Brilliant result and battling performance against a genuinely good side. Bamford is a turd. Would have been sent off if not takenoff. That said, am I the only person who saw Leko’s blatant stamp on their 5’s foot. Clear red card but the officials missed it. Lucky Leko. How we could end up with more bookings than them is a mystery. Onwards and upwards.
Old boy next to me had a fiver on Lockyer first scorer at 80-1. He was celebrating for five minutes until the announcement.
Thought Gallagher was MOTM for us and Sarr played some excellent stuff. We defended resolutely but couldn't keep the ball. Leko needs a footballing brain.
At the match. Proper backs to the wall performance for long periods but a totally deserved 3 points. Following our last two performances I was expecting the worse but in true Charlton style they produce a winning performance when least expected. Lockyer mom for me although everybody played their part. Bowyer really is a special manager long may he remain at the valley. Back into the top six and looking forward to Wednesday's game. Onwards and upwards. COYR.
Great defensive performance every player put in a real shift. Pratley was the stand-out for me. All the years I've supported us I have never known us miss an injured player like we miss Lyle.
No chance. He didn’t do anything wrong and made a couple of decent saves - he played well, but then again, so did pretty much everyone.
However, Gallagher and Lockyer were absolutely immense. MOM could only go to one of those two.
Phillips kicking was absolutely shocking. He licked it straight into touch 6 times, meaning Leeds came straight back at us. Twice he did not reach the half way line from a goal kick and on 2 other occasions he kicked it to the other side of the pitch from where our attack was waiting. How this cannot be ironed out I do not understand.
Leeds can play but they lack a striker. For all their, meaningless, possession stats they had few clear cut chances and the very sound Philips (Don't give a tuppenny toss about his distribution) saved those.
Back five were excellent, yes even Sarr. Solly didn't get beaten, Lockyer won so many headers, Purrington solid but my MOTM was Pratley. Dropped back to strengthen the back line early on and was everywhere. No wonder Bamford, who should have been sent off for it, kicked out at him.
Bonne and midfielders put in a shift. So did Leko who has so much ability just waiting to be focused.
I don't think there was one off side all game. I'm I right?
Leeds fans quietest I've ever heard them at the Valley.
Crowd of 21,808, albeit boosted by Leeds in the home and away stands, is great. We be interesting to see what we get for Swansea.
Bowyer did a job on Leeds, who are still dirty and cynical. The back three stopped them so much they matched us up second half.
17 points from the first nine game block and we have Taylor, Kayel, JFC, Matthews and Hemed (is he injured?) To come in.
I am sure the stats will say Leeds were all kinds of everything and for those fond of using the term on the basis of the stats Leeds 'deserved' something. Like Brentford did.
Errr no.
Charlton deserved to win because even at this level courage, resilience, work rate, belief and desire still counts. If you can add a little bit of skill, footballing intelligence and creativity to the effort you're always in with a chance. Perhaps Leeds were hampered by assumptions and complacency, perhaps hampered by arriving at 2pm(!), their fans too, the quietest I've ever (not) heard them, but those stats also say 1-0.
Yeah a scrambled goal, scruffy and untidy like Lee Bowyer was as a great Leeds player in a great Leeds side. I wonder if any Leeds fans of a certain age could recognise the spirit of Bowyer as a player in Charlton Athletic as a team? Talking of teams, clubs and resources, the bloke of theirs that dived, Costa, is on loan from Wolves and will seemingly sign in January for 15 million quid.
Fifteen million!
Sheesh you could assemble 20 Charlton teams for that money, but the stats today say 1-0. Doesn't add up.
Lets face it Leeds were damn good, them and Brentford are the best we've played so far in my view. Early on their clever around the box approach play always threatened, but our defending was far from seat of the pants. It was as if the players knew their exact role in the fluid intricacies of Leeds attacking and close interplay, and the blocks headers and clearances were much more the considered kind than the desperate kind. Fantastic set up by Bow and fantastic work from our players. A clean sheet says it all.
Immaculate performance from the referee-stalked Phillips, Solly was superb I thought, bringing every minute of experience to the game, Lockyer and Sarr were more than just stoppers, and Purrington was his usual 7. Who can't say that in the context of the game the midfield weren't outstanding, particularly in protecting the defence and water carrying unselfishly all over the shop? I wonder why Pratley seemed such a meh signing when he arrived he is a phenomenal asset to the team, Cullen is so consistently good it is ridiculous, and Gallagher was wonderful today especially in tracking back. Williams mercurial until his body gave up on him.
Leko bought us time and became an outlet especially early on when we needed a breather from all the Leeds pressure, and how about Bonne? Far more effective than Hemed has been so far, a scruffy sniffed scrambled strikers goal. Always willing and present, Bonne was outstanding. All three subs came on and contributed which was very nice to see. I thought the referee was pretty decent overall.
Then there were the fans. Us I suppose. We are becoming consistently very good, the Josh Cullen of fans, brilliant sustained support which in this day and age is rarer to see from fans at home than those who travel, indeed our fans are better away by a distance than the Leeds fans were (unusually) today.
Three valuable points at the start of a very tough week.
No chance. He didn’t do anything wrong and made a couple of decent saves - he played well, but then again, so did pretty much everyone.

