Has Bowyer lost it?

  • Some managers are naturally awful or not good enough for a club of our size. We've had plenty of those.

In regards to bowyer. No, he never "lost it".

He highly influences what will be happening on the pitch but he obviously doesn't have complete direct control over results and our performance.

Apart from the play off final, we've had an awful couple of years in regards to the mountain of shocking ridiculous off field problems.

The club is now no longer going to fold. Football is not going to just end tomorrow.

Even if we have been underperforming and Bowyer's made some evidently poorly judged decisions.

Just be patient here and allow us to regenerate!

Time is always the healer. Good things will come.

  • The most interesting thing left on this thread is seeing how many comments can be made before Muttley posts again. Obsessive or what.
I can think of two, one we all know of. Not necessarily on this thread.

  • Half time against Rochdale at The Valley, Bowyer needed to be sacked on the spot.  It's all gone very quiet.
  • He's openly admitted he shouldn't have hooked Purrington for Matsaan on Tuesday night.
So why did he do it?

    Because he lost it!

Admission is the first step on the road to recovery. We're with you Bows.

I have to say - I like this stage of the week, we can have a reasoned discussion without the raw emotion generated by our most recent loss/win.

In the day or so after the match it boils down toBowyer must go now” (if we’ve lost) orwhere are the boo boys now” (if we’ve won)
Guess we’re heading into this part of the cycle now, let’s give it to Monday or Tuesday when we can all talk rationally again!

That's not a fair comment.  As i said on the post match thread, I've been quite vocal that I don't believe Bowyer is the man to take us forward long term, but it was a good performance & I really want him to prove me wrong.

Any Charlton fan who wants us to lose, or isn't happy when we win, needs to have a word with themselves!

People were going potty at half time against Rochdale at The Valley.

Why(virtually nobody) has there been nothing posted today after a win.......and the league table looking promising?

Move to a defensive position. May I suggest.
    1. If he had played the players and formation that I have been saying we should have for weeks and weeks we would be top of the league.
    2. Papering over the cracks, they were crap.
    3. We were lucky. On another day, their two shots on target could have gone in and X should have been sent off.
    4. We should have played X today, but Bowyer would have played him at left back (and collapse into laughter).

Whether it becomes ‘noisy’ on this thread or not is entirely in the hands of one man - Lee Bowyer. If he makes needless changes to both the starting eleven and the formation for next Saturdays visit from Gillingham and we lose then of course fans have a right to ask questions. Like I said on the post match thread he needs to keep the same team as today (barring injuries in training this week), keep the same formation and let the players build on the foundations laid today. We don’t have to do much more than what we did today to beat the Gills so LB should keep faith in those who started to carry on where they left off. Now is the time to let a cohesive unit gel.

I don't watch the games as I do not have the Valley Pass facility.  I have seen three matches since Swindon, April 2017.
I go by his previous and being old fashioned in stabilty and not sacking a manager if they have a poor spell.
  • If we had lost today there would have been a mountain of posts questioning Bowyer's position.
    All very predictable.

    TBF, that’s true.

Have a read of the comments made when the team was announced. How many thought that was the team we should be playing?
Did someone actually say ‘use your brain Bowyer’?
Now if he does not play the same team he is wrong? even though we don’t know what the medical team is saying. How will we know if it is needless or not?
So as I understand it, if he makes any changes and loses, it is all his fault - like bringing in Famewo.
    OK.
Just to be clear though. If he starts the same team he has done well whatever the result or performance?

If we had lost today there should be a lot of people questioning Bowyer's position, that's so predictable Stevie Wonder could see it.

We didn't loose, but maybe you would prefer it if we did, so you could get some "oh here they are again points"?

I'll tell why we won, we had square pegs in square holes, looked sharp, looked like the players knew what they were doing, didn't fanny about with it for the sake of it, played our best available team and didn't make 5 defensive substitutions.

If you can tell me we have done all, or the majority of, them previously and consistently, please tell me when?
    We did not "loose", correct.

Yes there would've been and rightfully so given recent performances & how bad Rochdale are!!

Thankfully we won the game & played well, so let's enjoy it

  • There is a guy from Scotland who adopted Charlton as his team, this was all VERY recently.  He quoted himself as saying that before he came to London to "stay", he'd never heard of Charlton.
  • Lose = lose a game.
Loose = my trousers are loose.
Is Bowyer losing it (as in the plot) ?
  • We’ve beaten 18th placed Rochdale in League One, the day I wank the manager off for that result hasn’t yet arrived ...
now win promotion and I’ll be warming the custard up for him !
It's a sign of progress you see, we failed to beat 24th placed Burton or 21st place Swindon, twice.

Did you warm the custard up for 20th place Bristol City or 19th place MK Dons?

The difference is though that this was a convincing win.  Its the performance that might earn the manager a reach around, not just the result.

If we repeat the performance, more often than not, for the next 19 games I'll jump in a vat of custard holding only what God gave me and a humble pie.

And rightly so!!, but we won and everyone should be happy, and bowyer continues to prove the people that doubt him wrong. If he doesn’t then he should be criticised for not doing his job well enough. It’s called football management.

A manager's tenure is one game at a time then?
