Having seen Holmes bust a gut in both pre-season friendlies in Austria, I think we have got a good'un. He was the stand out player (for us) in both games. Good ball retention, excellent crossing ability and also put himself about a bit. Got clogged by the Russians and the Israelies, but stood up and got on with it. I also like the look of Novak, gave 100% Speaking to Harry Lennon before the game against Macabi, he said the squad were much happier, under Slade. Said he was 3-4 weeks away. Also spoke to Patrick Bauer and he said he was back in training with the first team on Monday. I met up with Vienna Addick and son at the second game. There were also two Italian guys, who were Charlton fans, wearing the shirts, supporting the team. A couple of Austrian guys also had Charlton tops on who cheered loudly when our goal went in. Great 7 days away, I would recommend these tours to any fans. Had a fantastic few days in Vienna too, thoroughly delightful city.
How many were at the games amigo, and I take it not many from England?
Now the teams back from Austria, the head of recruitment should now be signing his contract. This should see more players coming in.
Not sure I see the connection between the two. Why would the signing of players have been compromised by the lack of signature on the head of recruitment's contract?
Perhaps the 3 signings were nothing to do with the head of recruitment (nicked from Wilder ?) and the HOR is not willing to put forward/make further contact with players, until he has a signed deal.
If that was the case I wouldn't blame him.
I could just imagine the deceitful lying cow, signing the recommended players and then denying he had anything to do with it and sacking him on the day the transfer window closes.

He provides the club with names of players we should be signing. He's hardly gonna pass this info on if hes not being paid by the club.

People seriously are not complaining about making contact with Novak before signing! It's probably the most sensible thing Meire has done for us.
I think it's more to do with the proposed idea that slade identified the players and then the club signed them, when in reality it seems contact was made before slade was even appointed and more likely slade accepted the signing rather than identifying and pursuing the deal himself.

So you are saying that the club's transfer business has been delayed because its head of recruitment, announced in May, has not in fact started work for the club? That would be extraordinary even in Charlton terms. It also presupposes that Russell Slade is dependent on that person's advice to identify targets, which I doubt. It's a subordinate role.

Thinking back wasn't the HOR's appointment only announced because it had already been leaked on twitter by some trouble making fanzine editor : - )
Once his name was out there they then felt obliged to announce it on the OS but not it seems to get a contract signed.
Not as if the CEO has any legal background so would know about contracts.
Novak, Holmes and Ajose would have been on most informed watchers lists including Wilder's , Lawrences' and Head's so no surprise we approached them as well as Moncur.
The point is relatively minor in the scheme of things but is just another example of how this club management team tries to wing everything as they don't really know what they are doing.
Remember Wilder was the man who was going to change it all "Everything starts again at 10.30 on Wednesday" was the mantra from Meire and Cahones referring to the Wilder press conference.
They really believed Wilder's appointment would change everyone's mind and wipe clean the slate for the previous 2 and half years. Then he didn't come. Slade is very much their second choice.
Not that I'm unhappy about Slade. I think he is the steady hand we need and given the right backing and a bit of luck will do well for us.
But backing him means signing up his HOR and his assistant ASAP not messing about for 6 weeks.

Against the Russians, one, me. Against Macabi about 7, although only me from the UK. Got team sheets from the games plus one entrance ticket. The second game was free entry.

We are probably stalling on signing a goalkeeper till Meire has convinced Slade that the keeper doesn't necessarily have to be from a footballing background. Instead think about a new, cheaper, outside the box idea such as a keeper from another sport like hockey, or handball for example.

Henderson, Dimitri, and Pope going, and Phillips departure apparently on hold. Two weeks to the start of the season. Katrien says this is a fresh start and a new beginning. Slade reminds us Charlton are a 'business', Murray intimates mistakes won't be repeated, and last season finished over two months ago. Goalkeeper importance is underestimated generally, but forgive me if I say I think this apparent laissez-faire attitude to our goalkeeping situation is alarming. With two weeks to go Slade has been thrown some crumbs whilst a lot of players have left, he has managed the re painting of the training ground changing rooms and made sure there are tablecloths in the portakabin dining room at Sparrows Lane and pleasantly trotted out predictable platitudes. The Austrian trip was supposed to be seminal, but looked like a minor distraction with mostly fringe players. This generations Frimping, or Vaz Te, or whoever will be other make do and mend signings like Foley or Crofts (probably spun into world beaters by the agents that have Katrieñs ear). This 'mistake free fresh start' is beginning to look oh so familiar, and once again if it all goes wrong for an unsupported Slade he will be blamed and sacked, and supporters blamed too. What is clear is that serious signings are urgently (as in today?) needed and the only protection to be had is win after win after win. I would like to be wrong, but I have written reasons for my doom and gloom. It is not too late to get a serious grip on next season, but I am beginning to believe what others have suggested, that our gamble is that other teams are worse than us, because we don't seem to be making certain that we will be better.
It may be that Phillips impresses enough in training and the friendlies to become No1, or to be thought of as a No2. We need to sign an experienced keeper, decide which of Mitov and Phillips is to compete with that keeper and then loan out the other.
Trouble is I think it wouldn't be great for Phillips' development to be sitting on the bench now... The problem is I think Mitov is getting to the age where sitting on the bench and playing U21s isnt good for his development so a loan would benefit him
Yet Beeney probably isn't ready to be thrown into action if X Goalkeeper was to sign and get injured

So basically Mitov is Number Two Goalkeeper this season... Just depends if Phillips is our first choice or on loan.
Would rather send Mitov on loan than Phillips
Not necessary, it mention that Price was going to be back up prior to going Rotherham so hopefully they know we need to GK bought in.
But then they didnt expect to sell Nick Pope... I really dont think Burnley persisting with that transfer was expected
That is what I mean, if they wanted Price to be back up for Pope then surely they know Phillips and Mitov should not be on the bench and that we need 2 GKs to come in.
Leiws Price is sort of a poor man's Stuart Taylor .
Apart from a spell at Ipswich he seems to be a professional number 2 . He probably prefers bench sitting at Rotherham than playing for a club as a number 1.

yeah ok
What are you implying, CS ?

Can the museum have a couple of copies of the teamsheets please?
It certainly hasn't helped
