fascist parties - well perhaps they should have stood up in the market square and denounced Mussolini. I can see that working.

Actually |I suspect that PDC isn't really a fascist at all, just a nationalist with a taste for the outrageous. Still an idiot.

    Oh sorry, IMO.

Should people be denied jobs in football because of their political beliefs? Milliband evidently seems to think so. Seems odd to me. I think it's a dangerous signing because PDC has only managed as high as L1. If he keeps them up through sheer force of will there's no evidence that there will be something to build on and if they go down it's not like he's an experienced manager who will necessarily have the tools to take them back up quickly. It's a proper gamble. I look forward to him having a fist-fight with Lee Cattermole and trying to force John O'Shea to do a step-over though. I hope we secure our status quickly so I can get the popcorn out for the rest of Sunderland's season.

I don't think David Milliband is trying to deny Paulo a job - he's just saying he personally doesn't want to be associated with a fascist.

If a known communist was given the job would some of the hypocrites on here be moaning then.

So you think objecting to the posturing of a self-declared fascist is hypocrisy? And whats with the personal insults? And who's moaning. Guys an idiot. That's not moaning it's a statement of opinion.

No personal insult as I didn't mention you personally.

What his political views are, are for him to decide.

As he is involved in a multi-cultural sport then the people who meet him and deal with him day in and day out would have a better view on how he is as a man.

Ooops. Sorry. Changed my mind about getting into this discussion.

There are some very strange views on this thread.

    Hardly unusual for CL.

I once witnessed a demo by the Jewish branch of the EDL at 7 Dials. Bizarre.

The Miliband resignation is crap. He's off to the States indefinately anyway and so might have been resigning anyway so hardly a stance being made is it.

Off to "earn" £280k a year paid by a Charity he will be working for?!

I'd love to be that sort of socialist. Maybe one day when I'm as rich as him and Blair I may well be.

And they say fascists are bad eh RCT ??? Nothing like a leftie man of the people to take money from the places it's needed most as a wage and then pass his wisdom on political issues of others
