Load of rubbish.Grapevine49 said:I do wish you would keep up GA I cannot believe you missed that RD is on the point of securing agreement with FIFA to reduce football teams from 11 to 10 players? He is very suspicious about the number 11. It is an odd number anyway.
A spokesman for his mathematics think tank argued it a fundamental distortion of binary mathematics and abused the spirit of decimalisation.
His suggestion to remove goalkeepers because they stop people enjoying goals being scored was well received. The Americans loved it. The rumour he was upset with paying for dodgy French goalkeepers who having failed to make the grade in Belgium then reduced watching crowds in the UK to fits of hysteria is completely denied.
His group of "in depth" analysts having studied hours of internet football and old videos argued most goalkeepers were a complete waste of space hardly ever venturing beyond the first big white line on the pitch and more often that not rarely kicked the ball unless they had picked it up first. Statistically it had been proved the percentage of goals they scored for their teams was exponentially worse than any other category of player - it was noted that on occasion they did facilitate their opponents scoring some goals.
His legal representatives suggested the game was in breach of European trade law as goalkeepers are allowed to use their hands when the game is clearly described as football.
European consumers groups were said to have been largely in support of the initiative.
That it would enable RD to make 18 players and 6 goalkeeping coaches redundant (across his 6 clubs) was merely seen as a fortuitous economic benefit - though RD did acknowledge it would help balance the books
Lies dammn lies and statistics.

Charlton athletic are keen to boost their attack with stevie may of st Johnstone and Sam baldock of Bristol city, o Grady from Barnsley still looks promising

I wouldn't argue that the Belgian league isn't in the European top ten - unfortunately I think the Championship is to and is possibly stronger as a whole. Having said that - Standard Liege are stronger than Charlton - just not by as much as I suspect RD may think - or at least what he though when he purchased us. MInd you - if we get all their rejects they will be a lot stronger than us - unfortuantely, the other Championship teams won't be getting their rejects also!0

I'd be more than happy with May & Baldock, with Pete the Pole, Reza & Church (as back up) then not a bad front line.Richard J said:

Those 9 are clearly the best. I think u could make a case for 5 other leagues being no.10
Belgium is one of those five.
Standard wouldnt win this division. Neither would Anderlecht. How many of the excellent
WC squad play in Belgium? Fix the league format, its a nonsense.

poor belgian league - talking about sweeping statements - how many games of belgian teams have you actually seen? i follow belgian dutch, english, german french spanish and italian football - if we talk about poor leagues look at wales, ireland, scotland - belgian league is decent enough as shown by uefa rankingsThe Red Robin said:I'll judge him on how he good he is for us. Don't care how he may have played in a poor Belgian league previously.
based on belgian club performances in european cups last 5 years
i would say the belgian league is around the level of the dutch league nowadays - it is amongst the 10 strongest european leagues;
i remember standard de liege playing both Liverpool and everton a few years ago in the european cups. They lost to liverpool in CL qualification after extra times (goal in minute 118) and with a missed penalty, and they knocked out everton that season. But of course that was against some poor english clubs from a league way worse than the championship...1 -

Wouldn't be surprised to see Yoni Buyens sign.
There's no doubt we will sign some network players this summer. RD said that they under-estimated the strength of the Championship so any Liege players coming in will be higher quality than the ones in January.1 -
