    Reece Burke linked in SLP.
West Ham centre back who won player of the year at Bradford last season.
And guess what......it would be a loan.

Charlton are keen on a loan deal for West Ham defender Reece Burke.
The Addicks have made their interest in the 19-year-old defender known to the Premier League outfit.
But the South London Press understands that their chances of getting Burke - who won Bradford’s Player of the Year award last season - are slim.
Newcastle have also been linked with handing Burke a chance to show what he can do at Championship level.
The England U20 centre-back is a top prospect and Hammers boss Slaven Bilic has previously stated: “He will stay with us only if he has a good chance to play.

Oh good we're signing Conor mcaleny again

Do you mean the same Conor McAleny who excelled with Wigan in League One last season?

Saw him play for Bradford a bit. Nothing special but solid enough. Gets forward well at set pieces and makes a nuisance of himself, but, like any Phil Parkinson team, hoofed the ball upfield every time he had it. Highly rated at West Ham though.
  • So far we've got rid of
    Sarr
    Watt
    Vetokele
    Tucadean
    JBG
    Cousins
    Pope
    Probably Henderson

All amongst the highest earners at the club and we've only replaced them with 3 players.

Add in the likes of Fanni, Suk Young leaving after their loans we've got an even smaller squad than before. Whilst also carrying Diarra, Kashi, Solly, JJ and Bauer who have history of picking up injuries making them miss a chunk of the season.

2 weeks before the start of the season we are in a terrible state. The ownership of the club has again shown a total lack of ambition to actually want to succeed this season.

you also forgot Motta, Big Mak, Reza, Dmitrovic, Bergdich. All squad players.

Don't worry, the entire board including Richard Murray said they had underestimated the Championship last season and learnt from their mistakes. I believe they also said something along the lines of "they are going to build a squad this year capable of promotion from league 1"

When have the owners ever got it wrong?

Top stuff. If he's half as successful as the last bloke called Connor who signed on loan from Everton he'll be a sure fire hit.
Think you are missing an "s" there Clem...

But a follow up move to take the 20-year-old on loan has foundered because Wigan cannot guarantee that Brannagan will play in at least three-quarters of their matches during his loan spell.

The Echo understands that the Reds now insist on a “75 per cent” clause for all of their loaned players, whereby clubs are penalised financially if a player they have loaned does not play in a specified ratio of matches.
An interesting story, that Liverpool don't charge loan fees, but insist that players loaned out play 75% of the matches, or else there will be financial penalties. I wonder if any of our loan signings have had similar clauses
  • You just wonder how long Russell Slade will stay when he realises what a big mistake he has made.

Sanogo had something similar. Not sure if it came into account as he was injured for the majority of his time at Charlton

Years ago we signed Carl Ikeme on loan from Wolves as Rob Elliott was injured, and he went straight in the first team with Randolph left fuming on the bench - not surprisingly, Randolph didn't renew his contract and left us on a Bosman soon afterwards

At the time it was rumoured that we "had" to play Ikeme as part of the loan arrangement

With Sonogo the percentage of his wages we payed went down with every game he played and after five full game (sub apps = 1/2 a game) we paid nothing

Due to suspension and injury I don't think he played five games (counting subs as 1/2) so not sure what happened? Did we have to keep paying his full wages or did Arsenal let us off because he was injured?
  • There is now no money for signings? Did I read that? So the desperate giveaway sales pay for the losses and we are left with loans.
So instead of seeing Premiership stars of the future we now see other clubs stars of the future.
    Great.
Slade is staggering around within this madness trying to make the best of it, he has chosen this of his own free will and must deliver at least 13 points before the transfer window slams shut, and 50 points around third round of the cup time.
Loans because we have no money, I blame Sue Parkes.

What's weird about supporting your team through good and bad times?

    Weird meaning unique?
  • I read we couldn't buy anyone else until sales were made, but we have now sold JBG, Cousins and Pope and possibly Henderson to follow, with Watt presumably totally off the wage bill, so whilst they won't reinvest all of that, they must allow Russell to spend some.

My local team! Maybe I'll pop by and get scouting for Mr Slade.

I guess you'd have to say 2005-6, given we shouldn't have been in League One in the first place to win it in 2011-12.
  • You just wonder how long Russell Slade will stay when he realises what a big mistake he has made.

He hasn't made a mistake. He knew exactly what the score was when he agreed to become manager. He has his own agenda, the trouble is, I don't think that involves giving his all to his latest club.

I'm all for that, just not when it is continuously self inflicted and avoidable.

Were you hiding under a rock in 2011/12?
