To be fair to England (and this is anything but an excuse for our inept batting at times) but Root's delivery and the one that Denly gloved suggests that this is not a Test wicket.

Genuinely think players have lost the ability to play test cricket. Most have given their wicket away and the one still out there is treating it like a 20:20

to me it seems obvious that they cant go from the shorter form of the game to Test cricket without it effecting the way they bat.

How do you not go from the short game to the long game when being centrally contracted almost totally stops you from playing the 4 day game anyway? The ECB will allow Root and Buttler, for example, to play in the Big Bash and the IPL but how many CC matches will they have to play for Yorks or Lancs?

Plenty of other internationals play t20 though and then score for their country.
Unfortunately the money is too appealing now to go play in those tournaments. But it’s not just England’s that do it

Root played 3 CC games in the whole of last season and was out all 6 times making just 95 in total. Pujara, by contrast, following his 3 hundreds in the recent series against Australia, has played two games in the Ranji Trophy in the last two weeks scoring 11 & 67* in one and 45 and 131* in the other. Therein lies the difference.
There was a fair amount of rain before this test started. Also there's a fair amount of grass on this wicket. Whoever batted first was going to struggle in the morning session and that was England. The wicket is looking less intimidating now and we are doing our best to get a competitive score. Fingers crossed we will.
