  • @Davo55 I would say my ex-wife fully deserves the charlton season tickets as she was instrumental in making me buy them.

she was right, we support our local team and this will live with Roo for the rest of his life, the tension between the support and the protests.

As I haven't bought season tickets for the upcoming year, she is threatening to take him to west ham instead on her weekends. It's the most compelling reason for me to consider season tickets but I am holding out.

Ultimately though if it comes down to him being a happy hammer or me buying Season tickets for charlton, I know I will cave in.

Even with Roland tight fist and his bizarrely incompetent crew

Yes 1993. I was one of the few to witness Mark Robson sent off

Where you there? No i don't think so. Because you didn't see this but you wished it was this way. Stop being against the players. They truly don't deserve it.

    Just seen this.

What makes you think I 'wished it was this way'?
Where is the statement against the players?

Maybe what the players truly deserve is better agents.

    My approval isn't relevant.

Yes it is. We will all need to work together to get our club back to the way it was.
I virtually worshipped Carlo as a player, and your enthusiastic messages at time when you are looking after players are nice. You may think it is personal, but it isn't Tracey.

It is because the hurt runs so deep.

I really believe that because I am who I am, and especially because I am an older supporter (albeit one who frequently brings much younger supporters to matches) that those at Charlton look on me as an anachronistic joke who would be much better staying away, and I am afraid I can't easily distinguish the good guys at the club from the bad guys.

How on earth can we all work together to bring the club back to the way it was though?

I have reluctantly given up my season ticket after 45 consecutive years, do you think that comes easy? ironically last season a phrase you just used 'work together' was kind of used to get us to buy season tickets. Work together to build a better tomorrow was the essence of the message.

Do you think any working together happened, is today better?

In terms of contributions. Ask Carl if he remembers the little tins of Tiger Balm that I used to supply free to Jimmy Hendry the then physio? If I remember rightly Carlo used to apply some to his head as it sharpened the senses and cleared the sinuses. Indeed not long afterwards Partick Viera and other players used to take to the field with the fronts of their shirts plastered with Vic's so the strong menthol smell would keep them alert. I mention this as one instance where I would go out of my way to try to contribute to the club I love. There have been others.

How on earth can anybody working at Charlton Athletic reach out to me in order for us to get our club back?

And I am just me, look at the lapsed season ticket thread and you will see plenty of others not dissimilar.

You questioned whether Tracy could say people had a "lovely time". I told you someone did. Me.

Do you think I shouldn't be allowed to have a lovely time?

Or are you the ONLY one allowed to?
  • Just realised, where is RCC? Charles Cook? He played a few times last season but not pre season. Injured/sold or something else. With a lack of wingers he will be needed. Also, why is Lapsie not playing, I thought he had recently signed a contract?

I have not suggested you shouldn't be allowed a lovely time, quote me where I have said that.

Quote me where I have said I am the only one allowed to have a lovely time too.

I questioned whether it was an opinion or measured against some kind of objective criteria...read back.

At the Telegraph Conference Katrien Meire questioned the opinion that Charlton is badly run. She challenged that an opinion be more robust than a mere declaration and I am doing the same.

That you had a lovely time adds some credence to Tracey's opinion, but I wouldn't call it scientific analysis just yet, I'll wait until the questionnaires are analysed and Katrien presents them in a powerpoint.

    OK. Turn it around.

Why didn't you ask Tracy how many people COMPLAINED about the event?

I'm sure there must have been some, according to your criteria.

Especially as the players were late.

How many moaned that they didn't have enough time with their favourite player? Or were refused a photo. Who were sworn at?

If the players were so bored, and considering most professional athlete's egos, surely some of the over 100 people there must have been disappointed?

Or, maybe, not everyone is as cynical as you.

A description, I hasten to add, you used about yourself...
  • At least we agree about my cynicism.

The players were late? Maybe that irritated some people I don't know I wasn't there, neither was Roger Johnson by the sound of it.

Probably would have been dragged by my son to the players meet if we weren't on holiday. He hates the owners and protested at every opportunity last season, but he continues to be Charlton mad for the moment and loves Solly, Jackson, Fox and a few others, hopefully he can hang in there till these idiot owners move on. Must be a tough job trying to keep things ticking over at the club with normal things when majority of fans are at war with the owners. They're ruining it for everyone that cares about Charlton on both sides of the fence.

