And that was symptomatic of the joke of a club we had become by that time - that isn’t a fact but is the case0

HONOURING CURBISHLEY A REMINDER TO BE CAREFUL WHAT YOU WISH FOR
Remember when Alan Curbishley had taken Charlton as far as he could? Now they want to name a stand after him.
On May 7, 2006, Curbishley managed his last game as Charlton boss — a 4-0 loss at Manchester United. He lost his last home game, too, against Blackburn. The records show he gave a speech and received a standing ovation, but the mood before his departure wasn't pleasant. He won a single game in his last eight. He was no longer wanted.
Curbishley finished seventh with Charlton in 2004, but local expectations rose unreasonably. He then got a little money to spend but couldn't improve on the previous campaign. Charlton finished 11th and 13th. By the end, change was being loudly demanded. Better football, less caution, a fresh approach.
The following season Charlton were relegated and it has been downhill pretty much since.
The club currently sit just outside the play-off places in League One which, by recent standards, is considered a reasonable campaign.
Now the East Stand at The Valley is to be named in Curbishley's honour. Maybe it should also contain a large sign bearing an old adage: be careful what you wish for.

Really irritated by this new era of journalists now having an opinion, they used to just report not argue a side, its not that their opinion dosnt matter but who cares what they personally belive and why is that a more informed judgement than fans of Charlton who know what he is writing is rubbish. He used to be on a programme called Sunday supplement where journos would talk about tactics and players etc, what do they know?1

Nothing new about Martin Samuel3

Journalism today is riven with toxic halfwits and vainglorious blowhards who give not one fig for truth, facts or integrity preferring notoriety and 'clicks'.
Samuel, along with the entire retinue on that vicious softporn comic of hypocrisy, is a worthless prick.
The printed tabloids and their evil half-breed online cousins are not alone in peddling risible crap
The announcement of the Alan Curbishley Stand deemed in at least one social media strand to be a "Victory" for the campaign.
Bit rich isn't it? Victory? Over what exactly?
The proposal was aired. Support was found. Views were exchanged. Opposition of any kind was minimal.
The proposal was adopted.
Victory? Who or what was defeated?
Someone had an idea, with which many people agreed. Well done.

indeed - the man was given a standing ovation after a defeat and clapped out of the ground - football goes in cycles though and ferguson and wenger leaving had to happen at some point as well but journalists who don't support a club and go to games week in, week out have the same perspective as the armchair fans - they look at league tables and forget that its actually the week in week out experience that matters to proper supporters - predictability set in at charlton as it did at arsenal - very few n thought we could achieve better with a different manager.1

Don't know which surpasses the other. His lack of knowledge of horse racing and patronising attitude to the best jockey currently riding in National Hunt or his regurgitated dross he seems to churn out whenever he condescends to mention Charlton. Whichever way Airman sums it up pretty succinctly.0

Lies from that bastard.
There was a small contingent of johnny come lately's who wanted him out, everyone else knew what was going to happen, and sure enough it did.
He is the greatest manager this club has ever seen and the fact that each week we are delighted to hear his stories on Charlton TV is a testament to that, zero bad blood from anyone.
Best let the world make up a lie and run with it - they have their narratives to push.6 -

Yet what if four Managers in that time dwarf the achievements of Curbishley and Seed etc.
Should they take their respective stand names, as the only advantage Curbs and Seed have is they came before them
our good times won’t dwarf them so won’t be a problem
if someone does the double over the scum then rename the ground after that unicorn manager .
seriously though , he is a top man
and Lennie is without doubt a Charlton god who consistently produced major miracles but he was only there a short time and left us for Middlesbrough where he made a low-ball bid for Robert Lee knowing how desperate we were to raise cash for our return to The Valley and that rankles with me .0 -
The Curbs era was a mix of complementary forward moving actions coming together at the right time..back to the valley, bigger crowds than we had at Upton Park, increasing capacity and more income, money to bring players in, promotion to the PL, more money to spend, bouncing back straight away as champions, increasing capacity, more money to spend, little charlton not so little anymore, punching above our weight, plans to increase capacity again to 40k...which then got shelved and we slide. Curbs was the right man but he’d probably taken us about as far as he could without getting more money to spend...cue Dowie coming in and being given the sort of money Curbs could have pushed us upwards a little more with...1

Is Curbs a secret Marxist? He keeps mentioning Momentum. 😂 ⚽️ 😀0

They need to paint the red or you can see the outline of the old letters.4

I know it probably can't happen due to the housing behind, but it would be great to see the stand enlarged. Still one tier but extra rows added, to make it look more vast as the terrace was.1

In fact the caption under the photo even says the stand will be unveiled in August, so that makes it even more clear that it's an early photo of a work in progress that potentially still has 2 months of work to be completed.
Why do people go out of their way to have digs at the club over the tiniest things?6 -

I’m pretty certain they won’t leave it like that
sorry to have offended you, I should make it clearer next time
we have our greatest ever owner and are currently in our wankiest footballing period in our history imo0 -
You imagine they're doing the stuff on the roof now as it doesn't matter if the crane thing damages the pitch3
