  • If there is a release clause thats a massive kick in the balls for us.
Whoever agreed to that is a bloody idiot.

As mentioned earlier in the thread maybe that was the only way we could get him to sign a new contract.
At least we get a transfer fee . It could have been a development fee like Poyet.
  • How would you put a release cause in a 17 year old's contract? Hard to believe.

To get him to sign for us in the first place.
exactly, why can't some people see this instead of using it as another stick to beat RD over the head with? The alternative would have been a Poyet situation and a fee decided by tribunal of two shirt buttons and a bag of Tesco pick n mix.

No issues with a release clause - just the figure, it's far too low. If true.
    This
  • I'm sure if that's the case , Roland will put his 'contractual lawyer' ; Ms.Miere on the case of finding a loophole or ways round it!
  • Reports that Joe Gomez has £3.5m release clause are not right. If that was the price then deal would already be done and dusted.

  • If you remember last year Suarez had. 40m clause and arsenal bid 40.000.001. He didnt end up there he went to Barca for more money.

We should give RD some credit for this as it is more than we would have got under the previous regime. However, it is still far too low

but there are two parties involved in agreeing a release clause. too low, we don't get a decent fee, too high and he doesn't sign a contract and we get next to no fee. what would you prefer?

Completely understand that point as well.

Wasnt that simply a Gentlemans Agreement that Liverpool decided not to honour because Arsenal's bid was so cheeky
  • Would love it if we signed Bulot... Could fast become one of my favourite players... i.e. his reaction when he sat on Watt after the latter had scored against either Brentford or Huddersfield spoke volumes about how much he seems to like it here

    This.

Even if he had a release clause (which he hasnt according to Cawley) then it doesnt mean he goes for that price.

Why's everyone getting their knickers in a twist???
Because if its like the release clause feature on Football Manager then when that is met, there is sod all you can do other than click the accept button (and its bloody annoying cos you can do nothing about it)

    .
  • Cawley reporting a guaranteed £5-6m with it going up to £10m with add-ons. If true, that's a good deal.

Er...ones the real world, and the other isn't.
  • Gomez signed a contract as a young lad making his first steps into first team football, and in the knowledge that he was at a club who would sell him to a bigger club at the right time and price guaranteed. From what we know, both he and his parents have their heads screwed on and his initial position was a preference to stay rather than move and he had to be persuaded otherwise. I would be reasonably confident that if he is not playing in a Premiership first team, he would prefer to be playing in a Championship one. The last thing he would have thought about was a buy out clause.

    His agent however...
  • It may well be that Gomez has a buy out clause. I'd be surprised if it was as low as 3.5 mill though. RD is too canny for that.

You would see a different pattern if it was a by out clause and we would have accepted the offer by now
  • I wonder if Liverpool have told the press there's a release clause so it appears they're spending less.

Aren't Liverpool a club where they have to declare transfer fees etc?

Release clause it is then !

    (only joking Richard)
  • I wonder if Liverpool have told the press there's a release clause so it appears they're spending less.

No, fans make things up and that is all it takes for a rumour to grow.
  • Interestingly have seen that Bournemouth have had a £4m bid for Max Gradel rejected... Wonder how much we bid for him the other year (Wasnt it around £1m?)

Except it was reported by the AP.
  • Tottenham are interested in Swansea's Jonjo Shelvey, according to The Guardian.

With Paulinho and Etienne Capoue likely to move on this summer, Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino would like to bolster his options in midfield and he feels Shelvey would fit perfectly into his system.
