  • She will be good for the future - we can agree on that. England are not a fluid team. They have to be well organised and pose a physical threat and compete to do anything against the top teams. If you watch a video of both halves it couldn’t be clearer what the subs brought to the attacking side of the game which changed the whole dynamic.
  • The hold up play improved no end with the subs I totally agree, I also agree that for long periods there is little to none in terms of fluidity to the play, playing Fran for creates the space that doesn't rush the pass, the biggest problem I think is that the fitness and ability isn't through the team and there is only two or three that are close to her level and that causes a huge in balance and as a result means a lot of lost possession and need to defend, the second goal last night is how he wants to play Imo on the counter and with confidence
  • I don't approve of the corner-flag time-wasting, not in what is after all a showpiece world cup. In many respects the ladies are more sportsmanlike than the men - you don't get so much diving and stuff - wasn't a Norwegian clearly through on goal in the first half and clearly fouled but she stayed on her feet to get a shot off when a penalty was nailed on and probably a red card to go with it?

Anyway the thing that occurs to me about the time wasting is that the way we were playing in the second half was working and England Ladies if they are nothing else, are better trying to be positive than protecting a narrow lead; so isn't carrying on with the same tactics more well advised? I have often felt that way about the Addicks and with good reason I'd say. Scott heading straight for the corner for the best part of the last ten minutes including added time, was rightly given pelters by the neutral crowd.
  • I thought by the last 16 it would be the guys who try to be positive about Womens football that would still be posting, plus a few that can see despite the mistakes the girls of all sides give 100%.
Kirby is different to any other player we have, nothing worked for her last night,
but when to pass and when to take the player on will come.
Moore does a lot of work that go's unnoticed, but it's got to be either Chapman or Moore and play Jill Scott.
Toni Duggan is a good goal scorer but the partnerships up front aren't working to it's best.
Eni Aluko still has a good game left in her (Supersub Maybe)
Taylor who plays in The USA did great work up front with Scott and laid a lovely ball for Lucy Bronze's Goal.
Fara Williams who i saw play for CAFC 10 years ago can either do 30 yard pass to feet or will mess up a 5 yard pass !
Basset and Houghton will be the CB.
how about Alex Scott RB and Lucy Bronze LB ?
There will be a 50 thousand odd crowd in Vancouver against Canada,
    49500 supporting the home side.

Mark Sampson needs to get the correct 11 starting the game.
This will sort out the women from the Girls !
  • The crowd will be a big influence in Canada crumbling and England winning through
  • I thought they were done for last night when they went 1-0 down, but as you say above, a few moments of class, their confidence, and ability grew massively as the game continued. They've got great character.

Even so, the gap in formation between the lone striker and the midfielders who were tracking back to get the ball was far too big in order for the best player to hold up the ball with the oppositions kicking their ankles. Anyone would have struggled to have done anything up front. The ref let a lot of tackles go that I thought were quite bad - against England and the corner stuff annoyed me too as I thought we could have gone a 3rd, but not worth the risk.
  • I hate the fact you speak knowledgeable about football suzi,

I think you are bang on with regards the gap between the striker and midfield,

It's certainly got me interested in the rest of the competition as long as England are in it,

Very glad it's on BBC as well

why do you hate that fact?

I dont tend to enter into debates about footballing ability. I don't claim to know what I'm talking about. I have never played and my debut at footgolf last week has sadly confirmed I never will.

Was a back handed compliment suzi apologies if it was received incorrectly, the easy response was to question why you were not cleaning the house or cooking dinner as women have no place in football , but I thought I'd recognise your take on the match as spot on
  • Whoosh. Didn't get it sorry! Sadly was still at work and am having to text dinner instructions to 'im indoors. Modern life eh? ;-)

  • Get back to watching the footie, and buy 20 emergency pot noodles Easy solution 8)
  • Good suggestion playing Bronze at left back. Moore might do a lot of work but the key players in midfield yesterday were Williams and Chapman, so I'd drop her. I'd start with Taylor and Scott or Scott and Aluko and bring Taylor on in second.
  • Another air shot last night. Woeful standard of football to be televised.
  • an air shot? Was Callum Harriot playing?
  • Watched a bit of the Japan v Netherlands game last night....thought the standard of football in the 2nd half was the best in the tournament so far (from what I've seen).

There there were two woeful bits last night.

I guess you didn't notice what a great pass before the Air shot ?

Also the fumble by the Japanese keeper.

So not impressed with the 20 passes or more by the Asian team, and the build up to the second goal by the Japanese.

Or the build up to England's second goal against Norway.

If this is a whoosh, don't bother.

No, other people just asked those that think it's shit not to comment anymore, which most of us have politely done.

  • Fair enough
  • But who is playing and whats the score
  • France 1 - 0 Germany with 20 mins left
  • Penalty to Germany
  • never a pen
  • LOL terrible decision.

    That's deliberate handball is it?
