  • Sounding like JJ will be given the reigns at least until end of season.
If that’s the case I presume any targets have failed to work out.
  • We need the structural changes and plans in place at the club I guess that’s what Roddy is there for.  The manager/head coach should be the final part of the puzzle.

It makes sense then that a caretaker manager until end of the season is the solution rather than jumping on what’s available in the market now.
  • Whoever we appoint, I think we can all agree that their name has to fit in the Allez Allez Allez chant.
NOw we’ve Chris wilder...that’s the only one that we works well.

    TS on what he wants:

    - Attacking football
    - A creative midfield
    - Develop players for us, not just for their careers
    - Use the academy, with a steady flow of talent coming through

This comment was interesting as it implies he was more impressed with the team we had BEFORE the January window

“As you know already we are a team who play attacking football and I’d like to get even more emphasis on a very creative midfield that can create chances – I think we had that in the fall,”
Yep Autumn/Fall was mid-September to mid-December, I think he was simply acknowledging we looked better in Autumn.

    Autumn/Fall Period:

    11 games to go.
It might also be about the STYLE of football as well, which since January hasn't been exactly easy on the eye. You can argue about their effectiveness, but the likes of Williams and Maddison are undoubtedly flair players, while Bowyer seems determined to turn Morgan into a battler, rather than allowing him more freedom

Martin at MK Dons is undoubtedly someone who wants his team to play creative, attacking football, maybe that's the sort of coach Thomas wants
  • Beale has a good reputation and has done a good job wherever he has coached.  People speak very highly of him and talk about his preparation before matches as well as engaging sessions.

You would have to wonder if we might be of interest to him or he may want to stay working with Gerrard who is highly likely to be on the move in the not too distant future - the question is does he want to be a number one?

Time will tell I guess but he is certainly someone who could fit the mould in that he is young, progressive and has excellent pedigree
  • the issue with Beale is that do good coaches become good managers?

having a view and advising the manager is completely different to making the call himself in a pressure situation.
  • If Beale was in advanced discussions with TS, I doubt he would have made the public comments that he did. My guess is that TS was locked into someone else.  Potentially his comments were away of showing TS his interest in the position.  Whether anything comes of that, who knows.

It's certainly done the trick if he wanted to stick his name in the hat!
  • I remember Lee Bowyer said in one of the recent post match interview that a lot was going on behind the scenes which he again repeated, made me wonder at the time if he was having issues with some of the senior management?  I would be happy with Nathan Jones but doubt he would leave Luton again or someone similar

I think unless he gets the gig full time that JJ will be departing at some point. Can’t see a new bright young thing coach wanting anyone coaching the players other than himself or a tried and trusted number two. Tough on JJ but he’s been around football long enough to know that’s how it works.

If off the back of a short term caretaker role here JJ manages to get himself a full time job lower down the leagues and get some experience, he may end up back here one day.

But I don't think right here right now is the best thing for Jackson or Charlton long term.

I think ‘the team’ will go with Bowyer. JJ, AM, SG, GB

Whoever comes in will want a clean slate

I make you right, and to be fair our poor form should not all be placed on Bowyer's shoulders, if JJ is/has been coaching the defence he needs to share some of the blame as at times we have been awful at the back.

Hmm I agree that whoever comes in will want a clean slate, not sure I agree on the first bit though.

I'm not sure if Gallen will go, that depends on his relationship with Roddy.

I see Jackson in the same kind of point of his career as Powell, after three years as assistant he needs to stretch those wings out. Or forever be an assistant.

I'm not keen on the Cowley's, but as others have said, I don't really know why 🤷‍♂️
Tell us what it is of theirs that you don't like and we might be able to work it out.

Hang on, the apostrophe is in the wrong place too. Please copy to the punctuation police.

Doesn't it depend on if we employ and manager or a coach?

My guess has always been that there will be a total reboot of the structure and personnel in the summer.  Who, of the current employees, will be involved and what their roles are I have no idea.

Ordinarily I'd mock the 'saw them on telly, make them manager' approach, but Henry as Charlton manager would be so preposterous, I'm all for it :D
It would be great for my boy who has always worn a Charlton shirt to football training. Also, I wouldn't have to keep explaining who Charlton are. Maybe I could even convert people away from Ligue 1 to League 1.
  • I'm actually quite surprised hardly anyone has mentioned the name that has literally just come onto the market - Aitor Karanka.

Not saying he would be my choice, but certainly a lot more realistic than the Wilder / Howe / Bilic waffle that keeps doing the rounds.

I can't be the only one who is amazed by the amount of Chris Wilder suggestions, as if it would be in any way remotely possible?
The thread title is 'want', not 'expect' or 'think is realistic' so we can ask for Wilder all day long.

    What about this bloke
Leon Clarke?  Yeah why not. Charlton links, only 6 months older than Ben Watson, knows this league (he is actually still playing in it).

Oh you ment the other bloke.  It would be interesting!
  • What about Nebojša Vignjević?
  • Strange that with TS so confident we will have someone in place this week that we are not hearing any leaks/rumours of someone.

    As does John Jackson.

Go on Birmingham’s Twitter feed and look at the interview he gave after they lost on Saturday.
You wouldn’t want him anywhere near our club .
