Tbh I have lost track but Henderson signing has surprised me a bit. Surely we must be over the squad limit now ?
    Goalies don't count.
Think we are still one over even with goalies excluded. I expect JFC not to be included and we can then re-evaluate in January.

You can call Dobson a Pratley replacement, but the same could be said of Clare, as Pratley wasn't just a holding midfielder, he could do box to box as well

I wouldn't call Clare the Shinnie replacement, if anything his role as the creative passer and dead ball taker has been taken by Morgan.

Clare if anything is an alternative to Gilbey who was our box to box midfielder last season
It's their places in the squad, Clare has already played more than Shinnie did, under Adkins, there was no role for Shinnie.
It was Gilbey who displaced Shinnie last season.
  • The Grapevine post basically says

    - We had different targets over the summer. Some signed, some didn't
    - Some are younger so longer-term thinking
    - Some are shorter-term as we need to cover injuries and push up the league

That could have summed it up pretty much. But it's less easy to drop in references to "business operational need," "corporate strategy" and his "career of building businesses" if it's not dressed up in the big essay ; )
Precisely - some lap up all that corporate guff, others see through it
  • It’s war.

    See through what exactly?

  • To be fair to Mr. Ronnie, the game was 0-0 before Dobson went off.

I think that overall Statbank mark for Dobson is a bit harsh and he has already become something of a scapegoat.

As soon as he was subbed and we went 4-4-2, Wigan ripped through us twice.
And we could have been 4-0 down by then as well.

Probably not best to use the quote function on those, apologies!
The edit function is your friend.
Excellent post as ever from Grapevine. Anyone who’s just waking up from a coma and who wishes to replicate the experience could save an enormous amount of time by reading it and ignoring everything else. 👍

Or is that technically 5 words, if ‘s is taken to be shorthand for has?
Interesting. Probably worth it’s own thread.
    :-)
  • Or a PowerPoint presentation.
  • Would like to see a better target man back up to Stockley but must be of comparable quality - not convinced the free agent striker market would give us that quality required. Suspect we will continue with Davison as back up, see where we stand after Xmas and put some icing on the cake if we feel we can challenge for automatic promotion.

Its ok - if Stockey gets injured we can always play like Man City with no No9 , and a revolving front line , we now have quite a few options in the squad.
  • Never had Stu down for a teller of porkies, but granted I can see the influence on Revie  ;)
  •  In his time Leary was the best deep lying CF in the Country. He is also amongst the Addicks highest scorers. Those who regularly saw Leary play were very privileged.
Was Leary the innovator of the deep lyer is open to question. Think Ivor Broadis of Man C might have been the first. Broadis like Leary had wonderful touch and vision

A deep lieing CF as invented by Don Revie after he saw Stuart Leary play this way first !
    Edit function?.. B)
  • Found this thread on page 2! Can't be allowed to happen.
