With the injuries removing several key players, the squad being taken to Austria looks a bit thin, especially at CB, as shown by the teams put out against Bromley.
I'm sure there will be more signings, but ideally, we'd have brought a couple more in before this overseas trip to help them integrate into the squad.

It's probably worth noting that for most clubs you have to sell to buy, and if the paper reports are true we're about to have around 5m coming in (albeit it over the next who knows how long because that's how transfers are structured). Because one of our players made a deep run into the Euros (still can't believe the fee for him is 2.5m and Dale Stephens has a 4m bid rejected), things were delayed in addition to overall market delay.
The next week should be pretty key. The window is still open for another six weeks, but once the Cousins and JBG deals are confirmed, we'll see if Slade has some important, quality replacements/additions to the squad lined up, or if we're going to try going the Buxton/Foley/Crofts route for depth.
As always we look stretched and with massive gaps in the team, especially with the injuries and Cousins being forced out. Slade wanted his squad sorted before Welling now it looks far from being ready before the Austrian trip.
Same old same old, we have to trust Slade and hope he is allowed to sort things.
Given our ongoing long-term injuries and Jordan Cousins' imminent departure, we currently have two gaping holes in the squad in two critical areas - at centre back and in central midfield. On top of that, we have ongoing uncertainty about the futures of Pope, Texeira, Watt and Lookman (to name but four).
Hopefully there will be some players coming in once the JBG and Cousins deals go through, but it's a tremendous shame that we couldn't have made more progress prior to the Austrian trip. I expect that Roland believes that he needs all his spare cash to buy off the contracts of the various duds that he and his bloody useless team of laptop scouts have foisted on us over the last two and a half years; that and subsidising the wages of players out on loan like Sarr and Vetokele. I'm afraid that the errors of the past are going to constitute a haemorrhage for some considerable time.
I suppose the financial problems of relegation are compounded by the fact that neither Duchatelet or Meire know the first thing about football and the importance of a good pre-season with the core squad. On the contrary, Duchatelet has, as we know to our cost, always been a firm believer in the 'sticking plaster' approach. Let's hope that, this time, the wiser counsel of Russell Slade will prevail.
I appreciate that the players have only been back a fortnight and that the market is now starting to move more swiftly but the fact of the matter is that our first league game is only three and a half weeks away. I do not want to see us running out at Bury with Roger Johnson as the sole recognised centre half and a central midfield of Ba and Jacko, particularly given the importance of a good start.

Cousins not being forced out !!
We beg to differ, he has very little choice. JBG wants out as does Tex but the top earners are wanted out by the club just as much, Cousins may have stayed and is happy enough to leave (you would have to be a saint or mad not to) but the club are adamant that they want him to go.
If Brighton turn down £4 mil for Stephens, how is Gudders only worth £2mil and Cousons £1mil?
We are being turned over and the claim that we will not sell our players cheap is shown up for what it is, empty words.
Charlton want 3 mill for Cousins but most likey get 2 mill plus add ons which given an international player like Hendricks of Derby been quoted at 3 mill, that's a good deal , Gudmunnson was 2.5 plus another mill with add-ons so again 3.5 is a good deal.

Is that like the £400,000 we paid for Holmes though?

Hendrick wasn't quoted at 3mil, they rejected 3mil...
Am I the only person who wonders what Katrien does all day? OK she and Roland haven't a clue what they're doing that's a given, but does Katrien actually put in a shift? For example we have posts to be filled and lots to sort out for the new season, I don't see any signs that Katrien is getting to grips with the job. How does she fill those hours?

Foley Crofts and Buxton. Looks as if a couple of them will be incoming then. Good to see Slade given some of the JBG/Cousins/Lookman dividend to buy some credible players in their mid twenties. The players people want from us have more future ahead than past behind. Slade is presented with our squad Develops and Johnson and all, gets a few sweeteners in the three we have signed, and then presumably expected to fill the gaps with kids. I hope I am wrong but it looks like the same old same old, with a frisson of Paul Benson, Gary Doherty type players thrown in to cement our standing as a third tier club.

£1.5m is an insulting amount. Sorry but that is a pathetic sale on the cheap, I thought Murray said we are no longer a selling club and Slade (who I have no issue with) said no-one is leaving on the cheap!! Another piece of fine business by you know who!!

I'm very surprised that JBG's fee was wasn't inflated by the Euro factor, but JBG and Cousins were both in a team that were dismally relegated, while Stephens was in a team that narrowly missed promotion, I imagine this would impact the fees.

Johnson (ahem)
Tex (who is probably desperate for a move)
then untried youngsters Konsa and Thomas

We will be left with too small a squad with players who aren't up to it, past it or not ready having to form a key part of the 11.
It seems we are getting all our injuries out the way early this year. So they might be ready for the final push to avoid relegation in may.
I imagine Russel pulling out his hair (if he had any) in trying to deal with KM.
