You gotta laugh at times like this. Get angry outside their entrance next Saturday.
Actually a little bit disappointed it wasn't 7. Unless I've subconsciously blocked some horrific memory, in 27 years following the Addicks, I can't remember ever shipping 7. There was 6 against Leeds in the Prem but that's as bad as I can remember.
If this really was a soap opera it'd be getting panned for being too melodramatic and a bit far fetched.
11 goals against in a week, and knocked out the cup by a team in the league below before that. We are hilariously bad at the moment.
Cannot remember how many years ago it was but I was at the old Goldstone Ground when we lost 7-0 to Brighton
1983 and we lost 7-1 to Burnley in 83/84.
Burnley 7-1 was 1983 (82-83) season. Simonsen was in the team but we did have two sent off.
Brighton 7-0 was Oct 1983. Ended our seven match unbeaten start to the season.
After sleeping on it, the only bright thing about this morning is the snow outside the window.
I'm still in Hull and the only clean top I've got is my Charlton shirt (didn't wear it to the game for pub entering reasons) - some funny looks at breakfast this morning !
Whole new definition to 'the walk of shame'
Ha, we just went for a wander around town to sharpen up before heading back to civilisation and some local shouted "bad day today yesterday lads" which was a bit confusing !

Home now, battery died on the coach. No thoughts on the match, no point. We're a shower of shit. We are awful at defending. We're bad up top as well, but because we rarely had the ball out of our own half, you can't examine how bad as much.
I just spent the coach journey reflecting on what the hell I'm doing with my life. The most curious thing is that the coach and the banter is great, the result is almost secondary at the moment. They had some chap who works for the FA doing a piece on Betty Hutchins as she's been nominated for fan of the year. Now I've been going on Betty's coach for years, I was happy to do an interview with the guy. It got me thinking. How much do people like Betty give to this club. How much do we all give to this club. Endless fucking hours travelling, giving up whole Saturdays. I know it's our choice, but when all that is keeping me going is the experience of the banter and crack on the coach, it's not right.
Why have we been cursed with these owners. Why have they come into my life and ruined my number one love...why do I see this smirking bint, cowardly hiding away, having ruined another weekend. This absolute imbecile of an owner who nobody knows anything about. People say he must be a clever man to have achieved the success he has in business. I think he's a fucking idiot. He's come into my life and twisted the knife in and messed with one of the most important things I do.
My involvement in Charlton now is so focused on driving these people out. I want to hammer them with protest after protest. I want KM to stay away. I want her to suffer the indignity of not being able to attend home games.
It's so simple. RD had fans at standard rioting, and within 2 years of owning us, we don't want him here anymore either. What the fuck does that tell you. Roland, you're useless at this running a football club game.
It's not for you. Buy a model train set. Go back to politics. Play football manager. Sniff glue. Whatever you do, get out the football business. You don't know what you're doing.
My final bit of frustration is over the players. I'm not interested in this feeling sorry for them. All these words after Tuesday about how we've hit rock bottom and we've got to turn it around. All these gestures re: refunds. We must be the only team who can take a 5-0 defeat, come out and say enough is enough, and then go out and lose 6-0
These players have got to start taking responsibility now. They haven't and they've been given a lot of patience. They are paid a lot of money. They have nowhere to hide anymore. They should be ashamed of themselves - instead I get prats like Vaz Te running over to us at the end to clap us. Fuck off. You're only here for the money Vaz. You don't care.
Let's just keep the protests up
You obviously love going to Charlton games (going being the operative word) obviously watching them at the moment is no fun it's the going/day out what keeps you going no matter what dross is served up on the pitch it's what you enjoy doing and as long as you enjoy that experience then keep on going....the good times will return...just don't know when though.
He needs to go by train, get a beer down him to numb the pain.
Makes the 6-1 loss at home to Leeds in the Premier League seem like the club's halcyon days
At least that day it was just that Leeds were very good and Viduka at the absolute top of his game. You also couldn't fault the way the club was run then, or the players or the manager.

