Long ball merchants like every else in this league next season. Central midfielders will be required to run box to box and win 2nd balls for 90 minutes. He'll be exactly what we need.

    £1.5m apparently.
  • I've been a big fan of him since his Bournemouth days, solid championship player imo.

If true, and i am incredibly sceptical that 1.5m would be up front, if it totals that at all, then that is a signal of intent in my opinion.

There is no way an owner either selling the club, or happy to spin wheels in League 1, spends that on one player

Three more players before the end of august.
  • I don't think we'll see any more signings before Saturday, but I hope we get another 2 or 3 in before the end of August

I beg to differ, why spend that money if we get it? He could have signed a central defender on a free, and pocketed the money from selling those three if he really wanted to.

Besides, like I have said before I seriously doubt we'll be selling all 3.

Problem is though that Slade has backed them into a corner by fighting his corner and insisting on not just numbers but the players he wants. If they don't then there is the danger of him walking, spelling the beans and making KM position even more untenable than it already is. They really do have their backs to the wall and fair play to Russell for standing up to them.

Not that bothered if Tex goes now to be honest, we've got cover in place and he's allways injured anyway

Can't remember Tex being injured since he joined us.

    Always injured?

Tex has been with us 8 months and the injury I can recall has been the niggle that's kept him out for the last couple of weeks (or is he wrapped in cotton wool and transfer ready?)

Texeira's a good player and obviously ideally he'd be a perfect partner for Pearce. But if he does go we have Lennon, Johnson and Bauer. 4 good options for this level, with Konsa as cover for injuries.

Obvs if you could pick 4 senior centre-halves to stay from that lot you'd go Pearce, Tex, Bauer and Lennon.

Plus Diarra who can cover CB. If we could have swapped Johnson for Buxton as RB/CB cover than I would be very happy with our defence.

Slade seems to be quite impressed with how Johnson has applied himself in pre-season. If he genuinely has knuckled down and got himself fit, then he should be up to the required standard to do, at least, okay in League 1. There was, after all, a time in his career when he was a very decent Premier League defender. His leadership style may be a bit Vietnam drill sergeant, but I don't think there is necessarily any harm in having someone like that on the pitch. It might be a short term thing, but it did seem to have an impact on our fortunes (for the better) when he signed first time around.

I'd have been disappointed if it looked like he was going to be the main man at centre back, but with Pearce signing, Konsa emerging, and Bauer and Tex still, for the time being at least, at the club, not to mention young Lennon (who I personally expect good things from this year), we look to have very good options in central defence and we can hopefully use Johnson's experience to our advantage without having to rely heavily on him.

I live not far from Woking and a couple of their fans have been very complimentary about Thomas. Think him and Konza need to go on loan, lower L1 or L2 as DickP also rates Yao so could be emergency. Sure JJ could cover also. Could our skipper play up top if Novak not fit? Not about pace at this level.

Jackson at centre back or centre forward. I've heard it all now.

If his legs have gone he could play in goal

He couldn't have played either whilst he still had his legs.

Jackson up front as cover isn't a bad shout. He knows how to find the back of the net and think he'll pitch in with a few this season.

Not a rumour but i would like to see us go in for Jed Wallace. Good creative player and shouldn't be out of price range. With Wolves new owners he may not be fancied there.
