Really disappointed to have missed out on Olgilvie.  He was just what we needed long term as moving forward we saw two years ago that Purrington isn't good enough for the championship. We showed with Stockley that we can compete with Pompey re wages.

Since Wiggins we have lacked good overlapping pacy full backs. Becoming a really important position in the game these days, often the most athletic players fill these positions.
Agree with your second paragraph 100% and have been saying it for a while. Is Ogilvie that man though? I hear he wants to play CB which doesn’t scream overlapping fullback to me.

Maybe we have another target, who said we were in for him...

the last good attacking full back we had was Jay da Silva. Must admit i was slightly disappointed signing Matthews again, thought we may have had better lined up.

This.  Ogilvie seems to have taken mythical status on here and the socials.  I can see why people wanted us to sign him but if he was as good as some make out he wouldn't have signed for Pompey.
  • In fairness, SG’s quite open and chatty if you meet him. Really nice guy.

Same but then looking at the fact we haven't replaced key players, my stance on the resigning altered.

He defends very well and gets in good crosses when he goes forward. Nobody else was crossing the ball at Fulham.

Even if Gallen did say something, he would have used a lot of

    "we're hoping to"
"if everything goes the way we want"
    "we're working on"
    "possibly"

    Etc etc

    Have to disagree.

Dijksteel was a quality attacking full back IMO, and I think you’ll do well to name more than 3 better right backs then Matthews in league one.

I think we have genuinely forgotten what really good full-backs look like, to the point where competent ones get big love.

Would love to believe the Gallen rumour but would he really tell a random our transfer plans for the week...
I expect he might insinuate his types of players we're talking to. I doubt he name dropped them.

He has form of giving a little, without telling all.

I kind of get what you mean here Redhenry. I personally really like him and think he is "championship ready" but I see your point on the type of FB you think we need.
Couldn't agree more on Jay De Silva he was a cracking little player. Before that, I was a huge fan of Nathan Byrne as well.

I remember when people used to say Young wasn't good enough and we needed better etc etc

Doesn't get enough love at all

Yes the final squad won’t be in place until Sept.

But you do all realise there are 5 games before then? I would rather not throw 5 games - and whilst we could feasibly bring in the 5-6 top league one players we need on 31st August, I wouldn’t be that confident that we will then go on such a tear up of the division that we can give the rest of the league a 5 game head start.
I love the idea that we're just sitting ducks for our first 5 games unless we some players now now now. We started last season with a backline made up of a centre mid, a 17 year old CB at RB and Oshilaja, with zero other defenders on the bench and more court appearances than senior left backs and we still only lost 2 of our first 5 games. The idea that we're throwing the first 5 games with a starting 11 including a new goalkeeper, two new midfielders, a new CB and a marquee signing up front is such bed wetting overkill I think you've gone through and wet a child's bed in Australia

I know Dijksteel very well, his physical attributes were good, not really an attacking full back though. Matthews average.

agreed - matthews is decent but is not a major threat going forwards or a major obstacle defensively

Chris Solly in his early years was top class
  • Think the left back position has been put on back burner because of budget. Purrington is more than competent at League one and we have Gunter who is a seasoned international having played at left back when required for his country. Not a long term fix with either of those two but if there are budget restrictions and money needs to be spent elsewhere then I can understand it.

Apparently you can see ‘Ham’ on the lanyard so we can definitely deduce that we’re groundsharing with West Ham because Thomas is selling the Valley to pay for the recording sessions for Addicks To Victory.

He's kinda like a "nice" full back. Anyway, who are these 2 attacking players?!

I get the joke, it even raised a slight smile.
However Sandgaard isn't able to sell the ground due to not owning it.

When has a fact like that ever stopped some crazily huge conclusion jumping fllowed by putting it up as a valid supposition  🤪
