As I say, I'm enjoying him in our side and I don't want him to be sold, but he is very, very far from being a complete player

Taylor is much more complete. Bielik. Cullen. Williams. Bauer. Sarr. Aribo. JFC. All of these players have more of the attributes you'd hope for in their position than Grant does. Grant's importance is magnified by the fact we have nobody else to play in his position

Bielik and Cullen are down from Premier League sides so could argue have had better coaching than Grant else they wouldnt still be at Arsenal or West Ham
Taylor is eight years older so what do you expect; Williams is a Welsh International; Bauer is six years older; Sarr has got Champions League experience so of course those players will be at a more complete stage than Grant... End of the day you still have to acknowledge the fact that whilst Taylor is a more complete player (Your words) he's still got less League goals than Karlan

Exactly Owen earned his living from that, now I am not comparing the 2 and Owen had other qualities, but how many goals did he get from being in the right place at the right time, same as Defoe
Vetokele has been injured for almost the whole season, and unfit for all of it. Ajose doesn't quite have Grant's pace or presence but he wasn't the worst foil for Taylor on the rare occasions they played together. He's on loan in League Two now anyway. Grant has had little credible competition for his spot.

Slag off? I'm being completely level-headed. I said I liked him and wanted him to stay. I suppose your deliberately lukewarm review of Sarr's last performance was far more level headed?
He’s said the same about Lenglet, that CB at Napoli and other players that have since gone for big fees or made names for themselves in Europe.

Of course he's not a complete player, he's a 21 year old League 1 striker having his first good season at this level. Not only has he scored goals, he's also created them (6 assists according to statbank, and they're just the chances teammates have scored from). He has a good partnership with Taylor, something we haven't had up front in years. "Only" scoring 14 goals by January is far better than the majority of strikers we've had in this league.
For me he has more potential than someone like BWP or Ajose, who are purely poachers. Grant is has that and more with room to improve further. He's an attacking player with pace and skill, players like that don't tend to have great decision making or an all round game. If he did he'd have left us years ago.
Centre backs and centre mids on the other hand need to have decision making as one of their strengths. A fairer comparison for Grant would be with Fosu, who also needs to improve in that area and isn't having as good a season as Grant.
On Taylor he's an experienced player who's worked his way up the leagues and developed into one of the best players in League 1. In his late teens/early twenties he was playing non-league football on loan with Eastbourne and Lewes.
Take off penalties and only look at goals from open play and Grant's our top scorer with 11. He probably isn't ready for the Championship yet but he's young enough to make the step up over the next few years.

I’m not suggesting he is the complete player, far from it! But there is nobody out there I don’t think who would gel as quickly with Taylor and score goals at the same rate as Karlan! Plus he’s one of our own so he should at least prove himself for the rest of the season with us!
Smyth is listed on TransferMarkt as a center forward or right winger. For all of their faults their positioning is usually pretty good.
If he is being brought in as a wide player or someone who can play wide, I wonder if it's as a replacement for Marshall or Clarke. Given it was queued up last week, it makes me think it's unlikely he is the one to be lined up as a replacement for Grant.

Still don't think he'll be leaving in this window. The media, managers & agents all know our situation.....know his situation & know that he has scored goals this season. The press are putting 2 & 2 together & his sgent is using it as leverage to get us to up his contract (which LB says they are currently negotiating). I still maintain that no Premiership side will buy a 3rd tier striker with just 1 good half season to his name......esp not for £2m when he is out of contract in the summer. Even a Championship side will have 2nd thoughts.

- I highly doubt Jan Siewert will refuse to sign him just because he hasn’t seen him play in person. That’s if he even gets a say in transfer matters. He will trust the opinion of his scouting network.
- There is no smoke without fire and numerous scouts have come to watch him over the past couple of weeks. This is not just a media story to get an improved contract offer from a club that clearly doesn’t offer improved contracts anyway. If I was a footballer and my agent was trying to squeeze money out of Roland, I would be sacking my agent for being so naive.
- Why wouldn’t a Premier League side stick a £2m punt on the table in this window? To the big boys, £2m is the kind of money you find down the back of the sofa. They will happily spend that kind of money to secure him now, knowing that he could be worth ten times that in a year from now.
Grant has done well this year so it's not surprising there's interest in him. 14 goals, young and plays for a club that will bite your hand off for any sort of transfer fee!