After all this time you have found out why his distribution is so bad. He needs to start kicking it.
Another point Bow made on the radio was why can't all teams adhere to a Saturday / Tuesday format? That way recovery times would at least be equal to all. OK we have an extra day before the next game, but then we meet Fulham on Saturday at 12.00. Fulham will have played on the Tuesday and had the extra day to recover before the early start on Saturday.
It is disappointing we haven’t yet seen Kayal or the best of Hemed. However, I do like that they are by the tunnel each home game with their kids and talking to th crowd and the players. Looks like they are integrated into the squad and just need some games under their belts.
Gallacher is a precocious talent. Has skill, guile and a bit of an edge to him. Seems to be loving his time here.
This team is an absolute beast of a collective. Love how we defend our box and are willing to do whatever it takes to keep the ball out.
Bowyer made an early shift in formation putting Pratley into a back 3 which allowed Solly to push on. All Leeds early attacks were down that side and it gave us an opportunity to push them back.
Bamford should have seen red. Made a poor tackle on Gallacher then kicked out. Phillips committed four fouls in the first half and got nothing. Whilst I’m all for letting the game flow, it makes the likes of Lockyer’s booking all the more galling.
i agree with many comments re Lockyer and Gallacher for MOM. However, today I would be tempted to award it to Prately. Does a horrible job exceedingly well and is able to support the younger players we have.
proves stats mean f**k all Well done Lee bowyers red army
Ummmm, not really. The only stat that highly correlates with wins is shots on goal. And on that point we were close. In addition, stats in single matches have little bearing to outcome, so a bit of a straw man argument here. But stats over a season are highly correlated with table standing. Although it is more so in the PL and a bit less and less as you drop down the leagues.
Seems the more technical teams struggle against our pure grit and determination. There doesnt seem to be a plan b for those teams. We can play football and put the shift in to win ugly.
This team is so balanced its amazing! Another testament to the recruitment in the summer but we 100% makes players better.
Gallagher MOM without a shadow of a doubt, he was relentless when we were out of possession, chasing everything down. Whilst we had (albeit limited) possession he was playing crucial balls and making the runs. Really really impressed with him since he signed, although I’ve only seen him at home games as a caveat. Seeing as I travel from Manchester though think I can pass judgement!
First game I have watched on CAFC player. Was impressed with Lockyer and Gallagher. Lockyer stepping in when Gallagher got taken out was nice to see. Good fighting spirit in this team
Gallagher seems to have it all. Intelligence, running, quick feet, vision, tackle, goal scoring, and always knows where to be on the pitch. So so lucky to have him and to have Bowyer bringing the best out him.
A joy to watch that today. All of them. Just hope Williams has not got an injury. Looked to be holding his groin before going off.

Sky like to have six games on Tuesday and six games on Wednesday because then they can show them all on the tele with an even distribution.

Big fan of Phillips but have to agree some of his kicking was really poor today particularly his goalkicks which played us into trouble - needs to work on this.

Typical Charlton performance to lose against Wigan yet beat Leeds
Certainly be interesting to see how they now recover for Swansea and Fulham in the coming week
Outstanding performance from Charlton today though and in similar fashion to the Brentford game is proof that we'll be able to handle the bigger teams but must learn to beat the Birmingham's and Wigan's unless we dont want anything better than mid-table this season... Once again there wasnt a player who didnt show up today and was another sign of the squad that Bowyer has created with Gallen
As I put at the end of my preview... Learn to believe in the impossible people, sometimes you might be disappointed but its lovely when your not!!

Great win. Hope we can avoid too many 25 per cent possession matches over next 8 months..
