I love Charlton, and it’s one of the few things (potentially) keeping me sane during this damn pandemic. But I will no longer buy Valley Pass whilst Bowyer is in situ. The enjoyment has gone, the losses are too predictable and it’s ruining my Tuesdays and Saturdays. I know we should support through thick and thin, so it pains me to do something that’s against the grain for me, and that’s giving up on my club.
Didn't post last night as wanted to sleep on it. But I do think Bowyer has to go.
If there was any team spirit, fight, positivity then I would be inclined to give Bowyer time. He's earned it after all.
However the team looked dejected. Poor tactics, no settled side, poor substitutions, poor player management (Imo) and the last 20 games isn't just a bad run its systemic. Time for a change. I don't know who but a change is needed. I still believe we have a squad good enough for the top 6 and it's easily achievable.
The view now seems to be overwhelmingly/exclusively that Bowyer should go. Does anyone still think he should stay? @ElfsborgAddick I know you were keen to give him more time, is that still the case or was last night final straw type stuff?

It does seem like that or it might be that there are two posters writing 4+ posts each on every page
that question i can't help but read it as a threat
"does Lee bowyer care about Charlton or his family?"
If anyone knows who that piece of chopped liver is, he needs reporting; that’s a blatant threat and wether it’s bluff or not needs a zero tolerance policy. Scumbag.
I struggle to blame bows too much. When you think of all the shit he's had to deal with when he's been here, the hammer blow of last second relegation and the bizarre way the world is at the moment, I think it's just all caught up with him and he's exhausted.
He looks to me like a man who needs a good long break away from football. He looks burnt out, don't forget there was barely even an off season.
I actually think it might be worth exploring giving him the rest of the season off and come back in the summer. It'll never happen because football doesn't work like that but I think he needs a break mentally if nothing else
Just to throw some slightly different thinking into the mix.
Sandgaard brought Roddy in to be his man, with a focus on the medium and long term. Bowyer was simply untouchable at first due to the credit he had in the bank with fans, but it’s not known what sort of relationship TS / LB and GR / LB have formed and whether Bowyer was part of that medium / long term plan.
That credit has pretty much evaporated now, and given how the last two months have gone, it’s almost a certainty that those relationships will be weaker than they were in the beginning.
TS / GR would already have began strategy planning for next season, quite a while ago probably. There’s all sort of variables potentially at play. But it could well be our manager for next season has already been lined up and verbally agreed. They could already be in work elsewhere and not available until then. So then there is the question of what you do with the final third of the season.
Alternatively, they might not have done that but still need to consider the strategy of a manager change. Getting fans and money in for next season and starting the new campaign positively will now be the driver. If this season is now over which looks likely, when is the right time to influence next season?
‘Now’ allows a new man time to assess squad and potentially build some momentum. However there’s a massive risk that if the end of season doesn’t go well, and that’s entirely possible if most of the squad think they’re off in summer, and fans don’t warm to a new ‘outsider’ manager overseeing poor performances. So there is an important risk / reward consideration in terms of positive momentum for next season which may want them to defer change for now, even if they know it is inevitable.
And finally, there could also be a financial consideration. It is not cheap to dismiss a Chanpionship contract manager and his team with 16 months to go. If this season is already spent then additional resource spend now for a ‘dead period’ may be a waste that eats into player budget for next season. Alternatively, there may be milestone aspects that make it much more expensive to dismiss at this point as opposed to in May.
We just don’t know on any of those things, but I wanted to show that it’s never just a straight forward consideration.
With that though, Saturday convinced me that regardless of what happens this week or next week, Bowyer won’t be our manager next season
No doubt that it. Purely depends on how we approach the last part of the season. With the run we are on we could easily finish 16th or lower and that would be hard to spin a promotion campaign if we are finishing below Gillingham. Starting to think we will need TS to show his hand very soo as to what will happen next season to appease the wider Charlton supporters base.
3rd Minute - Stockley Header saved onto the bar. 9th Minute - Stockley Goal from a Shinnie Corner. 18th Minute - Shinnie hit the bar from a free-kick.
So we could of been 3-0 up within 20 minutes without Burton having a sniff.
Then suddenly they take a quick throw, lack of awareness and communication and we allow the deep cross and for the attacking player to get a jump. That's a defensive error down to the players not Bowyer.
We have 3 more attempts after that and dominated the chances and possession first half.
2nd half was another matter we started slow and was lethargic and was too slow to close down the 2nd Goal. Only real chances of note was Purringtons shot and Pearce's weak header.
What frustrated the hell out of me after we went behind is that we just didn't have any composure we just lumped it forward towards Stockley despite him having 3 opposition players around him.
I understand us wanting to be direct at times and get crosses in but every time it's a 50/50 ball and we had no alternative when it wasn't working it really went in Burton's favour.

