Great performance, we look a real team now. But, I bemoaned our luck when things were going against us and others were saying we got the results we deserved because we were shit, so in the interests of consistency, I have to say we had a fair bit of luck last night. The first half when DJ passed that ball to one of their attackers on the edge of our area... two months ago, he curls that one into the top corner, last night he fluffed it. Look up "good fortune" in the dictionary and there's a video of our third, from the save at one end to the backheel trickling over the line. We were playing games where the opposition had two shots and scored two goals (though we were having just the one shot, I appreciate that). Last night six out of seven went in.
Don't get me wrong, the finishing was clinical, the defending for the first fifteen heroic, and the work rate phenomenal, I had a great night, and I am as optimistic about the next few games as it is possible for a Charlton fan of long standing to be. Maybe it's true what they say about luck evening itself out?
2 lefties at CB is not the way forward. If pressed harder am sure Plymouth could have got some lucky breaks from loose passing. They just wanted to play a 'nice and easy on the eye game'.
What a fantastic result and performance. Everyone was up for this, long may it continue. I don't think Plymouth were as quite as bad as 6-0 suggests so that's all the more credit to us. True, their defending was poor. In particular, the positioning for Gilbey's goal was atrocious. In possession and going forward I thought they looked pretty decent, so top marks to our defence for snuffing them out. That save at 2-0 was crucial. If that went in their tails would have been up and it could have been a different story. Instead of that, a minute later we get another one and they're left not only with a huge 3-0 scoreline to reverse but all those nagging doubts about 'it's not our day' - and how right they would have been! Up front, Stockley was immense and Millar and Jaiyesimi look better with every game. In the middle Gilbey made some brilliant runs, Watson had probably his best game for us whilst JFC ran the show. Top stuff.
Couldnt sleep, buzzing over that, how many teams have 56% of the play and lose 6-0. Superb defending was the platform, and hitting them on the break was done to perfection. So pleased for two of the lads,Watson and Pearce have had some stick, but are on this showing essential parts of this squad.Roll on saturday,at last feels good to be a Charlton fan.
One thing I haven’t seen mentioned much is how impressive our pressing was. Adkins talked about pressing high and you can see it’s something they’ve worked on. I’d expect it to get even better as next season progresses with a full summer to bring in the right type of players and pre-season to work on it.
I also liked Watson in that role at the base of the midfield, there’s a clear improvement in our passing and the way we maintain possession compared to when Pratley plays there. He looks a better player with more pace and energy around him - some of Bowyer’s line ups didn’t always have that, while the constant formation changes and rotation meant players roles were never the same. You can’t develop your style of play if you keep making so many changes, especially at this level.
A lot of things to do/ponder last night and didn’t enjoy Saturday performance much so took a very last minute decision (1943) to buy the stream. Was quite heavily medicated so dozed a bit and must have been hallucinating cos at one point I could swear it said on screen that we were winning 6-0. Enjoyed what I saw though! Dodgy start but Plymouth were no mugs and whilst we rode our luck we were clinical and saw terrific performances across the pitch. Millar MOM for me. Hopeless Saturday but back to the form that excites us so much in his early games. Onwards and upwards.
Towards the end of Bowyer's reign I always felt we were a disaster waiting to happen when we played along the back - as proved by some of the silly goals we conceded. Under Adkins, I feel far more confident when we play along the back. You can see we are building towards an end product. What a difference Adkins has made. The team are definitely playing for him. Now for the play-offs.
Good to see we didn’t hit the post and crossbar 4 times in the game and had some luck with a deflection. I really like the look of this side, now seems perfectly balanced and the players are much more composed rather than running their legs off chasing lost causes as we did before Adkins. The Adkins diet is working a treat and I’m loving it!

I said on the match thread I don't think I have ever seen Charlton press like that, not for 90 minutes.
JFC and Watson OR Pratley plus one has been our best midfield option for most of the season. The big problem is when there is no JFC.
I am finding it hard to keep zipped about the strange season we've had prior to NA. I find myself wanting to make comparisons in team selection, motivation levels, training ground injuries, post match interview quality, but it will be an unhealthy way to constantly think after a game.
I'm already looking forward to next season. At the worst, we might see TS at the Rose in Denmark when he's over for the play off final.
Never saw that coming and was sooooo close to not watching it cos had shit to do Ive seen every league game since the loss to Lincoln at the beginning of the season gutted I won’t see Saturdays cos I’m donning my cricket whites and playing my first match of the season with my eldest son but will be glued to phone for the score when possible . crazy match where we certainly had the run of the green but you earn it and we did . Purrington is much better than he was in the play off season and DJ , Millar and Gilbey turned it on but I still think there’s more from them (I’m greedy ) I think we can play better . Im too scared to get excited but if I was normal I would be !
Once again don’t fancy us Saturday , long may my shitness be rebuffed by the well oiled machine that is Charlton.
Both JFC and Gilbey are able to press, win the ball, and more importantly not lose out goal side. This has meant Watson's not always playing on top of our box, and you can see his quality more often than not taking the ball on the half turn. Much better blend but against the better more physical teams Pratley should play.
I still think Albie's got a massive part to play, in that positionally he's much sharper than Millar or Jaiyesimi and he's the only one who looks to put in a cross first time which is crucial for Stockley against good teams. Jaieysimi was very good last night but never seems to put in a first time cross.

Morgan is not a winger. If we're going to play 433 we can't afford to have someone like him playing wide. I'm generally a fan but I do feel people are very generous towards him because he's from the academy. He shouldn't be starting in this team. In fact, I wouldn't even have him on the bench.

Some real good individual skill for the goals but a lot of the goals came about from everybody on the pitch working hard for their teammates.
Proper team, proper club again.

But that own goal gets worse the more times you watch it... what was he trying to do??!! 🤣🤣
United,City, Liverpool, Spurs, Chelsea and Arsenal,
We will never forget your greed. Oh sorry on the wrong thread.
6-0 great result cafc at the business end of the season where form and fitness is paramount entering the final straight.
