Great result - Still not 100% in our own hands but would rather have the points on the board at this stage of the season than be in Plymouth's position. As said above it looks like the pressure is getting to them - Never did think they were all that just had a bit of form for a few months can easily see them falling away.
Not true, two wins guarantee play offs
Not trying to piss on bonfires but that's not 100% accurate; It all comes down to the result of Plymouth/Scunny match - if they draw that one and all three teams win all remaining games it comes down to goal difference - we have 4 higher than Plymouth at the moment and 4 worse than Scunny. I actually think a Plymouth win is worst case scenario for us and Scunny win is best.
So even if we win both games against Blackburn and Shrewsbury... if Scunthorpe beat MK Dons and Bradford & Plymouth beat Rochdale, Rotherham and Gillingham by two goals in each game and then Scunthorpe and Plymouth draw, we miss out on goal difference?
Might be worth a sixfold 50p acca.
Depends on the results... If we all win our remaining games 1-0 with Scunthorpe v Plymouth ending in a draw then we get 6th as we've a better Goal Difference than Plymouth
What'll help is if Rochdale beat Plymouth and then win on Saturday (away @ Oxford), they could be safe and wont need anything when we visit on the final day
I think it’d be far more ‘Charlton’ to go into the last game of the season just needing to avoid defeat vs an already relegated Rochdale only to lose 1-0 and miss out on the playoffs. We don’t do our bit only to find someone did better against all odds, we fuck it up when it was in our own hands.
All this crap could have been avoided if we’d just turned up vs Scunthorpe. So frustrating, but, of course, as per the above paragraph, so predictably Charlton.

I said this before the game: 'I think Bowyer may have learned more during the two defeats than he did during the three wins and a draw. We looked like a different side against Shrewsbury, and I think Portsmouth may also find we’re learning how to win ugly when we have to. 1-2'
That'll do for me. Great win. I'm hoping we've put the poor performances well and truly behind us now.

Can see why you were exiled you miserable git ;-)
Oi, I was just musing on the possibility we might win all our games and still miss out. I’m an optimist and think we’ll get the job done and others will drop points. I thought we’d still make the top six even back in February. The fact I’ve been following us for nearly 30 years and I’m still optimistic is testiment to my general lack of miserableness!
I’ve just seen enough of us the know what our true nature is.
Blackburn and Shrewsbury both play midweek, Blackburn only need to match their result to go up (they'll be 7 clear with 2 to play).
Somebody said it's not 100% in our hands. It is. Scunthorpe have to play Plymouth, so one or both will drop points. If we win all our games then both can't over-take us.
It is not 100% in our hands. Plymouth draw with Scunthorpe, both win the rest of their games, Plymouth scoring loads, and they both overtake us.

Correct, apologies - forgot about the draw scenario

In the pub before and after the game with my Pompey supporting family and all their mates, they thought we had the best away support they'd seen all season and they also thought we'd win the play offs.
Proper away day. Atmosphere was just class. Every player won their individual battle all over the pitch. Amos save at the end was unbelievable - he was going one way, ball took a deflection and he stretched his arm out the opposite way to put it over.
I've dragged my lad to no end of shit away games in recent years. Finally he's experienced a proper decent one.
THIS.

Don't know where to start. Epic game with epic performances & epic support. I've been to a fair few games in 45 years supporting CAFC and this is up there in the top 3. We started off on the front foot & never looked back. Pompey weren't at the races 1st half but I knew ex-Millwall Jacket would fire them up the 2nd 45 but we stood firm...........like us supporters. Stood all game (you had to but we were right at the back so didn't affect anyone else) and sung all game. Don't think I've experienced an atmosphere like that - mostly because at crunch games we don't usually turn up - but Bowyer knows what is required.
As for the game. Can't pick a MOTM as they all put a shift in, and then some. If you twisted my arm I would have to say Amos, purely for THAT save. Kept them to 0 & so won us the game. The back 4 were immense - Bauer & Pearce won every header & Bauer put body into a few tackles as well. Time & time again I saw Pearce geeing up the players & giving them encouragement - sadly something that Solly just didn't do.
Midfield kept it simple & had willing runners in Ajose, Fosu & Marshall. My only criticism (and it is minor) is that we were a bit wasteful when in good positions & I wish they could put some decent studs in their boots - I lost count of the times they slipped over, especially Marshall. I know the pitch was watered but I don't recall many of their payers going over so many times. But I can't complain too much...........
You all know well enough to say that we still have 2 difficult games coming up, but even I was discussing with Golfie jnr about play-off permutations & who we could get & where we would be going. Suffice to say our next away trip is Rochdale. Never been there before so will be a new one for me.
Finally - having read what Bowyer said after the game about no losing over a 2-legged tie, I have to agree. Assuming we get into the play-offs (which must be 80/20 in our favour) then none of Shrews, Rotherham, Scunny or Plymouth have players to fear & none have deadly strikers. True that we don't have a Mendonca but none of the above have a Phillips - and not even a Grigg, Graham or Dack. Neither will there be a Marriott or a Pitman (not that he did much today), so I really do rate our chances if we can just get 4 more points.
Just off to some of the humble pie that I had left lying around in the fridge.
It's odd that we often bemoan our away numbers, but so often when we take a good crowd we get these 'best away fans of the season' type comments, even when we were in the Champ.
Took my nephew (Chelsea) today. He said it was one of the best games he had ever seen. Very noisy Charlton fans and great atmosphere. I am happy as a pig in....... Come on you REDS....!!!
To be honest I was absolutely certain we would not make the play-offs after Scunthorpe beat us so I don't care who we get in the play-offs now. I would imagine that the other teams in it would rather avoid us (if we make it which I think we will now) and that is how we should approach it from now on.
Cant get over the atmosphere....was just buzzing and rocking the whole 90 minutes! First time in a long time that i have been proud to be a Charlton fan!
Wasn’t there but wish I had been. Well done to all those that went and undoubtedly were the 12th man.
Bowyer has presided over a revitalisation of the club in a very short space of time and not just on the pitch.
Hope we can get a few boycotters back for Blackburn and help push the lads over the line. The Valley rocks when we are in the mood. Fuck Duchatelet for this one game and show the prospective new owners exactly what Charlton is all about.