As I said yesterday, they didn't really back him in the last transfer window. I think you're right about them setting up or at least planning another man in his job. I'm guessing he got wind of it, or put two and two together and is now just running down the time.
There been chatter about players not being happy with his tactics or Roddy not convinced he's the man to take us forward. That's just chatter, but when you add the facts of him digging players out in public, his erratic team selections, his negative demeanor you can only come to the conclusion that this is not a happy camp.
I have a feeling that is pretty accurate @AFKABartram. TS' approach to the club so far does seem to be based around what I can only call a cultural shift, he's bought in a lot of his own people and rebuilt nearly from scratch in a lot of cases.
My feeling (as yours seems to be) is that he will, sooner or later, want to apply the same approach to the actual football side: his own man appointed by him to fit his own vision. Probably in management talk it has some fancy name like "synergy" or similar. But as yet, he's either not chosen this person or he has, but for whatever reason they are not available.
For someone whose communication is and was a breath of fresh air, Sandgaard had been notably reticent on the subject of Lee Bowyer and his place going forward. Nothing critical of him but not much in the way of support either, not even the infamous "vote of support." One inference is that this is because he's not intending to keep Bowyer on.
I have speculated before that IF this is the case then it seems possible that Bowyer has either been told this or has come to suspect/believe it through his own thoughts. This at least would be a possible explanation of Bowyer's apparent resigned air and some of his tactical choices - if it doesn't matter what he does, then why bother?

That's not true, they backed him as much as they could.
Sad the way it is turning out for him although he hasn’t helped his cause at all with some of his actions this season. Hoped he’d be given until the end of season but as I’ve said previously when TS felt the time was right to part company I would go with his decision in this results driven business.
Whether a new man or caretaker can get a tune out of our bunch of misfit journeymen pros and loans remains to be seen. They may look top six as individuals on paper but success is only achieved as a collective all pulling in the same direction. They are as culpable as the management team once they cross that white line and need to have a good look at themselves. A 2011 Powell clear out of the vast majority is now required in the summer so the foundations can be laid to bring TS’s dream to reality.
Thanks for the memories Lee and for steering as through the sh1t storm created by the Rat and shysters that followed. The two semi’s and final in May 2019 are right up there with my fondest moments over the last six decades. Enjoy your fishing put your feet up and fcuk the football, it’s only a game after all.
The first time I really felt as though everything was not right with Bowyer’s thinking was the MK Dons game at home. That’s the one where we had the return of 2,000 fans for the first time in months.
I was “lucky” enough to be there, but after freezing in the cold for about 3 hours watching a dreadful performance/1-0 defeat I was shocked to hear Bowyer come out and seemingly bring the fans “not being loud enough” as something that he was unhappy about.
Being at that game probably meant I took it a bit personally, but that really was the first time I thought to myself “WTF Lee?!”
From that week on it seems like there has been at least one bland performance, ridiculous excuse, incident of poor management every week.
I really can’t put my finger on what’s happened to him to be honest, but it all seemed to go south after MK Dons.
It's a different pressure. Bowyer was our hero, doing all he could under crazy conditions and looking back, getting us promoted was a miracle. Now he is being backed the pressure is ramped up. TS wants attacking football and has backed LB in the window as much as the salary cap has allowed. If there were fans in the ground I think LB would be gone by now. The fans would have got on his back and TS would be in attendance to hear it!

Has looked tired, dejected and acted in a total different fashion to what we’ve seen previously.
The man needs a good holiday and a break from football.