Didn't a young James Milner tear us a new one as well that day? Edit; might have been Harry Kewell, Milner was the same year but next season.

I think it was Kewell but Milner may have been there too. I think Lennon came on as a sub late on. Blooding youngsters at 6 up, rather than 6 down...
Game aside, we've had our fair share of shite owners. All the best in getting rid of the muppets in charge.
Secondly, I apologise if any of you had to listen to the City commentary team yesterday, as I see yours may have had technical issues. All I will say is that we have to put up with that shit all season, and have been doing for years. At least you don't have to listen to the dross all the time like we do.

That's why I don't bother with the player. Intermittent technical issues and intermittent random commentary.

Yup, they were a very condescending pair ...bloody awful commentators.
Wasn't there. Just watched the highlights. Fucking jesus.
His Dad better not find out, not renowned for His sense of humour (I could be wrong but, from a skim through the Old Testament, it's on a par with Roland's knowledge of how to run our club properly).

Great post and absolutely spot on. Cabbles, I had this moment awhile back and it's when thinking about others like me whose lives have been entwined around this club (Betty Huthchins is a stellar example) that I begin to feel the blood rising. That absentee Landlord and the arrogant Witch who does his dirty work couldn't even comprehend what you are talking about. They are typical new-to-football adults who will never get it but who think they know what's in our best interests. But like most new-to-football adults, they will lose interest sooner or later and move off. Just how much damage will they have wrought in the meantime?
Every time I think of Calamity Williams I can't help but think this is the same owner that GAVE AWAY Michael Morrison and sold Dervite on the cheap and Gomez for next to nothing.
Just watched the highlights on player. Could not see one tackle made by us during the approach play to their goals. Truly shocking. The players should be embarrassed.

Hi @RedTank, thanks for your comments, I do the match thread on here, normally from our commentary home and away, however listening to those two muppets yesterday was the first time a match thread couldn't be completed properly, both are a waste of space and really should not be allowed near a microphone, any microphone!!!

