Great to see the goal again, as we saw very little of it from the other end!
Very direct, goalkick, header by Josh and a poacher’s finish by Ajose, great that we mixed it up more
I said to Golfie Jnr on the way home that we were a lot more direct today. Not much passing around the back & good to see that the goal came from a long punt downfield. Just shows you don't need 20 passes to score you a goal.
Amazing day out, superb atmosphere and a fantastic result.
I'm glad that we are sharing a division with Pompey again, Fratton Park away days have always been one of my favourite footballing days out. They really get behind their team down there, but I think today, we put them to shame, both on the terraces and on the pitch.
The first half we dominated and it seemed that they were struggling to get going. I don't know how much was down to us putting them under pressure or that they were just having a bit of an off day. We definitely deserved to go into half time a goal ahead, and I don't think there was a single Charlton fan there that wasn't pleased it was Ajose who got the goal. He's worked his socks off since coming back into the team so it's been coming.
Second half they really went for it, but our defenders were too good for them, and even when they did manage to get a ball through Amos was all over it. I found the last 20 mins really stressful. It's such an important game and at 1-0 they always had a chance of getting back into it, and the longer it went on, the more they pressed, but I think overall our players handled it brilliantly.
Two more to go, we gotta keep winning and keep everything crossed!
Not really much left to add really, superb atmosphere and brilliant battling effort by the lads. Random thoughts:
- Portsmouth were pretty one dimensional. I said it before the game, if we nullify Pitman we'll be in a good place and Pearce did so magnificently. Superb by him today.
- Ajose deserved his goal, ran the channels well and took his chance. Russell Slade is sitting somewhere thinking 'I told you so' over the Magennis/Ajose link up.
- JFC is so vital to how we play. Can break up play, surge forward and pick a pass; definitely the sort of player who will be able to play a division up (fingers crossed!). His set pieces are dangerous too, something we've lacked for a while.
- Marshall did an excellent job when he came on. Doesn't have the tricky feet of Fosu but gave us an outlet and linked intelligently with Da Silva late on. Good effort by him.
-Bowyer got his team selection spot on. Djiksteel could easily have been fazed by the crowd and Mavididi doesn't have the industrious defensive efforts of Ajose.
Fans were superb from twenty minutes before kick off to thirty minutes after. Didn't hear much from the home sections.
Great win to build on the midweek result, didn't see that coming after the Scunthorpe game. Looks like great scenes at the game too, think Charlton fans deserve a bit of that.
Watched on iFollow. Well worth staying up for and now the clocks have changed able to get to bed just after 2am. Superb support, great team effort and how refreshing are Lee Bowyers post match comments. Took a while to get off to sleep, still buzzing Sunday morning.
My 23 year old son went today and only just got back. He just fell through the front door singing Valley floyd road absolutely slaughtered with a broken voice. That’s what it’s all about aint it?
Unlike last season, I've not had a great record at away games this year. It's been two losses and a draw so let's hope this is the day I break my duck. We know we have the players to win this but have they recovered enough from Tuesday's exertions?
Don't worry I have us all covered today. I've took the missus with me to this one and making a weekend out of it, she hasn't seen Charlton lose yet, fantastic record.
Pretty tempted to drag her along to Blackburn as well at this point.
Great day out and up there as one of my favourite Charlton days. Absolutely superb support and every player did their part. Hard to pick a man of the match but it would have to go to Amos, can't stress how much we need this man signed up next season. Fantastic saves and really steadied the ship towards the end with some class saves. JFC a big contender for man of the match as well, I think he's been excellent for a few games now and is our key player.
Special mention to Pearcey for shutting out that twat Pitman, what a moany div he was, tried to rattle 3 of our players and wouldn't stop complaining to the ref.
It isn't over yet but it's massive for us that Scunthorpe and Plymouth have to play eachother, I think we will just about make it cause of this and I don't fear anyone in the play offs.
Massive win been out since 3.30pm for a mates (Man Utd fan) wife’s 52nd , we went up town and his 17 year old son had gone down to Pompey with a Charlton mate and I’m working on brainwashing him , he’s Man Utd but with massive leanings to our freak show.
I’ve fancied us to make the play off final since I worked out the amount of agro it will cause me cancelling and re jiggling flights to barbados during half term for the final .
Fuck that who cares the reds are going up E I e I e i o up the football league we go
Have no idea about the game and don’t care the result was massive
Absolutely knackered after a 21 hour door to door journey, following the match was the only thing keeping me awake. I was dreading the last minute goal that was our Achilles heel under Robinson!
So annoying we couldn't have taken a point last Saturday as a two point difference in the gap to Scunthorpe would have made that table look so much better.

What a day Most of my thoughts been covered already. I haven't seen a Charlton team battle like that live, from the first whistle, in many many years. I haven't heard supporters back their team as well as that , singing non stop from well before the game to well after the game , anywhere ever. I didn't hear one negative comment about Charlton from our fans all day. Proud of both team and fans. If we can all keep that up, play offs and promotion will be much more likely.
Lastly - Amos was fantastic today. It was one of those days you just got the feeling nothing was going to get passed him. Commanded his box well, controlled his defence well, got behind anything on target easily, and that save from the deflected free kick was world class. Best display from a Charlton keeper since Scott Carson days.
I think we'll end up sixth and so get Shrewsbury. Not wishing to tempt fate but they appear to have peaked so I'd hope we'd get through to Wember-ley. Neither Rotherham nor Scunthorpe should hold any fears in a one-off with our youngsters properly rested and half the ground full of Addicks.

I noticed that at Shrewsbury too - we are passing -we are a passing team, but we seems to have cut out extra nothing passes and make more braver ones where they matter.
There’s times where you don’t want to talk/think about charlton at all. Today all I want to do is think and talk about yesterday to anyone that will listen. What a win

This was the sort of away day that will still be talked about in years to come. It was perfect in every sense.
They just need some "re-education", gulag style.
Reckon 3 more points and we'll be in the playoffs...
