Took the plunge with Speedplay Pedals in the end. I'll have to wait to report back on whether they are any good. After an epic 90 minute battle between man and machine no amount of GT85 and swearing would budge the old right hand pedal. Going to have to take it in to Sidcup Cycles and let them have a go at it....
the answer is almost certainly yes, especially as it's the right one that's stuck, but you have remembered that the 2 pedals are threaded differently haven't you?
took me a while to take mine off the other week; so pleased I'd put anti seize grease on them or they may still be attached

Yep, the issue is they are allen key only and the allen key handle is only 7-8 inches long so I can't get any decent leverage.
Had this last time I changed pedals and the shop got them off in 5 mins!
best thing I bought was a proper bike tool kit and a bike work stand. So much easier working on the bike when its hanging up rather than having to bend down and sruff.
Can different pedals/cleats really make a difference?
Not sure it'll make a huge difference, but I've read people saying Speedplays are very stiff and help power as they don't flex at all.
At the moment I use Look Pedals and am getting fed up with how quickly the cleats wear, even with covers when walking. Also don't like have to flip the pedal constantly when commuting. Speedplay can be used on both sides.
Pedals switched. Now having a 'mare clipping in and out! Can't get the left foot in no matter what I do. Plates on the cleats are not over tightened! Help! Driving me mad.
Just been out and tried again. Seems once you get in once you are sorted! Need to adjust the "float" now as theres too much. Love the new Fizik shoes though. So comfortable.

Well you must get some new wheels to go with them.
Bicyclewheelbuilder.co.uk has just built me a pair of DT Swiss RR585* on Ultegra that look lovely. Excellent service to.
* My son and his mate think RR585 on the rims looks like ARSES.

What Fizik's did you get? Was looking at the R1B for racing next year, they're gorgeous, proper porn to look at and feel so good on your feet, but my god they're expensive

Had a carbon seat post in a aluminium frame that was slipping all the time. Used some Carbon paste and properly tightened to the correct torque and problem solved.
To grease or not? my alloy seatpost into a carbon frame keeps slipping.
Buy a carbon seatpost. Problem solved!
Not come across this before and my last 3 bikes have been carbon frames with an alloy post. Wasn't yours a custom build? If yes, probably worth having a word with the builder.
Finally back on my bike this week after 3 months off. My stamina is shot but at least the ankle is holding up ok so far, a bit sore after 4 days commuting. Only doing 20 minutes each way and will keep at this level until next month. Feels great to ride again though

thanks Clem, not custom it's a Ridley frame rebranded for Merlin. I'll try again tomorrow with the grease wiped off, if that doesn't work i'll get a carbon post.
Can anyone recommend a route from Plumstead to Canterbury that keeps away from the A2 and the A299. Will be cycling there on Saturday and it looks like I might have to go by way of Whitstable, which adds a few miles.

My route went out via Orpington, Chelsfield, Shoreham, Otford, Wrotham, Borough Green, West Malling, north of Maidstone, up Hollingbourne Hill (a beast) then Ringlestone, Newnham onto Faversham and then Graveney.
thats 65-70 miles. Nice route, not too bumpy. Can either ride home or ride on to Canterbury to get a train home to Orpington then ride back from there!

We'll be staying over as we're meeting a beer club there. Thanks for the route. I'll ponder over it.
Apart from the occasional commute, I am now two months off the bike after the Pyrenees...just back from the US and have put on 10lbs in those two months (most of it in these last two weeks), so am getting back on the bike from this weekend (once I've rebuilt it) and am mildly excited about the prospect of cycling again.... Looks like I'm doing the Mallorca 312 too.....isn't that what you did last year @Leroy Ambrose ?

Yeah. Well the Mallorca 220 as it turned out for me after my knee exploded halfway up the first climb (I'd fitted saddle 20mm too low after unboxing the bike the day before)
Lovely event - front loaded with climbing, but only two lumps of consequence in the last 150km, which means you have plenty of time on the flat to recover. Get with a good working group and a tailwind on the back half and I reckon it's do-able in 10/11 hours. Plus, riding in Mallorca in general is wonderful
So, next bike upgrade will be a new saddle. My current Selle Italia Gel Flight max is on its way out.
Am considering a Fizik Kurve Bull, but baulking at the price. Anyone ride one of these or have an alternative suggestion?
Have you checked out how your flexibility fits into Fizik's saddle concept? They have a guide showing you what kind of saddle you should go for based on your spinal flexibility. I thought I would be a 'bull' based on years of thinking I had a very inflexible spine (never been able to touch my toes) but turns out I was a 'chameleon' and went for the Antares. Best decision I ever made - the saddle feels moulded to me

Cheers. Will investigate. Was just basing my choice on reviews and the width.
Can anyone recommend a decent physio with some knowledge of cycling? My knee is still f**ked despite a bike fit and the general sports physio I've seen is useless

We got a bit lost near Maidstone but its simple to navigate. Was a proper slow club ride that day.
