Trying to remain calm & take the long view, 'its a marathon and not a sprint' an stuff. But its not working, i'm frustrated an depressed.

Have seen the Bromley, Leyton Orient and Ipswich games. No game plan, no energy, (excepting Holmes) NO MIDFIELD, no quality. Crofts & Foley so far look squad players at best.

Even my dog can see we have no midfield. So surely RS can. Come on Russel, persuade nightmire to invest say £300/500k on an attacking central midfielder.

Agreed. I think what questions or objection there were to bringing in Crofts and Foley were not so much that they were terrible signings, but that they were at best squad players who seem very limited. And yet, they have featured as a CM pairing in most of our pre-season matches and our first competitive match of the year. Every club has a budget, I'm going to go way out on a limb and suggest that ours is far too low for what our ambitions should be, but I fear that Foley and Crofts' wages are eating into a decent chunk of that budget.

think Russ needs to stop all this 'two in the next 72 hours' and 'one in by Tuesday' stuff as it is making him look a tit. Hasn't he realised he isn't working at a proper football club now.

Agree. I guess he's asked the question and wants to be as open with fans as possible. Trouble is, that's not how CAFC works any more.
  • Thompson played for a Norwich eleven v Colchester today so either it isn't him or it has fallen through

It will probably end up being Oscar Gobern.

I saw an article a few days back saying the Norwich player we were after was Youssouf Mulumbu not Louis Thompson. Probably nonsense though.

I'd be very surprised if we could secure him, seeing that he's spent the last 6 years in the PL

Brighton accept £7 million bid from Burnley for Dale Stephens.

Hope we've got a good sell on!

I would not disagree, but quality is always welcome. What we don't know is the other options - if any!

Yeah I'm not overly keen on us signing another defensive midfielder, despite being a former (shite) defensive midfielder and loving a good holding midfielder. We still have Diarra to come back at some point, and then Kashi probably turn of the year. When everyone is fit they and Lookman are by far are the most gifted players in the squad.

That said, I'm kind of at the point where beggars can't be choosers. We need numbers. Even Thompson, who is more box-to-box but doesn't seem a natural creator or goalscorer would be welcome. Same with Gobern, who at least has an eye for a pass, even if I'm not certain he's anywhere near fit.

£7m...how much did we sell him for?
  • 700k. He only had 6 months on his contract left and wanted to go back north

Burnley must be gutted he didn't hang around at Charlton and they could have got him for a quarter of the price
TJ will be somewhere in the world saying "I told you so " in reference to him holding out for £2m when Villa came knocking for Dale

Only problem with your opening paragraph is that the three mentioned players will not start 40 games between them this season.

Was it really that much? (Serious question). Officially it was undisclosed, can't remember the rumours at the time).
