  • I keep seeing suggestions from fans that Tex is off is this pure speculation or has there been an offer?

Wow... Southend United have signed Simon Cox (Out of Contract) from Reading.

Thats a really good signing for them, someone who hasn't scored lots of goals yet last time he was in League One he scored 46 goals over around 80-games

Would have loved him at the Valley!!

    Southend have a proper CEO.
Southend have more ambition! Seriously starting to think that lessons haven't been learnt with this lot, balancing the book is the only ambition they have.
They have learnt lessons & have proved it by bringing in an English manager & signing 3 players with experience of the league that we're in ................... they've just under estimated this division & come next May they'll apologise for mistakes made & declare, We start from here !!!!!

I wasn't an enormous Hamer fan but he was a lot better than Pope and we did well with him before . Would take him on loan

He just won the league with Leicester......

Not convinced he'd want to drop to our level and get more abuse from a bunch of fans furious at how the club is being run

  • The more I think, the more I cant believe a Prem club are paying seven figures for a goalkeeper who (until the last couple of months of the season) had colective Charlton fans arses twitching every time he went near the ball.

Obviously we need a keeper in, but if we picked up a Ben Hamer equivalent for the same money as we picked Ben up for, and got a million for Pope, it would be a no brainer.

Big If in the above paragraph though.

this all day long, we should be laughing with a million
    They are buying potential.

With their windfall it's nothing more than a punt. The equivalent is like us spending £200k on a player when we were in the Prem - it's nothing.

Zero risk to Burnley and Popey will probably quadruple his wages

  • Don't want to lose Pope but there are plenty of good, young up and coming keepers out there. Ben Garatt at Crewe would be worth a look after they were relegated last year.

Lets see how it pans out over the season and who finishes it the higher position.

I'm fairly certain (though I'm no Mandy) that Burnley will finish higher than us...
I was talking about the spat between Burnley and Boro.

  • If pope becomes a regular premier goalkeeper i will be amazed, not good enough on the deck and 1 million is good money for Roland.
  • Not that i am backing the regime by saying this because i really do not, but selling Pope for £1m is not a bad price at all. He could potentially be a very good keeper, like other keepers he is prone to errors, but which keepers aren't. As much as i would have liked him to stay i'm not thinking we have been robbed here. Potentially losing Henderson as well is a bit of a choker, but he is a bit prone to injury. When fit he is very solid.

I do hope they plan on bringing someone in rather than promoting from within. I know Philips did well at Cheltenham but we need some experience at the back, with Philips as number 2 maybe. Will be interesting to see how things develop this week if both keepers go.

but a lot of people would have been surprised if he made a decent championship player a few months ago but he did.

Players do develop and improve, especially with good coaching and management which he is more likely to get at Burnley.

  • SkySports... Dont think these have been reported anywhere so would love to know who their Sources are...

    BURNLEY'S DOUBLE DEAL?

Sky Sources are telling us that Burnley are closing in on their first signings ahead of their return to the Premier League with a double raid on Charlton Athletic.

Icelandic winger Johann Berg Gudmundsson and goalkeeper Nick Pope are expected to undergo medicals in the next 24 hours.

Burnley fans must be a bit pissed off. They win the league and they're looking at players from a shambolic league one club whilst Middlesbrough who were runners up are off signing Negredo, Subotic, Ramirez and a host of other foreign stars.
A host of foreign stars? Maybe Burnley want to go with players experienced in the English leagues?

Or should people look for the better value players abroad? Perhaps we should have looked at players from one of the top 10 FIFA ranked nations, like Belgium perhaps, to get better value players than the Brits we have been looking at so far?
  • Just had it on good authority we are in talks with goalkeeper from the Scottish leagues with vast experience in league 1. Seems to think it could be a guy called Owen van Williams, never heard of him myself

Owain Fon Williams. Used to play for Tranmere. Was probably one of the better keepers when we were in league 1 last time.
  • On a lengthy contract with Cally Thistle

    Is it ffon Williams?

Fairly decent, lower league, history - was highly thought of a few seasons back.

    Texeira to stay on.

Source? Steady Eddie OFW in goal and Tex and Bauer at the back and the swingometer is coming back again.
  • Fon Williams wouldn't be a bad signing at all

Cool, so if we want to go for promotion, just another 6/7 to buy in the next 3 weeks. And maybe an assistant manager would be useful.

Eh I don't rate Fon Williams. If we're gonna sign anyone from Inverness, I'd rather it be Ross Draper.
