Since my original post match comment way back in this thread, and admitting I've only scanned a few other comments, I'm somewhat concerned that a few are asking for LB's head and others are saying TS may well be getting ready (my words) to change things or at least should be considering it, WHO do people think are 1 Available and 2 Can do a much better job? Danny Cowley is the only name I've seen mentioned?
Eddie Howe - took Bournemouth to prem.
You seriously think that Howe is desperate enough to drop down to League One?
Thomas is an ambitious man and would probably pay to get the right man in his eyes.
How would Howe look if he failed to get us promoted though? - What would that do to his reputation?
Not much, salary issues etc are a ready made excuse this season.
But that excuse isn’t allowed for Bowyer?
No because it's Bowyer and his tactics that have been shown up of late. We've got some very decent players and our game plan is making them look god awful at times.
Also new manager gets the 'inherited another manager's side' excuse too.
The seeds were sown last season, with a bit more positivity I think we would have achieved what we needed. Was it Swansea away that was negative and poor?
Wigan, Brum, Reading, take your pick. Anyway last season was a write off. This season isn't.

Sheffield Wednesday away is the one I'll never forget. Still stings to this day.
The thing is with Bowyer. Since we got the ridiculous injuries last season, something has changed in him and it isn't for the better. Whether that is also to do with the ridiculous behind the scenes goings on or not, I don't know, but something has changed and I have changed in the way I view him because I can see the change.
If you want to argue that he worked miracles getting a squad together before the injuries that more than competed in the Championship, well I would agree. But the last 8 games of the season, his ultra negative approach relegated us. I don't like to point it out but it is true.
When a team tries to beat us, it plays to our strengths and we can snuff them out of the game and nick a goal or two. When they try to stop us, by doing what we do to us, we haven't got an answer. That is why, today Bowyer didn't try to beat Shrewsbury but set up to stop them. they set up to stop us and it was a dreadful game. Then after we scored, we sat back and they had to try to beat us. It was a question of getting to the final whistle before they scored. This tactic from Bowyer is invariably unsuccessful but he doesn't change it. It creates a panic to our play and also lets opponents know they can attack without us catching them out.
Bowyer hasn't got a clue who our best team is because he chops and changes too much. Ok, some of it is enforced, but his treatment of Williams and indeed Bogle is outrageous and it can't fail to have players dissing him behind his back. It is how you lose a dressing room.
And for those saying, who is out there who could replace Bowyer. I thought Eddie Howe was out there. Bowyer needs to get his finger out quickly and sort out his negative tactics or walk. We have a good squad which can be improved further in January. If he can't achieve with it, we need somebody who can. He deserves some more games, but not blind faith. Something is wrong and has been for a while.

This is what I don't get about LB. There's always someone else to blame. If it's not a Bonne for missing an opening goal it's a defender for not clearing his lines. It is because our margins for success are so narrow that we can't afford to make that one mistake.
The reality is that on average this season we have had one shot on target every half an hour. If we continue to not playing creative players and even bringing a sub, who might positively influence the game, off because he misses a tackle the situation will remain the same.
This in spades.
Players make mistakes. No point calling someone out on it otherwise you'd be doing every game. The best thing is to make sure any mistake is not crucial. If we had been 2 goals up today the last minute mistake wouldn't matter.
It boils my piss to read on here people saying that the "doomsters & gloomsters" only come out when we lose or don't play well. We haven't being playing well all season. We've not yet been convincing on any of the matches I've seen, apart from maybe Ipswich. Its not that we don't dominate teams but teams dominate us. We've played 3 of the bottom 4 in the last month & lost 2 of them & drew one. I'm not expecting a goal fest (although that would be nice) but we should at least be taking the game to them. 1 shot on target on wednesday 2 today. Does anyone really think that is acceptable ?? We have Wimbledon next Saturday. They have just lost 4-2 at home to mid-table Bristol Rovers. BR had 23 (TWENTY THREE) shots at goal with 8 (EIGHT) on target. We'd be lucky to have 23 shots by the end of the year.
Arghhhh. This shit does my head in. It's such a simple game. Get the ball forward & shoot.
Posting without reading other posts. That was an abject display. I saw Bowyer's post match interview, and although I share his frustrations with the players' performance, he got it wrong today. The selection and the formation just didn't work. Taking off Williams was a negative move, when in my opinion I thought he did OK when he was on the field. Bowyer could have taken off another player who had started the game and was showing signs of tiredness. This was the first game I've seen live this season due to work shifts. Having read previous comments about Watson's past performances and seeing his display today, I just don't know what he offers the team. He certainly can't play in the same side as Pratley. With the two together along with Gilbey and Forster-Caskey, the team had no width. There was no creativity. So many times in the first half we kept on passing the ball back to Amos. On the plus side, Maatsen had a good defensive and attacking game. Pearce was composed and reassuring in the air on his return.
So of late bowyer has made some strange/interesting substitutions todays probably cost the 3 points ?everyone digging bowyer out but surley jackson is also accountable as they make these decisions together?
LB under pressure for the first time as Manager at Charlton Dont start the game with Chucks - clearly he is far better coming on later in the game with defenders tiring LB stop digging out your players in public LB go back to being the Manager playing free flowing football like when you first took over Until Alfie is back - play Maatsen as a Wing Back The priority has to be getting a very good striker - if that means shipping out 3 or 4 players for that to happen - so be it
Has anyone mentioned the 40 yard backpass yet? That was quite special.
Which one. One was from opposition half.
Was it as far as that 😂 I clearly wasn't paying full attention by that point.
Yes I mentioned it on the first page. Someone on the match thread wondered if it was the longest backpass in Charlton history. I thought it was 60 yards at least.

