Ran the Stockholm parkrun on Saturday morning...beautiful location, 2 laps of a park...lots of little uphills that tested the legs...rewarded with a long, sweeping downhill (that really served to highlight how much we'd climbed...). Chilly, bit slippy underfoot in places but Stockholm has remained a mild 0-5 degrees and no snow, so great fun. Hangover and an agreement to 'just get round' meant no trees were pulled up and my PB was not under any threat, but brilliant, brilliant fun and set me up for the Stockholm craft beer fest in the afternoon.... Just signed up for the London 10km in July and then aiming for a marathon at some point this year, to celebrate the half hundred birthday...wish I'd done this years ago...
I forgot to post this at the time but when I met a mutual friend at the WBA game he informed me that @Riviera has now completed 50 Park Runs!
Congratulations to him given that by his own admission he wasn't the fittest when he started out.
That's fantastic! It's a very easy habit to slip into (although I had a stinker of a cold on Saturday so didn't bother, and notice the weather forecast is dreadful for next weekend...)

That sounds great. I'd like to spread my parkrun wings a bit this year - Parkrun Netherlands is starting next month.
Marshalling the kids in Eltham on Sunday made me feel a bit jealous - I hated all forms of exercise at school and that lasted for years and years, but I wonder if things would be different if we had junior parkrun in my day... even the really little kids just stomping around in the mud were loving it.
I loved all sport at school @InspectorSands ...apart from running...typical....my son is volunteering at Danson at the moment and will start running it in a few weeks time...I'm giving him no choice..
I'm in Berlin at the end of Feb and so plan to do that one too if I can....was gutted there wasn't one in NYC when I was last there...
A very windy 22:50 on the coast. Hoping to dip under 22 after a solid week of marathon training - 25 miles with 3000+ feet of climb. Maybe next week. Hope everyone got on ok.
A steady slog around the common, accosted by 2x separate AFC Wimbledon supporters, the second one passed me a leaflet about some bond which I forgot about so is now swirling around the washing machine He also asked if they could have a Taylor back lols
Did the Danson run today. 2nd week in a row after doing it twice in about 5 years! About 35 seconds quicker than last week and plenty left in the tank. Really enjoying the running at the moment after a year of horrible back problems. Having said that the last time I ran consistently was almost 6 years ago!
Got the all clear to start running again from the surgeon who fixed my torn meniscus in the week so did my first parkrun in 14 months this morning, was aiming to just get round in one piece hopefully under 40 minutes so was pleasantly surprised with 33 minutes and only walking once, got a feeling I will ache tomorrow but the knee held up so happy with that. Was around the 28/29 minute mark before the injury so a way to go yet but was good to be out running again.
On week two of couch to 5K but really struggling with sore shins.
On Thursday had to give up after third rep, and tried to run today and again shins really painful after just a minute of running.
Is it because I have not stretched calves enough, or do I need to maybe get more specialised trainers - get my gait looked at possibly or is that too advanced ?
I feel I shuffle fast rather than run - maybe not picking knees up enough ?

Hoping to do the Danson Park run in early March. What are conditions like at this time of year?
There is one section through the woods near the end of the lap that is pretty boggy so you have to slow down and watch your footing. Also at the start where you're running on the grass with how busy it is. Rest if it is pathway so good conditions.
I’ve recently started running in the new year, mostly to lose weight, moving more and eating less has helped lose a stone already. I am really enjoying running more than I thought I would but feel I hit walls at times when trying to increase distances. To start I was just going a mile as even that was a big achievement, now I’m up to 2.5 miles I feel stuck at that distance. Do I just need to push through the pain barrier to go that extra distance? I really am a newbie in running so any advice is appreciated. My goal is to do a 5k park run and eventually a half marathon by the end of the year. I try to go out running at least 3 times a week.
1. Run 1.5 miles at normal pace, introduce a 2 min walk, then run another 1.5 miles. That will get you over the hurdle of increasing your current max distance
2. Just run one noticeably slower and concentrate on getting your breathing right
3. Keep mixing up routes. When I was increasing distance I set out routes that led me to near I wanted to finish at 75% of the distance. Gave me mental comfort that if I weren’t feeling it or struggling I could cut it short. I rarely did though as it was more a psychological thing
Good luck. By staying consistent you’ll soon nudge it up. Get yourself down your local Parkrun, it’s full of people who walk / run and by being around others will assist and inspire you I promise.

There are a few people trying to start a parkrun in Swanley but they are struggling to recruit volunteers...

How many times do you all run a week?