Where a laughing stock and now we are just completely f*cked. That's it. The end.

At the hands of .....the richest owner we've ever had? what?

So so very strange it's scary.

How could any club not have at least a bit if a solid starting 11 (against a shit Dutch team) in the final pre season game before the new season starts?!

    Just incredibly arrogant/foolish.

    It stinks.

I believe Charltons 16/17 season will rank as possibly Charltons 2nd worst season ever.

(Last season will take some beating)

The question about tex, it sounded like tessara, I didn't get it at first either.

When asked about transfers, Ho looked up towards the directors box twice. Don't know why or what this means but it was the only two times he looked up there

He was looking out for the sniper KM brought there in case he says the wrong thing.
KM had covered this from every angle.
And I thought I'd dodged a bullet by giving Saturday a wide birth!
  • I'll have two tins of Tiger Balm if you've still some spare, cheers Seth
  • I have run out. Next time I go to China. Incidentally it is not a balm with any animal product despite its name.
  • "We're all in this together" etc etc from club employees rings a little hollow when their boss clearly wants very different things for this football club than the vast, vast majority of supporters.

    "It's not a defeat"

Bit the bullit and watched the interview.

So if we lose on a penalty shoot out in a competition this season, we can expect to be in the next round. Penalty shoot outs obviously don't count in Russell's world. He's even lying himself now. If you can't beat them Russ....join them .
As I understand it, a game lost or won on penalties counts as a draw in the club's or country's stats. The penalties are there to decide who goes through to the next round, wins promotion, or whatever the prize is. Happy to be corrected if my interpretation of the rules is incorrect.
  • I was not aware of the meet and greet initiative until after the game, I am sure my son would be have been delighted to be involved.

How was the event publicised? I do not use Twitter, I occasionally visit the club official site...

Last couple of years I bought the season tickets but had them sent to the ex-wife's address, do I need to update my contact details with the club and if so anyone any ideas how?

We may not turn up to everything but it would be nice to know what is going on in case we are available as Roo still loves Charlton.

Doesn't that equate to 'Support the régime, not the team'?

I think all the more embarrassing was the players meet and greet footage pushed out by the media team after the game. Genuinely more players that fans there by about 2:1

Still at least next season those that don't agree with the protests can sit there without being disturbed... By anyone.

Totally not true. Queues were out the door and it was a really successful and lovely time.
Staff worked really hard to organise this event (including me who organises the Player Appearances) so please don't undermine the hard work we do and plan to continue doing this season.

I am pleased for you that you feel so positive.

Yes there is a but, a however.

Do you accept that is simply your individual opinion that the event was 'successful', or is there some kind of criteria against which success can be measured?

Do you accept that is simply your individual opinion that the event was a 'lovely time' for people, or is there some kind of criteria against which the loveliness of the time can be measured?

Do you accept that for anybody to say they have 'worked hard' rings hollow if they say it about themselves?

I imagine the players continually pestered you to be allowed to be at this event with people who pay their wages, were checking when they ought to be there, were rivals with each other to be first in the queue, didn't need reminding, had creative and imaginative ideas to enhance things, and barely needed any 'organising' at all, and plan to do the same after every home match without even being asked because they care about the fans so much.

    Am I right about this?

No way could it have been reluctant and bored players forcing a smile whilst looking at their watches and phones, sitting at a table whilst people queued for selfies and autographs, no way could it have been that, because it wouldn't have taken any hard work at all.
I think you're having a dig at Tracey but I have to admit I'm not able to fathom the true meaning of this post.
  • What frustrated me is what seems to me the box ticking nature of this event.
Nothing personal to Tracey, somebody had to coordinate it I suppose, but such an event will be spun as how great things are at Charlton these days, by the regime as a whole rather than Tracey as an individual.
  • Don't bother with the meet and greet and they'd be lambasted for having something to hide, gagging the players, alienating the next generation of fans even more etc. etc.

Jose Mourhino would certainly agree with you!

    Jose Mourinho Quotes:
“I want to give my congratulations to them because they won. But we were the best team. We didn’t lose the game. Ninety minutes was a draw and it was a draw after two hours. We lost on penalties.” – On losing to Charlton in the Carling Cup – October 2005