Before I read your post, I was wondering if anyone else had noticed the lack of discussion between Jacko & the gaffer of late ?
I know the VP camera isn't on that area in front of the dugout too often but I haven't seen Jacko on his feet next to Bows on a regular basis recently.
Watson needs to come out the team for a while. Really thought he'd bring so much more, especially at this level. Pratley ahead of him imo but should always be one or the other, never both.

What Bowyer has to do is find a system that allows us to pressure opponents. I think one thing he hasn't really tried is to have Bogle and Aneke playing together as a couple of battering rams. As we don't have pace it would be worth trying but they have only played together for a few minutes against Ipswich.
I think playing Centre Half has damaged Gunter's confidence. He can't play centre half, he wins nothing and his general play has been a liability. Take that incredibly stupid pass against Burton. Take the penalty against Gillingham where he didn't mean to clip the player, but seeing how wide he was, he should have taken care not to. And today, their player had a Charlton player in front of him to block the shot. Why foul him? But Bowyer doesn't say a word about that, or drop him.
Lastly, when you are trying to close out a game, drawing fouls is a great way to do it. It allows you to reset, break up the flow of opponents and even waste time. Williams is probably one of the best players for that situation! Bowyer lost his temper and made that decision because of that rather than astuteness. He was an embarrassment today, in doing that and his comments afterwards. As he was picking on the fans on Wednesday and picking on Bogle when he was no worse than anybody else against Burton. How about blaming yourself Bowyer, I'd respect that and be far more understanding. My fear is he doesn't get it.

Thought Watson was much better than Pratley today - and imagine we will see that from the heat map.

Watson or Pratley - two very good destroyers for the level. On current form, Pratley on the bench. Watson was one of our better players today.

Bowyer is manager.
Jacko is simply his assistant.
He is but surely he can't be agreeing with it all the time but maybee he's just so yes man

Maybe at passing, but Pratley broke up so many attacks and dropped deeper than Watson, was better physically and in terms of being a body in space to limit options.

That's because Pratley was being played in a position that he cannot play. Watson occupied his position
Ever since alfie been injured we've lost all our attacking threat without him we have no pace or intent or vision going forward
Yep and it's pretty damning on Bowyer our attacking threat is reliant on a young lad who this time last year was playing for Bromley. Surely we must have some more options than "gotta go fast"
Another disappointing performance but I thought we had done enough to win. Shrewsbury were not very good and we gifted them a point by our overall performance, but more by going into our defensive shell for the last 10 minutes. Why do we do that? Shrewsbury, really, had nothing going forwards before that and then we just let them come at us. What was that all about with subbing Williams? He and Bogle were brought on for a reason and within 5 minutes they had done it. A great goal created by those two. And then to take Johnnie off. Would he have been worse back there than Washington? Surely he had fresher legs and could have given them something to think about in the attacking third, and that was removed. And, what does that do for Johnnie's psyche? That was a disappointing performance and I think Lee should look at his decision at the end there.
On the positives, I think the back 5 all played well (apart from Gunter at the end). It certainly showed having players out there who played in their preferred positions (well almost, but I think Famewo adjusted very well to playing on the right). Jason had a solid game I thought. Amos was top notch which we're coming to expect. And, a point is a point and we're in the top 6.
But, we lacked creativity and no wonder with Maddison, Smyth and Shinnie unavailable. But, we were grinding out the result, and then the penalty. And that was the only way Shrewsbury were going to score in my opinion.
