The 30-year-old ex-Premier League forward was among a group of first-team players told their time at Madejski Stadium was over by manager Jose Gomes.
He is the only member of the group involved in the club’s pre-season and newly-promoted Charlton Athletic showed interest in signing him.
However, the Chronicle understands Baldock told Reading FC he will not leave unless his wages are paid in full, casting serious doubts over a potential move to The Valley.
Baldock, who has two years remaining on his contract, was among a number of players handed significant salary packages while former chief executive Ron Gourlay was at the helm of the club.
Royals eased their financial problems yesterday (Monday) when they sold Liam Kelly to former boss Jaap Stam’s Feyenoord in a cut-price deal.
Gomes wants to sign up to four players this summer and remains keen on bringing Liverpool’s Ovie Ejaria back to Berkshire on loan.

It can only drag on to the 7th August because he'd need to sign on the 8th or be stuck there.

There is no loan window. You can only loan players up until the transfer window closes (8th Aug for Premier League and Championship) and 31st Aug for League 1 and 2. So we have to sign players on loan by 8th Aug.
I reckon Beliek wont sign for anyone before August 9th & then by the end of that month, after he realises (or Emery tells him) that he is surplus to requirements he will sign for a foreign team.
Dijksteel IMO is thee most underrated in the whole squad. How he splits opinion goes way over my head he’s a very modern attacking full back who I think will reach the PL one day no doubt. We should do whatever it takes to get another contract signed.

If you had a proper structure running the club you could have a proper policy.
Something a long the lines that any 1st choice player, under 30, must have 2 years on their contract at the start of the season. You don't sign, your on the list and you don't play. If they did that last summer BFG would have been sold, Grant and Aribo probably would have signed contracts. So would have the Sunderland player who's name escapes me.
It's not the solution and would need some proper thinking about but more the start of an idea.

Suspect that if he won't entertain a pay cut (you can't blame him) then maybe we get him on loan and agree to pay a % of his wages. Sounds like Reading might be happy with that, financially. And, subject to a successful loan spell and a potential takeover, we make him a permanent offer at a later date.

Almost equivalent to the shambles the FA have created by closing the English window on 8th August while the European (World?) window remains open until 31st. It almost certainly means that Bielik will go abroad, and ditto any decent loans. We will only get to choose from "those requiring experience" ie untried.

In all honesty yes. It's my view but I seriously hate player power. Players should feel privileged to play for big clubs and lead a luxury line of work. Players not working with the clubs that gave them a platform does my head in. Just look at the Neymar situation at PSG and Pogba at Man U. Players who act up like that should be sold. If I owned a club I would transfer list any player who was running down their contract, bring in a player who wants to play for the shirt and the fans.
The Aribo situation was different though, we are desperate and have a shite owner. If we were a stable club and players agents were trying to stiff us I would be getting rid.
But yes, hot shots with their dodgy agents would be getting moved on as quick as possible

It's a bit disingenuous to say that JA was 'running down his contract' when the one he was offered was quickly whipped away from him.......
Yeah it was definitely that simple.
I understood it to be Aribo's agent wasn't happy with the offer so the contract was spitefully withdrawn and a worse one put in its place. It was apparently a decent offer.
If thats true then I quite like that as a two fingers approach to the Agent
