Going to Birmingham would be a really weird move though, their ownership is all over the place and they are going through managers like hot dinners.
Bowyer has two Play Off campaigns and a VERY narrow relegation from the Championship with a League One squad on his resume and would be able to get a far better Championship club than them if he bides his time.
He must be getting offered very good terms and money to take them over. Can't see any other real reason for taking them over
There may be a part of him that likes managing in adversity. I say this seriously. Under RD, he was largely left to his own devices, total control. Of course, it may not be the same at Brum, but it might be that he sees an opportunity free of interference. Not that TS is going to interfere, but I sense the expectation of success under TS may have been a factor. Who knows?
I think Bowyer's lack of judgement is particularly highlighted by his treatment of Marcus Maddison, Macauley Bonne and Jonny Williams, who have all gone on to smash it at their respective clubs.
Yeah and 2 of them went to Championship clubs like him , so they must be good
What possible purpose would there be to sack Lee now? The season is 2/3 over. We are neither getting relegated nor promoted. I am actually somewhat surprised and impressed with TS's patience on this issue.
I think given the turmoil of our takeover, which did not even free up funds til the end of the traditionally weak winter transfer window, and Covid creating havoc with the finances of every sub-EPL club in England, I am not surprised at where we are in the table.
Five months ago I was worried we were going into administration and even when TS took over I was worried about relegation in our near future. We literally lost all our best players. All of em. And we mostly brought in people I had never heard of and neither had anyone else. We were 72 hours from possibly becoming Bury. I've not forgotten that.
If I can support any reason to replace Bowyer it is his poor people management skills, which have become evident and might qualify as a crucial shorcoming. But I do not hear about any rational replacements that would clearly seem better, just a shot in the dark and mostly other names who have recently been sacked, themselves.
The fact many here felt we should go after Eddie Howe shows a certain level of delusion among some CAFC fans that makes me really take cries for Bowyer's immediate removal with a certain grain of salt. How many times have we wanted a manger removed the last decade only to find the next manager was no better? Maybe because players win games more than managers do? Who was the last manager that really improved us? Oh yeah.... Bowyer.
I am not necessarily against finding a better manager AFTER the season is over, if one is really wanting to come here. But this is not a desperate situation. We have no losses in our last four matches and our team quality feels mid-table, which is actually right where we are. And I will keep reminding everyone that this season we are net sellers to the tune of £1.7M, which is a fairly big "net-out" for a club of our size. We won't get promoted with that strategy no matter who our manager is.
Im way behind what's been going on since Saturday, but I couldn't have said this any better myself.
How fickle have we become as a fanbase? Bowyer stood fast when he could have taken the easy option on more than once occasion.
However, he stood fast after relegation knowing we had no money and not much of a future until Thomas rescued us. By that time it was far too late to recruit, we had bang average players coming into the club and hence we have had bang average results.
Sure we have a wealthy backer for the first time in my lifetime who seems prepared to back the club.....but suddenly our fan base have turned into Billy big bollocks expecting miracles from journeymen and players over the hill.
So, here we are....things may well improve with a change in management and style, but Im betting it won't be with the bunch Bowyer has had to put up with, we will see this season out and whoever gets the job will be able to rebuild their own team. In my opinion, that should have been Lee.
People have incredibly short memories, I will always remember Lee's side that got us promoted....we always looked to me like we wouldn't lose....that mentality was instilled by Bowyers winning attitude. Our ownership merry go round has much to do with the players currently at the club.
Looks like the inflated expectations of our fans has hounded a good manager out. I really hope that Lee goes on to have a very successful career, sadly its not going to be with us.
I hope the adage of "be careful of what you wish for" doesn't come back to haunt us.
Remember when Bowyer froze Dillon Phillips out because Phillips wanted to fulfil his contract and then move onto another opportunity? Nine months later, Bowyer resigns mid-way through his own contract so he can move onto another opportunity.
Or alternatively, at the start of the season he knew Phillips was almost certainly going to be gone by the end of the transfer window as one of the few saleable assets we had left to pay the wages. As a result he opted to get Amos and the defence used to each other from the beginning, rather than having to chuck him in at short notice after Phillips was sold.
Birmingham Mail, is talking about us being owed £350,000 compensation. So thanks for that Lee.
If people were scratching their heads a fortnight ago why Sandgaad didn’t terminate Bowyer’s contract and swallow a £500k+ exit fee, you might have your answer in the above if this potential interest has been there a few weeks...
I think Bowyer's lack of judgement is particularly highlighted by his treatment of Marcus Maddison, Macauley Bonne and Jonny Williams, who have all gone on to smash it at their respective clubs.
Some wanted him to stay and be backed , partly due to his loyalty and definitely due to his previous achievements some wanted him to be sacked .
The FACT is , he resigned and walked away from our club , there’s your loyalty right there . Unless someone knows otherwise 🤷♂️
Done it mid way through the season too. Apoplectic when Grant did it, but blame fellow fans when Bowyer does it.
Weird spin on the situation. Just the other day, people were accusing Bow of hanging around for a pay off and if he really cared about the club he’d resign.
I suppose the Bowyer boo boys didn’t expect him to land on his feet with a job in a higher division... oops.
How's it a weird spin? He's done exactly the same thing as Grant, yet one got chastised and the other has candles being lit for him in people's front rooms.
I'm happy for Bowyer. His time was up here, so it's a win for both of us. I won't be following up on their results though because I only care about Charlton.

