Huddersfield are closing in on a deal to reunite Harry Toffolo with his former Lincoln boss Danny Cowley.
The Terriers are in advanced talks with the Imps to sign the left-back and there is understood to be an agreement on the fee.
Toffolo, 24, set to join pending the results of a medical and an agreement over personal terms.
Were we even in for him? I didn't see anywhere link him to us and I had a look at Lincoln's forum and they were none the wiser either. From what I read on there he gets MotM every week and is fully capable of playing at this level and maybe beyond, so could be a gem for a championship side. How many Championship clubs are sustainable , football is a financial fuck up, you have to speculate to accumulate (if you're lucky) , all this model waffle is dreamland .
Fans want cheap football but want us to pay up for the players , madness put the prices up double everyones season ticket and see how keen the fans really are for you to pay up , lose lose lose whatever way you turn in this game .
That might be true but I wouldn't be that happy if we did something like what Derby have done and spend millions every year only to stay in this league anyway

I can't really get my head round footballers wanting to stay in a certain location when you're in the Championship & above. They're earning serious wedge and could afford to fly home plenty of times a month if they wanted to...

Regarding the demand from an agent for an additional £1K a week, my understanding is that was AFTER a deal had been agreed. If we’d fallen for that then that would have set the standard for all future player negotiations. If we were already at the maximum that Steve Gallen thought the player was worth then I think we made the right call.

I think my concern stems from the fact that I feel our position demands we go into our next two games and six points (over the next six days) with more than a midfield of an overplayed Pratley (I think he deserves a medal btw), Vennings and Morgan. And well as he did on Saturday, only Davison up front. Ok we have a few coming back but they have to be eased back for fear of losing them later!
If you think we can write those points off and wait for Barnsley then you are probably going to feel better about things than me. But I honestly feel these two games coming up are vitally important and I would have expected us to be better prepared for them in terms of personnel given we are on day 16 of the transfer window.
I should imagine the majority share your concern. I know I do. It's just that I recognise most January deals get done in the last few days, because everyone is playing a waiting game. I can panic as much as I choose to, but it's not going to change how the transfer window operates.

Serious impatience on here. They've been in control for less than a month and Gallen is now working to an entirely different budget. Everyone knows we have money so is trying to squeeze more out of us. I'd rather they weren't held to ransom by a mid-table League One player to be honest.

Yes, because you don't know what those players are asking in wages. Give Maddison say £18k a week like we have Taylor, a 3 year deal say, that's £2.8m a year each, plus Jonny Williams then says, my deal is up at the end of the season, I saw you offered Taylor £18k, I'm on about £5k, I want what you're paying them. Granted he's got a bit of an injury record, but you get the picture, floodgates are opened for all other new prospects.

The player's agent is only interested in two people - his client and himself (I'm not sure of the order!). Take Maddison as an example - we have made the bid and that bid was accepted - whether or not we met the release clause has little relevance - clearly Posh are happy with the bid so it must be reasonably substantial. Now Maddison's agent knows we want him - a position of strength for him. In response to a question from us along the lines of 'How much does your client want?' the response is likely to be 'How much are you prepared to pay?'. And so it plays out. 'How much?' screams the agent - 'That's not even in the ball park' - the negotiation continues and may or may not reach a conclusion if either the gap is too wide or the player doesn't really want to come to us - unless our offer was surprising and significantly more than he was expecting.
The fact that Matt Southall is an ex-agent has no relevance whatsoever - he isn't one of Maddison's agent's concerns.

If ESI are serious about having a plan to get Charlton into the Premier League then we are going to have to be competing with clubs bigger and richer than Hull for the players we will need. Of course I can see that slow progression is key and busting a wage structure might not be ideal but remember that this is a wage structure put in place by Duchatelet which was the lowest in the league. We signed players on that structure and if we want to sign better players then the wage bill will have to reflect that.
At this point any plan to progress the club to the Premier League is by far and away overshadowed by the need to stay in the current league and unless things change quite quickly that is looking unlikely to me.

Trouble is in 14 days time we will have played another 3 games.
We really need a couple in quick.
Our revenues are substantially below many of the other teams, who have parachute monies, greater TV income & gate revenue.
If our revenue is lower then our expenditure has to be lower as well.
I'm guessing but would say our revenue would put us about 18th and wouldn't be surprised if it's lower than that.
So break the FFP rules and we could get a 20 point deduction in 4 years.
Ok we could be promoted and take the punishment when relegated like QPR.
