I would think Lee has known about this for some weeks because if he’s appointed Brum manager today or tomorrow all the contact and negotiation will have taken place over a few weeks. Bowyer is under contract so I assume that TS has also been aware of this for some weeks. It could well be that TS has already got a deal simmering and is waiting for Bowyers confirmation as new Birmingham City manager before announcing something. Of course our new man might not be available until the summer.

I watch this and it still brings a lump to my throat but the reality is the Lee Bowyer of that day is not the Lee Bowyer we’ve seen this season. For whatever reason he burnt out, he became negative, he put out teams that have played some of the worst football we as Charlton fans have witnessed for a long long time so I feel his departure is what’s best for the club in the here and now. You can’t live on yesterday’s and happy memories. I truly wish LB the best in the future wherever that may be for him but for him the journey is over. The journey, however, continues for Charlton Athletic Football Club. I just hope that Thomas Sandgaard makes the right decision in a new appointment, one that makes our journey as supporters sweet and smooth. We’ve had enough of stalling and bumping along.

I know it’s naivety, but always surprised how quick some of these managerial appointments are made, Birmingham manager only sacked yesterday. Obviously, this is if he goes Birmingham today.

If you want to replicate the success of Bournemouth then you need to hire from within (Howe) and if you want to replicate the success of Sheff Utd then you need to hire from the pool of best L2 managers (Wilder).

I believe the things in Euell’s favour for being caretaker until the end of the season at the very least are:
He feels he is ready for a change or a step up as his interest in Wimbledon indicated. He has at least enough credibility to have been given a role within the FA/English football set up. He has been a very good shepherd in continuing the development of good youngsters into pro players (how many prospects have been ruined by Euell and how many have blossomed further?) He has successfully assimilated slightly older players who have arrived like Pope, Lookman and Aribo. He has knowledge of the club and people around the club. If one for the future, he has knowledge of prospects around the leagues. He has personal credibility amongst pro players because he was a bloody good player himself. He is pretty cool and measured in his work.
Those reasons above would qualify him to be a caretaker manager until the end of the season for me. If there is to be a different caretaker who would be better suited? A decent caretaker appointment would provide space and time for careful thought from Mr Sandgaard.
Really mixed emotions here, sad that it has ended like this, after all that has gone before and the endurance needed in the wake of the total bollocks of our ownership fiasco, he showed some staying power, but it does seem to have gone tits up lately, not sure where it all went wrong. Certainly wish him well where ever he finishes up at, just wondering what made him quit, was it the fans backlash, or just basic realism of where we were, and maybe he just felt at the end of the road.
My advise would be get the new man in now and plan for next season, no point messing around until end of the season, we want out of this league. This season is a write off!

Bowyer took over as Caretaker Manager in 2018, leading the club to the League One play-offs two years in a row, resulting in the club’s promotion to the Championship in 2019. Following relegation last summer, the Addicks sit eighth in League One.
Owner Thomas Sandgaard said: “I would like to thank Lee for everything he has done for Charlton. I have enjoyed working with him and wish him the best for his future. Our focus now is on finding the correct replacement to take this club forward.”
Bowyer said: “It was a difficult decision to leave. Everyone knows how I feel about the club. I could have gone before but I felt it was the right thing to do to stay and help the club through the tough times we’ve been through.
“We had some amazing times and some tough times. It has been emotional leaving. I’d like to thank all the players that I’ve worked with and the staff for the hours and hours of hard work that they did. I also want to thank the supporters. We wouldn’t have had those great memories without them.
“The club is now in a place with a good owner that cares and wants to improve the place and I hope the club can continue to grow. It will always hold a special place in my heart.”
Assistant Manager Johnnie Jackson will take the team for Tuesday’s home game against Bristol Rovers.
That was the longest parting of the ways in quite some time. Fairwell Lee, I wish you nothing but well for the future but this is the best outcome for all parties at this time.
Personally, I'm quite gutted. Was willing to give bowyer til about october. Think it's an odd step going to birmingham, he could've easily have left to another club in a higher division before. Why now?

I mean, if it's blindingly obvious to everyone else, it must be obvious to them too.
He gave us some hope, that is for certain. I said before I wanted him to go as I did not want the good memories to sour.
They were already damaged by his treatment of young players and his preference for older, less good players.
To me he has gone at a good time, I still remember the two play off campaigns and Wembley as the lasting memory. I am somewhat relieved by his choice.
