Ok I wasn't gonna bother but my fighting arts CV just for you.
37 years as a traditional Martial Artist and still training. I've been teaching for 26 years, some of my students are from the elite armed forces and also serving police officers. We use the traditional Wado Ryu, system, incidentally this is a mixed martial art. And we work with knives and various weapons, as well. Ive been running my own club since 1997. Taught a regiment of the British Army, pre deployment. Great fun, because they are going to a potential war zone, as an instructor, I dont have to teach 'reasonable force'. Worked with many MA's from around the world, at many Masters Seminars, I have been lucky enough to train with some of the original Japanese instructors and also MA's from many countries around the world, if you want to know the Czech Police are the hardest fuckers I've worked with. On the Combat Arts side (not Martial Arts) I fought up to and including European level until I retired at 30, I've taught and graded and worked with 6 World Champions and my association is producing some fine fighters, again who have gone on to become junior and senior World Champions. My club and association has produced countless top quality traditional Martial Artist Black Belts over the years. Oh yes I boxed a bit when I was a kid and did OK at Judo.
The above does not make me a hard bastard or such shite, there are many good people with excellent MA pedigrees around, most are good, well balanced people just passing on the knowledge. And the last thing I want to do is have a 'fight' with anyone, I'll do my best to avoid a row, but I know what Im talking about, Ive dedicated my life to it since I was 16.
MMA is not a Martial Art, because it has rules, real fighting does not have rules, combat sports do. UFC (a better name) is a great combat sport as is boxing, but to call it a Martial Art is incorrect.
Yep thats right mate, I write some shite.
Impressive. Most impressive. But you are not a Jedi yet!
having only just decided to take up Kung Fu this year (hard work starting at 35 believe me, I'm more basil fawlty than I am Bruce Lee), I have to say it's a real buzz. The small things that I have picked up in the 8 months I've been doing it now have really helped me. If anyone is considering it, I would highly recommend it.
I'm lucky that my club have been very welcoming and I have a very good instructor, you do hear of some dodgy ones, but it gets a massive thumbs up from me

Is it win chun in SE London? Instructor JH?
No mate, mine is fuijian white crane. They have clubs all over London and the south east actually, I hadn't realised how big until I went for my first grading and explored the site etc.

No I've never done it just know a mate of a good mate runs one and is a good bloke so wondered if it was a coincidence.
I'd like to learn krav manga myself one day.
Just looked it up, looks proper intense
Krav Maga is a great fighting system and philosophy, as you say very intense and also very much based on military training. IMHO well worth seeking out a good club/instructor!

My brother gives private lessons in Krav if you are in Tunbridge wells area. He sold his club recently so just does the private tuition now.
I hate the term MMA, Mixed Martial Arts, its so far removed from Martial Arts its ridiculous. And wether you like it or not (7k most expensive seats unsold, nice straw clutch) it has captured the General Publics attention, they even had a piece on it on BBC Brekkie this morning, and its generated massive PPV income. Its one of the biggest/richest fight ever, the boxing world is a bit worried, and I love boxing.
How is it so far removed?
And it wasn't a straw clutch btw.
Because Martial Arts means the 'art of war' and as soon as you put rules in place it does not become a Martial Art. A Martial Art is not a sport. Also and perhaps more pertinent 'Martial Art' is not about fighting, dogs fight. It is a way of life, a dedicated lifestyle choice and training the mind is perhaps more important for a traditional Martial Artist, than just smashing the life out of something. I could go on, but will just say that its a Combat Sport, thats all.
Also you have two usernames.
Fuck me you don't half write some shite on here.
So war doesn't mean fighting now? Also you're writing as if MMA is trying to define itself as a martial art in it's own right, which it isn't. It is just as simple as a mixture of all different martial arts (plus other non martial arts). Sure the name isn't exactly spot on but that's just the way the sport has evolved.
And I have no idea what you mean by two usernames.

Impressive skill set Greenie. Now we know how you manage to fart on every step on the way upstairs

A lot of people see Krav Maga as a fad with a lot of gimmicks like head buts and low blows. A martial art which has proven itself countless times for decades is BJJ. Would be a good one to try if you're already half decent at stand up.

Pretty much all 'martial' arts, as individual disciplines, have been proved to be of little use in MMA bouts.
Agree re BJJ. A very good discipline to learn and one that will beat most others in actual fisticuff scenarios.
Brazillain Ju Jitsu. It's the second most popular sport in Brazil, take that beach volleyball!
MMA is like a decathlon. You can have your strengths but you have to be decent at various disciplines. Roy Nelson who throws bombs and knocks people out, and probably has one of the best chins in combat sport, has a black belt in BJJ!
I know very little about MMA, but I watched some early UFCs and really liked the Gracie family, who were BJJ experts. Seems to have the right mix of fighting, take downs and submission holds. Is MMA a style in its own right now?

There's a Gracies gym opened near London bridge mate. Pricey but looks epic

Not really. Although some places do MMA lessons, proper MMA gyms (I love the term ) will have a boxing, Muay Thai, wrestling and BJJ coaches.

TBf more and more fighters now class themselves as an MMA fighter rather than being a Muay Thai/BJJ etc specialist.
I'm not too well-versed in the relative merits and demerits of individual martial arts, but having played Tekken 3 until my fingers bled, my unofficial, non-scientific opinion is that Eddy Gordo was a cunt, so BJJ is the way to go. You're welcome.

Imagine the surprise of McGregor's fans when the fighter of 0 wins from 0 fights and 3 losses from 24 MMA fights, gets outboxed by a boxer who is unbeaten from 49 fights.
