Unbelivable he went to my primary school , always remember the game against Leicester at upton park he tore them to bits . Very sad RIP .
He was in my year at John Ball. He had a reputation but was a good bloke underneath that. Went to his house once in the estate on Blackheath Hill. Great shame that Football didnt prove a way out for him longer term.
That's right the estate was either heathside or lethbridge he went to morden mount then john ball,he was my younger brothers age bit if a rogue but even then u could see he had talent to play football very very sad so young .
Remember David chipping Kasey Keller at the Valley from outside the box, Keller was beaten all ends up but the ball just grazed the crossbar and went over.
Not wanting to sound all Liverpool FC but do you think the club will do anything (minute silence/Applause) if confirmed?
I should think they probably will if it's confirmed before Saturday - maybe a chance to show his goal against Watford on the big screen before the game!
I've just remembered the time I met David Whyte. I must have been about six-years old and it was at a Junior Red party at Woolwich Leisure Centre (the glorified swimming baths with the snake slide coming out the side) and in my excitement I wandered up to a bloke that was the spit of David Whyte (I think it was his brother) and asked for his autograph, who then laughed and pointed over my shoulder to the real David Whyte who was standing right behind me. He was my absolute hero as a kid, and as many others have said here, he was the reason I kept asking my dad to take me back to Charlton every week. It's so sad.
Incredibly sad (as it is when anyone passes away, young or otherwise) as lots have said he was an absolute hero of mine as a youth and whilst I heard he was not having a great time of it the same can be said of a lot of ex-professional footballers.
Very, very sad rest in peace david whyte, whyte, whyte

Very sad news. He was brilliant for us in his first loan spell and then in 94/95, a season well documented in Garry Nelson's Left Foot Forward book. It does seem he has had issues, at least they are no longer there to hurt him now.
if i remember correctly, after he started banging them in, a number of charlton fans organised a sarcastic sending of Thank You cards to Ron Noades for letting us have him on the cheap
- the overhead kick v Sunderland that is on this thread - classy lob on the half volley home v watford - free kick in the cup (v Brentford ?) - goal at home to Liverpool in league cup - volley outside box on the run away to Swindon in league cup

Gone far, far too soon. RIP.
Speaking of Liverpool FC, he scored against them as well, league cup 96/97 at the valley

Did he really join, with Paul Mortimer in a swap deal for Darren Pitcher? If that's right, no wonder Palarse hate us...
I'm sure the club will do something on Saturday,
A minute's silence (not applause) would be suitable on Saturday.
RIP David Whyte Whyte Whyte
I was just telling my son about him the other day.
RIP David.
R I P David.

He was one of those players (like Benty) who you knew was going to score as they lined-up the shot.
Most of us will leave the planet without making much of a footprint - not true of this man.
Thanks for the memories.

David Whyte Whyte Whyte !
He gave me the joy of me telling my children the crowd were singing about me!
