It’s not a 2k limit per player, more like an overall limit on the entire squad which averages out to 2k per player. If we’ve gone over 2k here, that leaves us with less money to spend on other new signings.
Also we currently have AMB, Barker, Doughty, Morgan, Levitt, Dempsey, Vennings and Davison in our squad who are all 21 and under so they don't count towards the cap.
You might be right there. Even so, they're not going to be yet on the average wage, let alone top earners.
Phillips, Amos, Deji, Purrington, Pearce, Pratley, JFC, Williams, Lapslie, Oztumer, Aneke and Bonne all count as 2k you’d expect (doubt any are on less). Gilbey, Watson and Washington will count as whatever they’re on. I’m going to estimate 35k per week which is about 1.8million. So in theory we should have around 14k a week left. I’m hopeful that can bring in 3/4 decent permanents alongside 2/3 young loans. Could boost that figure slightly if Phillips goes.
I think Gilbey and Washington were signed before the new rules came into play, so they'd count as 2k a week also

I'm  watching the Huddersfield v Forest game on Sky at the moment and I've  lost track of the number of times that Ben Watson has been mentioned as a great loss to Forest.

Are Sarr and Taylor playing ?
Taylor is... Sarr isn't on the bench

    T*ylor started for Forest.

But Nabster's not even on the bench.

Sarr is still self isolating I believe.

Yeah, he hasn't got Covid but quarantined for 2 weeks.

"Sarr will sit out this weekend's trip to Brentford as he goes through the government-mandated 14-day self-isolation period after being announced as Huddersfield Town's fourth summer signing on Friday evening."

Let’s hope he’s more of a Darren Pratley type of signing for us than a Joe Ledley!

I've read about that, but it still seems odd. I don't recall other players having to self isolate like that because they were signed as free agents

Indeed how have trialists played for clubs if they were free agents beforehand?

Will Philips be encouraged to stay now......Mmmmm maybe?
Maybe, but it’s a position where we have 2 players good enough to play every week.
Sorry but how can you say that about AMB who has never played a game in League One?

here's a pub quiz question for you... when was the last time we had an FA Cup final goalscorer play for us? ...1947?

Did they have to score before they joined Charlton or after they left?

Konchesky scored in the 3-3 final against Liverpool in 2006

Potential to be a seriously good signing

Shame he’s ex palace but always thought he was a very tidy player. Getting him at the wrong end of his career but based on last season’s stats there’s plenty of life left in the old dog yet.

    Verdict: Good signing.

    Welcome Ben.

Chris Powell, Johnny Williams, Mark Bright,
David Whyte. Getting players from Palace or have been at Palace is no problem.

I will concede that Joe Ledley was a Turkey of a signing.

Pardew as well - as a player he was decent enough

No worries can see how it could be read differently. My point was that although Phillips is a cracking keeper I’m really not that fussed if he wants out. He’s probably the only player good enough to be in our current best XI who I’d be content to see go.

Steve Mackenzie (albeit in a replay) 1981. Must be a few others, that’s one that sticks in my mind.
Garth Crooks in the same game.

    Very happy with this signing

Sounds a good signing, obviously age wise he's not a youngster but if he can still do it then it's a great addition. Pratley and Watson in midfield if we're near the top come the business end of the season will be invaluable.

Very positive signing. Any signings are positive, but his experience is invaluable at League One this season.

Welcome to Charlton Athletic, formerly known as Shitshow Athletic, that are now back under stable and respectable ownership and ON OUR WAY BACK!

Don't forget Karl Gobinson signed that powder puff loanee from Palace.
Name like Kaka - and certainly played like it.

Why is he signing a blank sheet of paper
They'll add the contract terms later when TS really takes over.........  ;)

Great signing. I actually think he could end up on the coaching staff. One year playing then perhaps a player/coach role.
This was my first thought as well, good shout.
