Sounds like he has real issues and needs to get them dealt with ASAP. Having gone through stuff when I was younger and never dealing with them until everything came to a head I know exactly what it is like. However, only the person going through them can go about sorting it out, you need to want to get help and go through the hard work of trying to fix things. Whether he is doing that none of us on here can really say only he can answer that honestly.

Disagree. Bowyer and probably no other football manager would do this. Maddison's reputation would be well known throughout the football world which is why he was apparently rejected by Bradford city and maybe others. It didn't work out for us but that isn't to say it won't happen elsewhere.

Firstly if Maddison does have have some mental issues then putting the boot in doesn't help. If indeed he is just a prick then he is already ruining his own career.
Secondly Bowyer got slaughtered yesterday on the transfer deadline thread for having the audacity to ship Maddison out as they new best even though Bowyer dared to let on (if you read between the lines regarding Bowyer comment on MM's injury status) that the bloke was playing games and didn't want to fit in.

I think this is a really good post. I have suffered with depression and when I look back, I have been a right dickhead at times. No doubt I still am, but just not as much! I actually cringe at some of my behaviour and although I accept responsibility for my actions, 99% of the time it coincided with me not being in a great place.
I'm reluctant to dig Maddison out based on a few stories and rumours. I have no doubt at least some of them are true, but I do genuinely believe he needs a bit of help.
As you say, the crucial bit is that he needs to help himself. Otherwise he's going to really regret it. He could end up retiring a lot poorer and more lonely than he should have been. Would be a real shame and for himself I really hope he can turn it around.

He’s now doing well back in Scotland while consistently streaming games with his mates. Football is now a hobby for him again rather than the only thing he could do to pay the bills.