It’s more akin to Taylor than Grant, Bowyer and Taylor both took the unilateral decision to leave us mid-season, whilst under contract, to avoid risking their opportunity at a higher level. With Grant a transfer offer from another club was received, that we accepted, and he negotiated a contract with that club and left.
No idea who we’ll get next and there’s a good chance I won’t be over excited by the chosen man but regardless I will as I always do give my 100% support to whoever manages the team. They do well and that support naturally remains high but as things start to go wrong it diminishes. My support for Lee Bowyer was for a long time 100% in fact it was on my suggestion that this forum put the Lee Bowyer 100% support banner. Pretty much since that point my 100% started to decline and as of yesterday morning it was sitting at around 50%. I think Lee moving was probably a decent outcome for all concerned.

I’m going to stand outside my front door tonight and shout and clap for Bowyer
I'm amazed at the bitterness shown on here towards the fans that voiced their concerns that Bowyer needed to move on.
No Charlton fan forced Bowyer out, the same as no Charlton fan forced Curbs out.
It was clear to me that Bowyer had run out of ideas on how to move this squad forward. That doesn't mean that I dislike him or wish him ill. I hope that the move re-invigorates him just like most on here seem to be saying.
I think the bitter name calling is unbecoming and would be best if some reappraise the situation. Sometimes social media allows people to take extreme positions they wouldn't if they were face to face.
We all want what's best for the club, we just have different opinions on how that might be achieved.
I feel positive about the change and am sure, LB does and secretly, TS probably does too.
So many fans had missed the point of how expensive LB would have been to pay off, which you just do not do, unless you have a plan (ie not the Plan , or they decide to move before having a "Sacked" next to their name on the CV.
TS has impressed with his recruitment of Jed and Wayne, so I remain quite excited (without excepting us to be able to recruit a recent PL Manager).
Ultimately, we all want what is best for Charlton. There was evidence for all to see that something wasn't right and results have backed that up. There was also some evidence from reliable sources too.
We can all speculate as to what the reasons are and certainly Bowyers clear achievements should not be ignored and everybody has a right to praise him for those achievements if they believe that is what they were.
Maybe it is because Bowyer could see his managerial career slipping, but there was a reaction that was observed and commented on. The treatment of a number of players simply was not going to go down well with the whole squad of players. It never does.
I wonder if Bowyer taking training at Birmingham yesterday afternoon was some kind of final part of his interview. Would explain the lack of announcement.

I thought this was a wind up, Brum have not sacked Karanka yet have they?
“ I feel he will give us hope on the field and the players will understand what he wants from them by making it simple and not constantly changing the formation and tactics. He will be aware of what we Bluenoses expect”
LOL...... good luck with that...
I used to have a lot of respect for Blues fans, dry sense of humour and a genuine accent. However if they believe that . They will change formations more times than the Red Arrows and tactics more times than the RAF and Luftwaffe during the Battle of Britain.
Really? Birmingham have a higher % of wrongun’s than most clubs (Wolves do too, must be something in the water up there).

Announce Sir Christopher Powell , formerly of this Parish
Good God, no. I think now's the time for someone 'non-Charlton' to come in.
Yes, definitely non-Charlton!
Ahem....
Jose Riga Bob Peeters Guy Luzon Karel Fraeye Jose Riga Russell Slade Karl Robinson
They all worked out well!
I'm not against candidates with links to Charlton, or non-Charlton, but our recent better spells over the past 30 odd years have always been linked to someone Charlton related (Pardew the exception).
The next couple of months shall be an interesting ride.
I don't think Thomas has a list of managers that he has on the pay roll already.
If he hadn't been our manager before I think a lot of people would actually be suggesting Robinson now and saying "what could he do with a budget". What ever a budget is.
Plays "good football", a promotion from this divison plus a play off or 2, destroyed Man United in a cup tie.
No I am not suggesting him, just making an observation.
You have been wanting Bows out for months. So let's hear your replacement? Back tracking is a no no mate
I don’t think that very fair. Seeing Poor form, very odd team selections and tactics over months and calling for a change is perfectly reasonable and doesn’t require that observation naming a replacement.
It's fair for me to ask who is the choice of replacement then
It totally is, and the reason for that is not about picking an argument with an individual poster, (even if that poster you sparred with often puzzles me too), but to highlight some basic lessons which anyone in management recruitment selection knows damn well, namely:
Any idiot can fire somebody. And frequently, they do. That's the easy bit. The difficult bit- damn difficult - is replacing with somebody who actually turns out to be better.
Any idiot can also say, well, I will bring in this or that person, he's clearly much better. Some of the reasons why it isn't that simple:
- if he is that good, you are not the only potential employer who has noticed. And the others may have more wad than you. Or something else the employee likes more than what you've got. And the employee may not tell you, before he decides for the other lot. - there may have been reasons why the person succeeded in previous roles which relate to the people around him, or the overall culture at the previous employer, or the chemistry with the previous boss. This is very common in business, but the key factors can be hard to determine. (see e.g. Eddie Howe at Bournemouth vs at Burnley)
Fortunately Thomas Sandgaard, unlike most of the punters on here, will know all this from years of successful business experience. But that said, up until 2005, I believed that about Richard Murray too. I assumed he had a file in his cabinet marked "When Curbs goes". He didn't. For me that was a Charlton shock not far behind the very worst events like "Letter to our Supporters".
I'd rather Thomas handling this than maybe 90% of any club owners I can think of. But nobody should underestimate how difficult it will be to get this right.

A number of media outlets (no idea on reliability, but Football Insider was one that has been right in the past) reported he had been sacked on Sunday.

Yes, on Monday
Whilst it's abundantly obvious that he's going/gone, there is yet to be an official announcement from Birmingham City concerning Karanka's departure or Bowyer's appointment.

He's far too strong a character to be hounded out by internet warriors.
Bowyer leaving is Bowyer's decision.

Karren Brady made do there!
