The last tweet was the most telling for me re:the under 23s. That's where you're getting your number 10 and strengthening the midfield from in Jan Karl. That or looking at the free agent market that did so well for us in the 2nd half of last season......

    .
  • I wonder if Marc Pugh would drop to our level. Not getting games in the Prem.

I have to have the subtitles on when listening to KR's interviews. Even the subtitles struggle I think
  • Talks a great game. Very impressive. Just hope he can back it up.
  • 'KR | "We are looking to enhance our options in midfield. We could do with a number 10 as well, in case we want to chance our system. '

I am glad he has identified this. I believe the link play between midfield and attack, especially through the middle of the park, has been the weakest aspect of our team for a fair few years.

But has Kat agreed with him on this issue & confirmed that funds will be made available ?

Or is this his way of letting her know that he expects some dosh to strengthen the squad ?
Even more so, has Thomas Driesen agreed to the players he wants

    I like him.

Sounds like we'll be busy in January

One maybe two in. He mentioned youth as well.

The most defining thing in January will be if any one leaves.

  • He does interview very well.

Must be a dream for journalists as he gives so much from one question.

Seems very switched on and likeable.

I was impressed by how much he passes on praise to others - coaches, players etc. Sign of someone confident in themselves and their own ability that he can give credit to others so easily.

Could even say he was a bit cocky but maybe, as someone said to me, the right side of cocky not spilling over to Pardewesque arrogance.

And he's right, there is the basis of a decent league 1 squad if he can get a few more in and the injured players back.

Interesting that he said he likes his teams to "pass, to tackle, to foul". Yes we saw that in his MK Dons sides but maybe it's OK when it's your own teams doing the fouling as then it's getting stuck in and managing the game.

The proof of the pudding is always in the eating though.

Come on Karl, I've got a £50 bet that we'll finish in the top six. Don't let me down : - )

Just be patient, oh sorry, got the wrong manager for this season
  • Reminds me of David Brent at times

Patience is so last year, we're going to be "aggressive" now!

He would be a very poor manager indeed if he couldn't identify the problems which are painfully obvious to thousands of Charlton fans with zero coaching qualifications.

What's possibly more important is that he has said it out loud, at a press conference, which is where previous managers have come unstuck. We shall see if his Belgian overlords contradict him with their usual "We have enough players, you can only play 11" guff or if they actually back him to correct the deficiencies in January. I'm not holding my breath.
True but not every manager wants to play that way. He's said he ideally plays 4-2-3-1 which would naturally include a number 10 in the middle of the 3.

Slade wanted to play 4-4-2, presumably with Ulvestad (a tidy passer but not a number 10) alongside a box to box midfielder (Thompson). Luzon and Peeters were similar, very much preferred two strikers in a 4-4-2.

I'd have thought Slade wanted Thompson playing alongside Crofts (was Ulverstad just a last minute replacement for Thompson?)

  • Very interesting that Declan Rudd could be back tomorrow... Wonder whether he'll be starting or whether he'll be on the bench himself; despite conceding three goals on Tuesday it'll be extremely harsh if Phillips is dropped i.e.

Bristol Rovers: Conceded Once... Was a penalty that Dillon conceded but their player was going to score if Dillon didnt foul him anyway - Our defence was a bit silly to let their player get in between them anyway

Sheffield United: Conceded Once... The one player who was awake for their Free-Kick, kept us in the match to earn the draw

MK Dons and Bradford City: Clean Sheets... Wasnt really tested against MK Dons but did well against Bradford

MK Dons: Conceded Three... First goal was because of Aribo's mistake, second no one would have saved... third was because we've got a Centre-Back who doesnt give a shit.

Have been reading a lot about the Liverpool cases with their Goalkeepers at the moment and the reasons behind why Karius was dropped for them last night (basically to protect him) whilst Phillips would be dropped for no reason what so ever!!

  • I think Phillips will understand, although may not like it, that when Rudd is fit he will be first choice this season. KR said Rudd was the best goalie in League one, how can he leave him out. The only hope is that Phillips will get an odd game, although not in a cup game now, and be ready to be number one next season, but with these people running the club, who knows, they will probably sell him.
  • I think we need to bolster central midfield before we look at the wings. Or is that another clue that Lookman is off?

If I was playing as well as Dillon Phillips Is, I wouldn't understand..
  • At a guess I think that he will be replacing Ajose...
  • Worried that he talks about outs and a revolving door. Don't think we can really afford to lose anyone else...
