Jams, I have a second cousin, actually a Charlton fan, who was born without legs due to the Thalidomide drug that was supposed to make it easier for women to have a more comfortable pregnancy. I am not condemning scientists out of hand - just saying stop treating them as if they are demi-gods. They make mistakes and are sometimes stupid. Like I wonder who it was who decided it would be a good idea to make an atomic bomb.
So you cherry pick which scientists you back up and agree with, depending on whether their science aligns with your political / general outlook on life?
Afternoon Gribbo. No, I don't cherry pick scientists, although there are loads who oppose the Covid vaccine but are not given space on main line media. I am anti vaccination full stop and so was my mother, so I have never been vaccinated in my life and nether has my daughter. We are all healthy and so far untouched by the Covid epidemic. If any of us gets struck down I'll be honest enough to report it on here. Meanwhile keep well.
Are you anti vaccination only or does it extend to other medication ?
Wife is a homeopath, acupuncturist etc so I go down that route if unwell, which is rare. Homeopathy works brilliantly for some people and not so well for others. I was stung by a bee in the summer. My hand quickly swelled up and I felt sick but after taking one tab of Apis mellifica I sat and watched as the swelling diminished and half an hour later I was back in the garden trimming the roses again. Remarkable really.
So you never take prescribed medication ? Just wondering what you’d do if, God forbid, you ended up in need of treatment for Covid. Or anything else that homeopathy or acupuncture couldn’t touch ?

Homeopathy doesn't 'work' for anybody. It's demonstrably absolute, utter, complete and total bollocks. Acupuncture exactly the same - though the placebo effect (the feeling that having needles stuck into you is doing you some good) is slightly stronger there because it's a demonstrable effect - whereas drinking water requires a little more stretch of the imagination.

There's a reason that they don't call for a homeopath in ICUs...
Reminds me of this excerpt from the marvelous beat poem “Storm” by Tim Minchin:

“…If you show me that, say, homeopathy works, then I will change my mind
I'll spin on a fucking dime
    I'll be embarrassed as hell,
But I will run through the streets yelling
'It's a miracle! Take physics and bin it!
    Water has memory!
And while it's memory of a long
Lost drop of onion juice seems Infinite
It somehow forgets all the poo it's had in it!…”

Am I wrong in thinking that the only person who could be effected by Novak not having a jab is Novak himself?
Yes. By not having a jab he not only increases the likelihood of contracting Covid himself but also increases the chances of then passing it onto others.
  • I just think Novak comes across as a bit of a dick - as a PR exercise his stance has been a disaster.
  • Hopefully he'll be forced to fly home economy with some screaming baby next to him all the way home

From a guy who organised a charity event less than two years ago where everybody got COVID, you’d think he’d have a bit more intelligence about the whole thing

I had an infected foot a few years ago  started from treading on something whilst on holiday and I'd been trying to treat it with tea tree oil, in the end I'd finally got a doctors appointment and was put on some pretty strong antibiotics. I'd mentioned to the doctor about the over-use of them and I was concerned about that and he asked me how concerned I was about amputation and that tea tree is fine for things like stopping small infected cuts getting worse and things like ingrowing hair follicles, splinters etc but proper infection its antibiotics or a lot of trouble.

    Shut me up

Does ruin the legitimacy of a tournament when the best player isn’t competing in. Feel sorry for whoever wins the tournament as their success won’t be the biggest story of the tournament.
I was thinking about flying over there and having a crack now he ain't playing. I'm triple vaccinated so shouldn't have any visa issues

    Fake really.
I got stung on the lip by a bee when cycling once. My lip quickly swelled up and I felt sick but after taking nothing at all I sat and watched as the swelling diminished and half an hour later I was back in the garden drinking a nice cold beer. Remarkable really.

That clip of him strolling along the beach with the trophy says it all… first in the queue at the dickhead disco!

Don't particularly like him, but that was clearly a photoshoot suggested by the media - Osaka was there too.

No different to one I remember of Andy Murray sitting with the US Open trophy overlooking New York and Central Park etc in 2012.

I sincerely hope this proves to be a big kick up the knickers for all the anti-vaxers. Not out of spite or schadenfreude, but because it is a clear signal that the world will no longer accept their selfish-stupidity. Get yourself vaxed folks, not only could it save your life but it could well impact your future travel plans.

A friend who was in HMRC policy suggested raising taxes on those that won’t get vaccinated to make up for the cost to the NHS and the economy.
I thought he was joking, but actually the more I think about it the more I see there’s a certain amount of logic behind it.
The tax on cigarettes and alcohol is so high for similar reasons.

Needs everyone and all countries to get on board, make life tough for the anti vaxers and take away some privileges and they will slowly fall in line

Good for Scott Morrison. Could be a watershed moment in the fight against anti vaxxers.

By all accounts he's jumping in now to make it look like his decision when it wasn't and he was asking the State for Djokovic to be given a visa.

Some of the overreactions to this is crazy. People are entitled to decide whether they want to be vaccinated or not. I for one am vaccinated but respect other peoples choices if they don’t want to be

A world class athlete such as Djokovic being given a medical exemption to the vaccine requirement was always going to be a tricky one to sell.
