We didn't deserve it but we got the 3 points. Having said that we had a couple of chances earlier that could/should have gone in. I thought Burton looked solid at the back and midfield but it was in front of goal that let them down. Mind you, if they had someone like Lyle Taylor up front they'd probably be in the top 6.
I can't put my finger on whether we were off because it was an off day or that Burton shut us down. Either way that was a real smash and grab win and that's football for you. A very satisfying 3 points.
An honoury mention to Jed Steer. I thought he was immense today.
The amount of times that’s happened to us over the last few years I think we deserved that today. So often we’re the side who can’t finish our chances and the other team takes advantage late on. It feels good to be on the winning side for once
Stuff the performance. Away, mid week, late November, oop north (just about) yet, for once, it's a case of job done. Happy days!
An important consolidating win with most teams around us winning.
Big Cullen/JFC shaped hole at the base of that diamond. Bielek demonstrating how there is a big difference between looking good on the ball at centre back and doing the same in midfield.
Evene rarer than a midweek away win - a striker on double figures before Christmas with Taylor not far behind. Delighted for Karlan, I knew there was a player in there and have defended him on here more than once in the past. Very satisfying to see him full of confidence and consistently doing the business in the first team.
How we won’t that game I do not know, I would go as far as saying that was one of the worst performances I have seen from a Charlton side in my 26 years of supporting them! We looked so disinterested! Fosu was absolutely shocking!
No disrespect to him but what summed it up for me was that bar one shank into the stand, I thought Naby was brilliant tonight! Solly also didn’t stop, all game had no protection from our diamond formation which we were lucky enough to win with this evening.
Good point about the diamond formation. It's entirely probable that Naby got more support from Aribo than Solly got from whoever was supposed to be on the right (Lapslie? Fosu?), making Solly more exposed to the man cutting inside
Winning when playing that badly is surely a sign of character/luck/promotability (delete as appropriate).
It must give Lee Bowyer very mixed emotions. 3 points in the bag; four wins on the spin; play that poorly against a more clinical side and we'll get thrashed.
Up there with the Rochdale game as one of the worst away performances - Burton bossed us from the off and was very impressed with Hesketh who caused problems all night for Sarr and Aribo.
Wasnt a fan of the commentators tonight on iFollow yet agreed with the fact the Liam Boyce should have changed it up a bit instead of attacking Solly the whole timw
As for us, as already mentioned its one of those wins that you get when your in a proper promotion battle, it still might be a place in the Play-Offs at best but think we'll be challenging for better prizes for longer and better positions in the Play-Offs come May
Tense, tense and more tense. However may I be the first to say I love Jason Pearce? The game could so easily have been lost, but if you're going to win 2-1 do it as late as that...ish. We were not totally fluent, in a similar vein to Saturday, and Burton were far better than Bristol Rovers, however we hung in there, faced goodness knows how many corners, and had about two ourselves. The referee gave a penalty following one of the first half corners, but I don't for the life of me know why. He seemed a twitchy referee, the slightest thing we did he gave a foul against us, but our blokes seemed to have to be fouled four times to get one free kick. In the general lack of fluidity in the game, individual moments stand out, and the best of those for us defensively was the second half block from Sarr. Looked a certain goal but he was fantastic. The best for us attacking wise was the goal Pearce bulleted in following our very rare corner. It might have been close range Jason, but I know, there is still a net to tear a hole in as well mate...I understand. We miss Cullen and Pratley a lot because Belik was as indifferent as he was on Saturday, he is better in defence in my opinion, but Pearce and Bauer are not going to be shifted if they stay fit. Solly was his usual self, experience called on when needed even though he is out of position, Aribo fits and starts, when he was good he was good, but not involved enough, Fosu was shut out yet again. Lapslie might have scored, but was thwarted like he was on Saturday, but was decent and well worth his place, Lyle a thorn in the side of Burton all evening, and Grant was more available than usual, pleased his less than convincing penalty went in, he was the bloke fouled and clearly took the decision away from Fosu, Taylor not that interested in taking that penalty. Steer had another very good game indeed, lots of tricky saves and shots on crowded situations when seeing the ball was awkward were well dealt with. Call it barely deserved, call it smash and grab, i don't care, I call it three juicy away points.
Surely the point of a diamond is that you only line up that way when you have the ball? Loose it and two banks of four with Taylor roaming. We shouldn't be getting overloaded wide.
Certain teams overload our full-backs and I'm not sure why we don't go to 3-5-2 to combat this, dropping Bielik back into RCB, with Solly and the LB out to RWB and LWB. A midfield 3 of Aribo, Lapslie and Fosu/Ward. It never happens, but it would make me less anxious.
Well played to the supporters there, loud and clear throughout.

Exactly. Burton dragged our midfield all over the place which left massive gaps out wide loss count amount of balls we let come into our box because of it
Really hard game to watch as thought we were woeful in the first half and just a bit better in the 2nd. Burton looked like the best side we’ve faced this season and they were quicker to the ball, quicker to move the ball and really exposed how narrow we were using all of the pitch. I’m scratching my head as to how we won that because on about 75 mins I was just hoping we wouldn’t get beat
The good was the defence. Pearce grew into the game and his goal said it all. I actually thought Solly equipped himself well as no disrespect to Lapslie who really worked hard and put himself about, wasn’t physical enough to halt a lot of the play coming down that side in the 2nd half. Ironically, a lot of their play was coming down our left in the 1st half. Sarr was okay, great challenge in the second half where he came across the box to block a shot. Bauer okay as well.
Burton proper pressed us which was uncomfortable, as however good Bauer and Pearce are as defenders, it’s uncomfortable viewing watching them to play square balls to one another, and our midfield not offering an outlet.
Lapslie has a good game, put himself about and had a similar chance to Saturday I thought he could of buried. Where he did struggle was keeping up with a lot of the play going down his flank as cover for Solly, but I feel that’s just his age and build.
The poor players for me tonight were Bielik and Fosu. Both went missing. Bielik uncomfortable on the ball and not used to not having more time. Fosu appalling imo and is looking a shadow of what we’ve seen from in the past. If I had my choice at the mo, Ward gets the nod every time. Aribo was also absent in the first half but did put a couple of good forward passes in the second half. Actually thought Taylor had quite an ineffective game but that’s the first I’ve seen from him this season. Grant okay but our midfield and forwards weren’t connecting so all looked a bit shabby to be honest.
A really hard game to summarise as we didn’t play well yet we’ve shown a very solid side in our defending and I can’t quite work out how Burton haven’t won that

Support was excellent!
Thank you for grear birthday present charlton

Haven’t danced like that on a terrace since Southend 92
Fucking love you Charlton
Not a great performance tonight midfield missing but winning scrappy is a good sign.
Back 5 did well and they had to as the midfield left them exposed and showed real dermination and character which is pleasing after last few seasons.
Went a bit more direct tonight which I assume because midfield could not get in the game.
Lucky to get 3 points but will take that.
We have shown we can play nice passing football but also dig it and win ugly. What’s not to like.
all the supporters who traveled . You made the 12th man .
Onwards and upwards 👍⚽
Come on you reds
But 3 points is 3 points, not going to complain.
Glad to hear about Nabby, despite his ability to make howlers there's something I really like about him.
And how many penalties have we had this season, we normally get one or two a season max.
Well done charlton fans, quality away support.
Burton did a job on us and will be fustrated, we had chances ourselfs, but best time to win it