I think we've just got to keep protesting. It doesn't matter if KM retreats to under the rock from which she crawled and won't be there on Sat. Every game for as long as it takes, fill that west stand car park post match.
Arrived back this afternoon but haven't had the stomach to read through any posts as yet.
So, a couple of thoughts at the end of a week where we've travelled over 1,000 miles to support our lads, - twice as many as the Proclaimers- spent a hefty whack of our pension dosh, and as a final flourish to 7 fantastic days , witnessed 11 goals conceded by our team. NOT a week to remember with any relish.
But, no-one forced us to go. It's what we do- support our team through thick & thin. We are fortunate to be able to travel at our "leisure" and to fund these away days ( even though it's egg & 14 chips for the next month ) but we return home each time a little wearier than the last and less optimistic for the return of those joyous "adventures" when 3 points gained was the cue for a doughnut with our celebration cuppa. C'est la vie sous M.Duchatelet.
I won't dwell on the sad tale of the match itself as it's purely masochistic to do so. Suffice to say, before our loanee , Williams made that horrific error, we looked much more sprightly and "up for it" than 4 days earlier. As they say over & over again... it's the hope that kills you every time. But for me, Hull are by far the best team we have played thus far this season and their goals were pretty special.
Where do we go from here, then, I hear you ask...
I have sufficient faith in Jose to expect a definite improvement in our next performance. I know that actions speak louder than words, but I read what our Captain had to say and I've also listened to our manager's - both fill me with a sense of hope that has been sadly lacking for some weeks. This is an organised guy who inspires players, I believe and will have our lads playing to their strengths & being totally clear on their roles in the team. Whether it will be enough to keep us in the Championship, only time & hours of stress for the 2% will tell.
I believe that JR has indicated that there will be additions to our threadbare squad which I'm sure will be of his choosing - from his previous interim tenure, we deduced that he was not a Duchatelet puppet and I have no reason to think that will change. Is this a clear indication that RD is finally seeing the error of his ways ? Whilst that would be a miracle comparable to my favourite "myth" of water being turned into wine, this is wishful thinking in the extreme. What it hopefully does indicate though is that finally, our esteemed (spit) owner has realised that relegation would be a disaster for our Club & has decided to relax his rigid stance on balancing the books at all costs. Sadly, this may be too little, too late and I'm certain that all concerned Addicks would remind him of that until the cows come home.
Meanwhile, although it has been said many times before, I honestly don't blame the players for the position we find ourselves in and for the 2 heavy defeats over the past week. If you worked for an employer who persisted in introducing inexperienced staff to your team, who were ill prepared for the level of their duties and who outnumbered the "old heads" that would ideally show them the ropes, wouldn't you struggle to cope ? And consequently, if said policy resulted in the end of month results taking a severe downturn, wouldn't you feel you were hitting your head against a brick wall in trying to keep the team afloat ? As for numerous new managers in your department with differing ideas & systems to impart.... Everything stems from the policy and bloody mindness of one man , either directly or indirectly. It's that simple. And whether this season ends with a sigh of relief or a groan of dismay , I see little changing whilst that one man is in charge of our Club.
IMHO , a total boycott of a game at The Valley will never happen.....well, certainly until and if the situation drastically worsened...heaven forbid.
The protesting will continue apace and the manner will be varied and resourceful I'm sure. I shall join in as many of these as is possible : wearing my black & white scarf, joining in the stand up chants during the match, protesting outside the ground after each game, refusing to buy a programme or anything from the Club Shop , writing to KM with my reasons for not buying a season ticket next term plus any other activities within the law and applicable to my advanced years that will serve to show "them" that we shall not be moved. But I shall not boo the team regardless of how poorly they may perform - I refuse to agree with those who do so.
I sincerely hope that my inadequate words explain how I see things and that others will consider their stance on the current situation. I don't profess to be right but I can't see any other way to make my point at this moment in time. And in the team & its new manager, I'll do my utmost to keep the faith.
Every time I think of Calamity Williams I can't help but think this is the same owner that GAVE AWAY Michael Morrison and sold Dervite on the cheap and Gomez for next to nothing.
That's the entire Duchatelet scheme summed up right there. Employ cheap 'value' players (Williams), stay in budget regardless of performance (Morrison), sell players for profit (Gomez).
This whole 'moneyball' approach only works if you are smarter than everybody else, spotting value in players that nobody else has. It has become quite clear that the Charlton recruitment staff are considerably dumber than everybody else and undiscovered value is much harder to find as most players are well scouted by many teams anyway.
In the space of two years, Charlton's recruitment policies have turned a squad that finished a creditable 9th into one unable to survive, never mind compete, in this division.
I didn't go yesterday so don't want to comment too much on the game but a couple of points which haven't been made:
The career progression of Harry Lennon-the poor lad was doing very well by all accounts at Gillingham and has come back to be thrust into our first team playing alongside the even greener (and probably not very talented) Nabby Sarr and then a seriously unfit and underprepared Roger Johnson. Surely a centre back starting his career should be playing with an experienced and established partner to guide him through games? Not just stuck in there and everyone keeping their fingers crossed it goes okay. And then yesterday he's put at left back, not his normal position, against a team at the top of the league filled with Premier League players. All the best Harry! The situation with our central defenders, in my opinion, is the biggest indictment of our flawed recruitment policy-we basically started the season with Barr, Bauer, and Diarra who, by own his admission has only ever played at the back three or four times in his career before coming to the Valley. Ridiculous!
The other issue is our run-in. We would struggle against anyone at the moment but our last 10 games look horrific and Jose can't get away with taking games against the big teams for granted because most of those matches are against teams in the top half. Despite it being less than 5 points to safety, I truly think we're doomed.
Comments
Edit; might have been Harry Kewell, Milner was the same year but next season.
Hull City fan in peace here.
