  • why publicise that? Is that official?
  • £1250.45
  • Indeed, there are hundreds and thousands of rumours going around.

    Thought there were millions
  • why publicise that? Is that official?

Official club twitter feed and why not?

Clubs then know you have some money to spend, maybe not much but some. Can't see that there is any advantage to doing so really.

  • so the contractor who is filling in the pot holes in the car park knows he's going to get paid tomorrow.

That is the height of stupidity.

What on earth are we doing?

Yes we do, about who owns us, what their plans are or what's happening to BWP

We don't want a headline saying we are getting six figures from a sell-on fee (which is probably going straight on running costs anyway) that will tell anyone that's bothered we might have more money than our negotiating position might suggest.
  • or hear hear
  • Cant win either way, we would soon be moaning if they didn't disclose how much they got from Shelvey being sold...

This is probably the most tilting/annoying thread ever yet i still keep checking it, says alot about me :)
  • Like every club who we might be doing business with wouldn't all know about Shelvey earning us a little cash. Do people honestly think other clubs don't think of these things and are completely incapable of using Google to find out what they can about the original deal? In fact, I'm confident that the majority of clubs know far more about the details of this deal than the vast vast majority of people on here.

But no, we should keep the sell on clause a secret in case some nasty club is completely clueless and having just found out about it tries to diddle us.

Get a grip, truly is silly season on here.
  • Leeds have turned down a £3m bid for Sam Byram from Crystal Palace.

Not just clubs we'll be negotiating with.
  • Bolton have signed Jermaine Beckford - opens up the door for Sordell maybe?
  • There's no freakin' pleasing some people on here. Anyone in football will know that Charlton are due a sell-on fee from Jonjo's sale.

What it does do nicely, if you read the whole piece, is provide a good bit of promotion for our academy and highlight what's possible for any youngsters thinking of coming to us. We'd all love, in years to come, to be an established Premier League side with our own youngsters filling the team. In the meanitme though, we get to promote our academy and show them that joining us isn't a barrier to going on to play at the highest level.
  • Yes but not to us

not necessarily. there have been a number of times when we have re-negotiated so that we can get money up front when we might need it as opposed to when a sale occurs especially as you can never be certain a player will be sold for a profit so maybe it's better to gamble on getting something rather than nothing.

Also, players we are playing hard ball with and maybe telling there is no money in the pot to increase our offer now know that there is.

However, it is strange. Since TJ et al have taken over all fees etc have been undisclosed. Why shout this particular detail from the rooftops now?

To remind all potential bidders that we do have accruals in our accounts after all ;-)

Most fees are undisclosed, as is the amount we are getting from Shelvey's deal. Saying six figures can be anywhere between £100,000.00 and £999,999.99; the actual amount is undisclosed. This is the same as when we were told we paid a seven figure sum for Darren Ambrose, the actual amount was undisclosed.

I really do not see what the problem with this is?

Incredible, a bit of good news and yet you still manage to find something negative to say about it.

  • Former Chelsea and West Ham United striker Carlton Cole is understood to be at Selhurst Park discussing a deal with Crystal Palace, the Croydon Advertiser reports.

    Ha.

Exactly. It's about as precise as saying "lots of dosh for that young shelvey kid... lovely mooolllahhh" - plus it's pretty much what we, the fans, have been asking for - i.e a confirmation that there are funds being received.

  • Blackburn have signed DJ Campbell after QPR released him.

    Hang the DJ :-)
  • The way they announced it was smart. It meant that we found out something that was under question (as you can sell future clauses). The fact it's "six figure" puts less pressure on the club to spend every single penny on transfers. If it was announced around 400k there's a risk that people may be unhappy if we only spend £250k on transfers even though all of the money may be invested in other areas that we as fans cannot see (wages, investment in academy etc.).

Really don't see how anyone can have complaints for the club keeping us in the loop.

    Lol, tough negotiation that one:

CAFC: We have very little money to pay for XXX so need him to be on a free transfer:

Other Team: But you just made £250K from Shelvey sale

CAFC: Here are accounts we lost £7.4M last year, so that means we only have a deficit of £7.15M now. Happy days...how much do you want?

Unless we have just employed Ridsdale as our Chairman I am pretty sure that announcing a 6 figure sum will not make a jot of difference to anything.
  • I accept the above points but I still do think it strange in the context that we are not kept in the loop about anything else.
  • It's a positive story about the academy, surely everyone can see that.

It's a reminder to fans and young players that we have invested heavily and that there are returns on both sides.
